Because Jesus was born a man. He was tempted to not do what he came here to do. Before the Crucifixion, Jesus begged God to take this cup from him. His human heritage was shining through.
He truly understood what it was to be human. So that he wouldn't use his power to save himself from suffering and death, the angels were sent to give him strength to follow his path.
He gave over his decision to God and God did not answer his prayer by granting his wish (that the cup be taken from him) but by strengthening him so he could bear it.
I am glad you asked this question, because these portions of the Bible show people who ask why God did not answer their prayer, that God does answer, but maybe not with what you asked for.
I have heard all my life that God never gives you more in life than you can bear.
In order for Him to do that, he has to give us the strength to bear whatever comes along
Tonite I was wondering why Christ needed the angels to*strengthen*him. Looked and found this answer, seems pretty logical.
The behind the scenes of this, is how he prayed, he might of asked the Father, to help him give him*strength, to go through this, the above answer is pretty good. Any body could carry a cross, get nailed on it, and die. This wasn't it, it was the battle, the spiritual warfare of evil, trying to stop him, very much human as we are. Tempted of staying with his family, and maybe living as a man, maybe someone was on his heart, he fell in love with. This is the challenge, of every thing in life going against the human flesh, emotions, and the heart, and mind. Though he was given power, to speak to the winds and waves, heal the blind, etc. He was human, in a fleshly body.*
Could it be sometimes we think were so undeserving or unworthy to know that he knows how we feel, it said, he is not a high priest that is not touched by our needs, being tempted in all manner as a man.
Tonight*I am really, really hurting, in my spirit feeling as I was so drawn into the current, and out of his peace, and as the Lord Jesus prayed for strength to go through his father's will, we need to ask God for*strength, he said he wouldn't put upon us more than we could bear, but also give us the*strength*to go through, for his Grace is sufficient. It is all we need, it is what we need.
This is what he has done.
