The seventh day Sabbath was given to God's children as part of His creation.

First it was given to Adam and Eve.

Then it was given to God's chosen people and to all who want to join God's people in worshiping God.

Isaiah 56:1-8 This is what the Lord says: "Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you and to display my righteousness among you. Blessed are all those who are careful to do this. Blessed are those who honor my Sabbath day of rest and keep themselves from doing wrong. "Don't let Gentiles who commit themselves to the Lord say, "The Lord will never let me be part of his people." And don't let the eunuchs say, "I'm a dried-up tree with no children and no future." For this is what the Lord says: I will bless those eunuchs who keep my Sabbath day holy and who choose to do what pleases me and commit their lives to me. I will give them within the walls of my house a memorial and a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. For the name I give them is an everlasting one. It will never disappear! "I will also bless the Gentile who commit themselves to the Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my covenant. I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. For the Sovereign Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel."

That's all you have, God's chosen people or not God's chosen people. If you want to be part of God you have to join up with God's chosen people and worship God as He taught them.

Ephesians 2:11-13 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

God first gave the sabbath as a duty to man in the book of Exodus. It is true that the sabbath originated at the completion of the creation (Genesis 2:1-3), but that was God's rest, not man's. There is no record in Genesis that God gave the sabbath to man, and there is no record of men keeping the sabbath before Israel in the wilderness. Nehemiah 9:13-14 plainly states that the sabbath was first given to Israel.

Nehemiah 9:13 Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
Nehemiah 9:14 And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:

The sabbath was a special sign between God and Israel. The sabbath belongs to the nation Israel and not to any other people.

Exodus 31:12 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
Exodus 31:14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Exodus 31:15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
Exodus 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Scuba, are you a Seventh Day Adventist who teaches that men kept the sabbath from the days of Adam onward? This is not a biblical teaching. In fact, this teaching is contrary to the Bible. The New Testament believer is not bound to keep the sabbath (Colossians 2:9-17).

How can you determine, as Linda, that God gave the Sabbath as a duty. I go by scripture, not Linda. It was a blessing says scripture. It was for our sakes says Christ. He blessed it for us says the Father the day He created it. Where do you get this "duty"?

Whatever gave you the idea that when scripture tells you not to judge us because we like Saturday best, it is saying that to keep the Sabbath is against scripture? There is absolutely no instruction there to say "don't keep the Sabbath". You can find instruction to keep it, but there is no instruction to be sure not to keep it.

Genesis 2:1-3

2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them (Notice that ALLTHE HOST OF HEAVEN AND EARTH WERE FINISHED).

[SUP]2 [/SUP]And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made (Notice that He rested on it, NOT THAT IT ENDED).

[SUP]3 [/SUP]And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

This day is holy, and set apart. So anything on that day that is made is also holy and set apart.

If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. We were known by God and sanctified on this day for various reasons as in the case of Jeremiah and John, or in the case of Pharaoh and Judas. A vessel of honor, and a vessel of dishonor for the purposes of tilling the land as God attended. In other words, to come to a complete understanding of what good and evil is in order to choose good.

We are all children of the Sabbath, Christ being Lord.

We are not all the children of the Sabbath.

Your last statement about "the first fruit is holy, so is the lump" comes from Romans 11:16 and is speaking of Israel, not all mankind. Your "mix and match" verses aren't even relevant to the topic.

You can keep it if you like, but Paul is very clear not to try and make others keep it.
He says he wishes those who say such things would cut off their private parts. Pretty strong words don't you think?

If all of Israel will be saved, then true Israel is all of mankind.

Now the Sabbath in Genesis is a HIGH Sabbath. An age we were all born into for the purposes of salvation. God knew we would blow it, so He set it up this way to be blameless from the start.

The Sabbath according to the commandment is given for man to rest from the nonsense you see before you. Christian, Muslim, Buddhists, our country, their countries, black, white, rich, poor, male and female is ran today by the almighty dollar. 6000 years we were given to do whatever work under the sun. This will end with the fall of money. Then all things will be bare.

If Jesus said to do it, then do it but I don't see Him saying that. You need to come out of the Old Covenant and start following Jesus. Did Jesus say the Sabbath was done away with? No. Did He say it was lawful to do good on THE Sabbath? Yes. The word (THE) is referring to a literal day called the Sabbath, and it's not Sunday. So you may trim the edge of your beard but you won't be following Jesus but if you honor the Sabbath, you will be.

Don't get nervous, the Sabbath is not for you. It's for God's chosen people and all who join God's people to worship Him as He taught them. You know Israel was given the oracles of God (Romans 3:1-3) and we are to teach each other according to them (Hebrews 5:12).

1 Peter 4:11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The titles Gentile, stranger, alien, foreigner and immigrant are all used in the Bible to identify someone who is not part of God's people. This is why God says at the end of Isaiah 56:1-8.

"My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."

"I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel."

So again, either you fit this verse or you don't.

Are you a Gentile, stranger, immigrant, foreigner or alien who wants to join God's people to worship as they were taught? You can, through Jesus Christ.

EXACTLY. It is called after the shadow the HIGH Sabbath. Did you also notice that before then man was made, but in the chapter it was the LORD God that FORMED the body for the breath of life?

Remember in the law all male children is to be circumcised on the eighth day. At some point in time this Sabbath age of God that we have thoroughly profaned will come to an end and all mankind will have to put off flesh and blood.

But in following the commandment after the pattern, we were given a Sabbath to enjoy here on earth as He did. Not is a repeating Saturday, but an age where men don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from or a bill to pay.

And please remember that Israel is LOST for a reason. They are blind to who they are.

The seventh day Sabbath is never called the high Sabbath. The high Sabbath was the Sabbath the started the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It was called a high Sabbath because it only came once a year. Remember, there were two Sabbaths during the week of Jesus' crucifixion. The high Sabbath and the seventh day Sabbath, which they kept according to the commandment.

Actually there is...

Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

And the word for Laws here is...

H8451
תּרה תּורה
tôrâh tôrâh
to-raw', to-raw'
From H3384; a precept or statute, especially the Decalogue or Pentateuch: - law.

And Isaiah says this...

Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

Stranger:

H5236
נכר
nêkâr
nay-kawr'
From H5234; foreign, or (concretely) a foreigner, or (abstractly) heathendom: - alien, strange (+ -er).

The Gentiles but not only the Gentiles...

Isa 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

everyone will worship God on the Sabbath.

Let's notice here about the absolute consistency of God...

Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

The New Covenant is made with Israel and Judah. What is that Covenant?

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Now that is a direct quote from Jer 31:33...

Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

And the word for Law here is...

H8451
תּרה תּורה
tôrâh tôrâh
to-raw', to-raw'
From H3384; a precept or statute, especially the Decalogue or Pentateuch: - law.

You see, God planned everything out before He ever made anything. He is not constantly "painting Himself into a corner" and having to change something because He did not foresee the outcome...

Rev 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

He planned everything before the first atom of the universe was created. He doesn't constantly have to keep adjusting His plan due to external forces.

Why don't you put you money where your mouth is and show us the scriptures that say that men from Adam to Mt. Sinai did not keep the Sabbath? And you can start right here...

Exo 16:25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
Exo 16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
Exo 16:27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
Exo 16:28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

Walt Disney made up a lot of great stories too. Maybe Flammingspirit is referring to the Magic Kingdom and not God's Kingdom.

No but if you show me a verse that says "and thus the evening and the morning were the seventh day" like the first six said, I'll change it.

OK...

Lev 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

This close enough? From evening to evening? Sunset to sunset? Night portion and then day portion? Evening and morning?

John832, tell us what the charge was that Abraham was to keep, what were the commandments, the statutes and the laws given by God to him? Surely you will be able to find something about the Sabbath in all that God had verbalized to Abraham, for God is not a minister of sin and would surely never allow Abraham to sin by keeping him ignorantly in the dark about keeping the Sabbath holy. We will all be waiting for you to find this commandment or law given to Abraham concerning the Sabbath or at least something about what God did on the seventh day that Abraham was to remember or observe.

OK, not a problem Since the Word Torah is used for Law here, what Commandments are contained in the Torah? Why, they are listed throughout the Pentateuch.

As far as the Sabbath goes, lemme see here, why that is the fourth Commandment in the Torah contained in the Pentateuch.

Now how's about posting a scripture that says the Sabbath was changed to Sunday or the Sabbath was done away?
