1 John 2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Christ Is Our Advocate
2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; [SUP]2 [/SUP]and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
Would you add "if you repent" to the end of verse 1?
"IF" is already in verse 1 and verse 3, which says "And hereby we do know that we know him, "IF" we keep his commandments". The context in 1 Jn 1:7,9 that lead up to 1 Jn 2 contains "IF'----"IF" we walk in the light Christ blood cleanses away all sin, "IF" we confess our sins Christ will forgive.
Jesus commanded repentance, eternal security says repentance is not necessary for eternal security has done away with sin.
