I've been studying the Book of Janes recently and I was wondering if anybody could recommend some good bible studies, commentaries, etc, on it. I've got a few study Bibles but I was wondering if there was anything that went deeper. Thanks.

You would listen to MENS COMMENTS on WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS?

men who went to seminaries and learned how to twist the bible to whattver doctrine they want?

we are to read the word of God and pray and leave the commentaries to the ones who have no faith in the word of God

you're welcome! both of those were a great help to me too.

i don't always agree with everything Mcgee has to say, but i love his simple, straightforward style and how he teaches the bible, the whole bible, not topics, theology, or one or two verses from here and there. just the bible, the whole thing. i've probably heard his whole 5-year teaching on the radio at least twice over my life, and listened to it all via mp3 twice more - what i linked to, he did for every book in the Bible, and it's all free from the same website.
 
Douglas Moo has a good commentary called "The Letter of James" in the Pillar New Testament Commentary.
He discusses the various versions and translations, gets into genre, purpose, structure and theology. The book is at once accessible and scholarly.

The NIV Application Commentary on James by David P. Nystrom is useful because it deals with cultural issues, and how to bridge the gap to contemporary times. And many of these NIV Application books are very critical of the NIV, so don't worry about bias.

The Epistle of James in the New International Greek Testament Commentary by Peter H. Davids gets deeply into the exegetics of the Greek. Be prepared to know the Greek letters and have at least some rudimentary understanding of Koine Greek.

Zodhiates was a Greek scholar who did a lot of writing. Spiros Zodhiates did a very detailed study on James. You can read a short wiki entry on him here.

Faith, Love and Hope : The Book of James, by Spiros Zodhiates. ISBN: 9780899575582. I can't find the book for under $50. Maybe wish list it on Amazon or Half.com or Ebay and patiently wait for a good price.

Actually, many think Luther was against James because of all the law statements. That's not true, Luther spoke kindly in many places of the Law; rather it was because he found very little Gospel (forgiveness on account of Christ) in it.

I would recommend John Phillips on James, I've read some of his commentaries and are very readable, and accurate.
