The bible tells us not to forsake the assembling together with believers. It also tells us not to have fellowship with unrighteousness. So where do you draw the line?
I draw the line at doctrine. My understanding is that false doctrine is what puts you in danger of hell fire and that is what I want to avoid. We can argue and discuss a lot of bible, but the word of God is clear on what we have to know to go to heaven.
There are literally thousands of sects/religions in this world. A question I ask is "how many of them can possibly be right"? Obviously, only one, if that many. The bible has only one way. Christ exhorted us to be like Him, think like Him, and act like Him. I always ask God to keep me focused on His word and bring any erroroneus thinking I might do to my attention.
I got saved before my dad passed and we talked about this very thing. I told dad, "I hope I don't hurt your feelings, but I am not going to take anyones word for it. I am going to check everything I hear against the bible."
If Paul didn't have a problem with being checked up on, neither should anyone. And I got crossways with dad more than once. Not only did he teach me things about the bible, thru prayer and study I was able to show him some things.
I disagree with many of you here. Do you stop to think that that isn't how christians are to be? Do you simply point the finger at me, and shrug it off? How many times do you, when you believe differently than another, get on your knees and ask God to clarify the difference? I do. One thing I stand in fear of more than dying, more than anything man can do, is saying God said something He didn't. He is all. If we are wrong about Him, we are in deep.
Is it possible to study His word so much that He will disapprove? When you discuss the word and someone shows you to be in error, are you ashamed? You should be. If you are 100% on what you are talking about you shouldn't be talking, you should be listening.
2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Earth is temporary. Eternity is what our complete focus should be on. The word of God is the means we have to obtain eternal life. Study harder, God won't mind. You can't get too much of His word. Paul has shown us the mystery of Christ. There is no need to pretend it is difficult, or that you have to have someone's book to understand it. It is there in plain sight. Ask a brother, not a religious entrepreneur or businessman.
I don't go to church. I don't know of one church, not only in driving distance, but anywhere, that teaches, preaches, and believes the whole bible. As much as I crave fellowship and being with like-minded people, there doesn't appear to be any around. So I am unable to do as Paul asked. That is sad, but the world is not getting closer to God, and it will only get worse.
I know one thing: That is better than fellowshiping with unrighteousness. So tell me, do you fellowship with unrighteousness?

1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
