Matthew 11:29-30 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

We have been free from yokes and burdens. Haven't we?

Are we not to rest and abstain from work seven days a week now?

We must read the verses carefully and not add or tweak what God has said.

The teachings of Jesus is a yoke and a burden but they are easy and light.

Now carry this over to the forth commandment. The teachings of Jesus did not do away with the seventh day Sabbath nor did they change it to another day. The teachings of Jesus makes the Sabbath easy and light to honor not legalistic and ritualistic, which is where the hard yoke and heavy burden is.

Luke 13:14-17 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.” The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

The heavy burden and hard yoke of Sabbath keeping is found in the legalism and ritualism. Jesus removed all that and made the Sabbath easy and light. Make Sabbath fellowship enjoyable. Now go and treat the Sabbath as a holy day unto the LORD.

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he told them, “Go, eat rich foods, drink sweet drinks, and send portions to those who cannot provide for themselves. Today is a holy day for the Lord. Don’t be sad because the joy you have in the Lord is your strength.”

Thanks...Truth is truth so when when someone strays from it there are many ways back to it because truth has a strong foundation with many stones.

Completely missed what Jesus was teaching. Jesus is not referring to the Sabbath. Jesus is speaking directly to the yoke and harsh burden of sin. Men are yoked together with sin and labor and toil under it's unrelenting burden. Salvation in Christ removes the yoke of sin and the burden of sin. We are now yoked together with Christ. We now find His righteousness to be a light burden and a joy as we sojourn here on this world. Jesus is our Sabbath our rest from the wages of sin.

Is expressing our worship of God, through obeying His commandments, considered bondage and condemnation?

Worship is an act of obeying God, which should be 7/24/365. But you must understand that honoring the seventh day because God blessed it, sanctified it and called it holy is, in itself, an act of worship just like honoring the Lord's supper, water baptism, not committing adultery and so on. Our obedience to the commandments of God is our expression of worship that has value to God.

Isaiah 29:13 The Lord said, “These people show respect to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. Their worship of Me is worth nothing. They teach rules that men have made.

Mark 7:6-7 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

Do these verses bring conviction or condemnation?

If you're not in Christ they should bring condemnation but if you are in Christ they should bring conviction.

Of course, everyone is free to worship God or not.
Clever.
So by not being under the Sabbath law, I am not worshipping God?
Where is that found in the NewTestament?

So you worship God by keeping the law? Isn't that what Israel claimed to do? Jesus said that God is Spirit and that we must worship Him in Spirit and truth.

If you are going to worship God through the commandments start with the first one Jesus gave. Love the Lord thy God with all the strength and might.

All men are in bondage to sin as scripture tells us that all men are sinners. In Christ we exchange the harsh taskmaster of sin for the joy of a righteous Master in Christ. Man is never without a master over him. Liberty in Christ is not freedom to be lascivious.

Well I guess if you don't consider Jesus' teachings on Sabbath observance part of the New Testament then I guess it's not there.

Did you know that the seventh day is part of creation itself and that it was blessed, sanctified and called holy by God long before a Law was enacted to protect its holiness? That means the Law didn't make it holy. Did you know that Jesus said He was Lord of the seventh day Sabbath which makes it the Lord's day? Did you know that Jesus taught many, many times on how to honor the seventh day Sabbath and not once did He ever talk about the first day? Did you know that Jesus, Paul and the early church honored the seventh day Sabbath? Did you know that at one point almost the whole city came out on Sabbath to hear the word of God? Did you know that obeying the commandments of God is, itself, an act of worship? Did you know that Jesus confirmed the Sabbath would still be called the Sabbath forty years after His resurrection?

Now, show me how where Jesus taught the first day is now the Lord's day?

Worship God in Spirit AND IN TRUTH. Not just in Spirit.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

1 Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.

God's Law is true, always was, always will be...

It's refreshing to see someone understands Matthew 11:29-30 is not about Sabbath.
However, I don't think it's about the yoke and harsh burden of sin but rather the yoke and harsh burden of misapplication of the law taught by the Pharisees and the scribes and supported by the priests at that point in time.
Because
a. He said the law is not burdensome cf Deuteronomy 30:11-20.
b. He promised forgiveness of their sins cf Isaiah 43 and on.

First from Sabbath to Sunday. That's alright, some says, as long as one keeps one day in seven. Then Sunday is reduced to service for a couple of hours. That's alright, some says, as He looks at the heart.
Then in Christ it's free to do whatever one pleases.

1st century to 3rd century fast forward to 16th century and 18th century then everything goes in 21th century.

Spurgeon, Watson, Moody, Edwards, Pink and the like were all false teachers who promoted the Christian Sabbath.

I must say worship is a life style, not something to do on a specific day or for a couple of hours.

Jesus explained the law to the Jews as He came only to the lost sheep of Israel.
Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles sent by Jesus and NOT ONCE did Paul command or even urge the Gentiles to keep the Sabbath. If anything Paul taught...

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

I'm glad Paul clarified that whatever he wrote in the letter to the Christians in Rome were not to nullify but to uphold the law.

He said to Moses: "This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you[SUP] [/SUP]will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites." And He was referring to what He's going to say in Exodus 20.
And the Word spoken was the One who came in the flesh.
And at the beginning of His ministry He said He came not to abolish the law.
And Peter said believers belongs to the kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

What I'm saying is one does not worship God by keeping the law.
However, keeping the law of the kingdom is a life style just as an American would keep the law of the United States of America - and hopefully one would not equate keeping it with worshipping.

You truly do not understand the sabbath. Look at this verse you quoted in Nehemiah. How does this apply to Saturdays????

We do indeed refuse the rest of The Lord, whether by choice or by force. We must stop simply quoting scriptures without applying it to our lives.

Look around you. We have enough for all to be satisfied in this day and age, but we CHOOSE to be placed under heavy burdens.
Please don't tell me we don't when we believe we need money to survive!

We can talk about law all day, but show me ONE law of God that says we have to use money. Just one. If not Gods law then who's is it? Mans law, and if you accept it, you are BOUND by the terms and conditions, taxes fines and imprisonment that comes along with it.

Now you preach the sabbath, but do you REMEMBER IT? This is the day and age the Nehemiah speaks of! Not in going to church every Saturday but when we finally realize that we can live like this freely, and in peace. Today you have the power that was given in Christ to defeat the rich and mighty, not with carnal weapons but with the Spirit of God and truth!

Even Einstein knew that you cannot fix a problem using the same thinking that got you to that problem to begin with. In other words, we can never end world hunger with money when money is the reason they starve!

Please wake up. Today is the day of salvation!
