There was an article saying that the desktop computer seems to be going the way of vinyl records and corded phones (they're becoming extinct) because of the speed, capacity and portability now available in laptops/notebooks and tablets. They say that sales of desktops has dropped nearly 50% in the past 10 years and is continuing a down while sales of laptops and tablets has quadrupled.

I'd like to know who else here (besides me) still uses a desktop, and whether you prefer a desktop or a laptop/notebook computer?

I own a desktop and a kindle. I use the kindle more than the desktop but still use the desktop for paying bills and sending pics to people.

I have an HP desktop. It's great for when I'm on the computer for several hours a day, which is pretty much EVERY DAY!! LOL! :) But I would like to get a laptop as well also. It takes up less room and I can move it wherever I want it. I can only move my desktop as far as the phone cord goes, which is'nt very far at all. :(

When laptops match desktop performance and have long lasting batteries I would ditch my desktop. So in other words I'll be keeping my desktop for a long time.

my laptop is what i regularly use. it's lasted a pretty long time and is not very new and is now held together by scotch tape. it's a refurbished mac (10.5.8) that i 'fixed' when the spacebar got stuck... this happened recently, years after i first started using it. i unscrewed what screws hadn't lost all their thread and pried it open where they had and shook the loose pieces out. it still works pretty well but i'll switch to a new refurbished one soon.

the one i'm switching to is another mac laptop that my mom originally bought for herself. she got a desktop mac with a nice big screen recently, because she is planning on doing a couple of projects and thought the screen would be better.

it's also used and works perfectly well and is in great condition. i found it very helpful for an online class i recently took. it made things a lot easier for me. i'm glad we have it.

i like macs and think the desktop is really helpful for school and other important projects.

I have a desktop and use other peoples laptops... We have 3 laptops in this house so I can scurry one occasionally. Buying a laptop is not priority for me now. I would say 99% of the time when you see me on here it's from my iPod.

I choose Alien technology, cause, I am an Alien from Jupiter. Tintin, Arlene, and I are here to wipe out your technology. Mwahahahaha. Now, for the mind wipe. On no, ARLENE, what did we do with the Mind Wipe?

I have both a laptop and a desktop computer but nowadays I typically just use my laptop. My desktop is a mid-range computer from 2006.

All I've ever had is a laptop, but I have an unusual setup in that I run dual monitors with it.

I don´t like laptops. I rather like desktops (easy to find spare parts and repairs).

I have a personal laptop and two work laptops. I have plans to build a desktop at some point in the near future.

I use a laptop but I use it like a desktop. I have no objection to desktops but since starting university I've been mobile enough that a desktop wasn't a very good option for me. Never regretted having just a little expensive laptop when my uni friends were hauling half a car full of desktop to school and back.

I may or may not have traded it for a jetpack. Maybe. :p
