As the world watches, Christians have been beheaded/crucified for most part of this year in Syria/Iraq by revolutionaries funded mostly by CIA until they got out of control. Sounds like a lot like what happened with the Nazis and Jews. No strong action was taken against Hitler until in the late stages of World War II, same is going on now in Syria/Iraq

When will the USA ever learn? CIA funded Osama bin Laden until he got out of control too :( :(

Are we marching toward World War III?

Are we marching toward World War III?

We as Christians can expect to be persecuted. Paul warned us of this: "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted - 2 Timothy 3:12

Jesus also gave us fair warning:

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." - John 15:18-19

"Are we marching toward World War III?"

It's possible. We've always had wars. But with the turmoil going on in the Middle East increasing more than it ever has since the return of Israel we could be marching toward the battle of all battles. The battle of Armageddon. The battle to end all battles.

Jesus told us: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. … You do not know when that time will come” (Mark 13:32-33).

He did however give us 'things' to look for: Matthew 24:33 ...'So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.' ...

What 'things'? As 'things' were in the day's of Noah and Lot.

'But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.' - Matthew 24:37

What was it like in the days of Noah and Lot?

Genesis 6:13 tells us that in Noah's day the "earth was filled with violence." And in Jude 1:7 it says that in Lot's day, Sodom and Gomorrha had given itself over to "fornication and strange flesh". So violence prevailed in Noah's day and sexual immorality (including homosexuality) prevailed in Lot's day. And this would be a sign of the end times before Christ Jesus returns. Does this look like how 'things' are in the world today?

Are we living as they were in the days of Noah and Lot? If not then we're on the fast track getting there. Jesus said, “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me” (John 9:4). Make every day count for Him.

It's not that Godly people get persecuted out of victim-mentalities, it's that people who really follow Jesus heed his nonviolent teachings and ''offer no resistance to the evil person'', as Jesus said. When an evil person strikes a Jesus follower, the Jesus follower does not resist. That alone means people like this are more easily persecuted than those who offer resistance. Offering resistance or not offering resistance, both are choices, of course, and being unwilling to retaliate and offering evil people no resistance makes persecution easier, but it also heaps great shame on persecutors.

It's much easier to justify bombing and killing people who retaliate and fight back and who someways perpetuate conflict, but it's impossible to justify persecuting someone who doesn't resist and who takes it with forgiveness, well-wishing and even in the most exceptional cases, with compassion towards their persecutors.

Esanta,
I pray you change your views on biblical manhood before you marry and have children unless God is leading you to the life of a monk. Christian men who "really follow" after Jesus do so by protecting, providing for and leading their families, for they will never well wish evil!

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Edmund Burke

Oh I never said I was a monk, but if we want to say it like it is; there are standards for self-control Jesus sets out that few people ever meet.

Given your ignorance and penchant for using scripture out of context and misinterpreting it, I'm going to take the time to correct you yet again.

"Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked." -Proverbs 25:26

As the eminent Biblical scholar and theologian Gleason L. Archer PhD wrote in the Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties:

"How could God be called 'good' if He forbade His people to protect their wives from ravishment and strangulation by drunken marauders, or to resist invaders who have come to pick up their children and dash out their brains against the wall? No policy would give freer rein to wickedness and crime than a complete surrender of the right of self-defense on the part of the law-abiding members of society.

No more effective way of promoting the cause of Satan and the powers of hell could be devised than depriving law-abiding citizens of all right of self-defense. It is hard to imagine how any deity could be thought 'good' who would ordain such a policy of supine surrender to evil as that advocated by pacifism.

All possibility of an ordered society would be removed on the abolition of any sort of police force. No nation could retain its liberty or preserve the lives of its citizens if it were prevented from maintaining any sort of army for its defense. It is therefore incumbent on a 'good God' to include the right of self-defense as the prerogative of His people. He would not be good at all if He were to turn the world over to the horrors of unbridled cruelty perpetrated by violent and bloody criminals or the unchecked aggression of invading armies.

Not only is a proper and responsible policy of self-defense taught by Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, but there were occasions when God even commissioned His people to carry out judgment on corrupt and degenerate heathen nations and the complete extermination of cities like Jericho (cf. the article on "Was Joshua justified in exterminating the population of Jericho?" in connection with Joshua 6:21). The rules of war laid down in Deuteronomy 20 represented a control of justice, fairness, and kindness in the use of the sword, and, as such, they truly did reflect the goodness of God."

Self-defense against evil is legitimized in scripture and natural law.

What ignorant people like you do is confuse legitimate self-defense with revenge. Jesus did not tell his oppressed hearers not to resist evil. His entire ministry is at odds with such a preposterous idea. He is, rather, warning against responding to evil in kind by letting the oppressor set the terms of our opposition.

Why the right cheek? A blow by the right fist in that right-handed world would land on the left cheek of the opponent. To strike the right cheek with the fist would require using the left hand, but in that society the left hand was used only for unclean tasks. As the Dead Sea Scrolls specify, even to gesture with the left hand at Qumran carried the penalty of ten days penance and to strike someone with it was an exorbitant fine. What's being communicated here is not the threat of bodily injury but rather of insult.

The intention is not to injure but to humiliate, to put someone in his or her place. One normally did not strike a peer in this way, and if one did the fine was exorbitant in that place and time. A backhand slap was the normal way of admonishing inferiors. Masters backhanded slaves; husbands, wives; parents, children; men, women; Romans, Jews.

Of course, we don't want to start a fight to death or blood feud because someone insulted us. That; however, does not translate to Jesus ordering us to allow ourselves, our loved ones, and every innocent person on the planet to be victimized, robbed, assaulted, raped, enslaved and murdered by wicked people. The Bible teaches the opposite.

God permits life taking in self-defense ( Exod. 22:2 ), in capital punishment ( Gen. 9:6 ), and in just war (cf. Gen. 14:14–20 ). And when there is a theocratic command to do so, as in the case of Israel and the Canaanites, its moral justification is vouchsafed by God’s sovereignty.

In the New Testament, Jesus Himself nowhere circumvents the responsibility of the Christian to kill if necessary in the legitimate protection of his own life or family. In fact Jesus clarifies this in his Matthew 5:21 teaching has he chose a distinctive word (phoneuo) which means to murder not kill. Thayer (p. 657) states, it means "to commit murder." W.E. Vine (p. 291) states, "Pheneuo, to murder, akin tophoneus, a murderer." Etc... universal agreement on word usage.

I seriously doubt you practice what you preach. At the first sign your life was in imminent danger from a deceived violent murderer, I expect you'd be on the phone dialing the police to come save you as fast as you could rather than stand there and meekly let him behead you as per your false ASSertion that's what God ordered everyone to do.

Well yea, but I can openly admit I don't hit those standards, where you seem quite deluded that way. The man so opposed to all the dirty immoral people he can't recognize just how like them he is.

the blood of martyrs is seed ..... tertullian (it appears he was right)

I do not hear Age saying he is sinless, what I hear him repeatedly doing is pointing you to the truth of God's moral law. It is a loving and christian act for him to take the time to lead you as an older, wiser man to the truth of the fullness of God's character, not just one aspect of Him (that you have gotten twisted up). You seem like an intelligent and wonderful young man, maybe a study on the attributes of God would help

Persecution does not always equal church growth. Your views may be skewed because persecution has blown up the churches in Asia (Praise God!) but that hasn't been the case of northern Africa where Islam has taken over. It won't in Syria or Iraq if the Church doesn't stop ignoring the brutal tactics of Islam bent on killing every Christian. We can't sit back and watch our brothers and sisters wiped out and smile happily and say "God is growing the Church in Iraq". However, what the answer is I admittedly don't know.

What is a trip is the fact that what he is doing to Christians is exactly what the BEAST/LITTLE Horn will do as the Anti-Christ (so called) when he comes on the scene....as a matter of fact If you look at his over all plans, the things he has done, wants to do, and things he has said or have been said about him.....There are 13 things so far that are things the BEAST of REVELATION WILL DO and or demand to be done......

And yes, WWIII is close and it leads to the destruction of the WEST!

Part of the title of this thread is ''as the world watches''.

How about ''as the Church watches''?

I have visited about 4 different churches since this ISIS thing mushroomed into wholesale slaughtering of Christians....Silence.
No mention of it in the congegational prayer on Sun., no mention of it in their bulletins., no mention from the pulpit.
These are our brothers and sisters and yet...Silence.

Well, maybe we are just watching.
And your church? Prayers offered in the main service? sniffs of 1940

For those who say... or think... that it couldn't possibly happen here... surely, not to us... Maybe that is what they thought awhile ago as well?... the media is all but silent about it even though they are aware... maybe it's to avoid flaring up tensions? The US Gov't mention targeting ISIS...but not the reason for it. I agree with Crossnote... not much mention of it on the "church" or "religious" stations either. The church is either ignorant about what's happening... or we're ignoring it. To even consider that it couldn't happen here is ignorant.

We're more concerned about Ferguson... so is our illustrious leader.

At church yesterday we were praying for the Christians around the world who are being tortured, murdered and chased out of their homes, when a normally quiet, elderly lady spoke up and said, "I pray for every terrorist and Muslim. May they find the joy that I have had in Jesus Christ, amen". I thought about Matthew 5:44. I don't think that Jesus was telling us to be passive here, I think that he was telling us how to be proactive.

Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (Heb 13:3)

And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. (1Co 12:26)
