And again. "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" is revenge. Not direct defense of ourselves or the meek.

I have always felt like it was my job to protect people. Not just from humans, but anything. I know my Lord knows me, He put these feelings and understandings in my heart. If I am at a lake and someone is drowning, I do not believe they were meant to drown, if they were God would never have put me there. The same could be said for a bear attack, kidnapper, rapist or murderer. It is not my job to exact punishment, or revenge. Would I just kill a man knowing he is a murderer? no. Would I kill him to stop him from killing a child? without blinking. People like to twist scripture. "love your enemy" meaning don't harm the murderer. What about LOVE the child he is about to harm? What about love the fatherless? and the widow? the meek of the earth? I am not saying we should act in anger and hatred, I am indeed saying we should act in love. The man drops his knife and repents (turns) from his actions so be it. Run and let the police arrest you. Stay on course with your intent to harm the meek then you can have all that you wanted. You wanted a battle? battle me. Not the child.

"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call." Joel 2:32

"And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me." Psalm 50:15

"
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him." Psalm 91:15

[h=2]"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14[/h]
I also remember someone speaking about a spiritual sword.

"12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

"
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:" Esphesians 6:17

"
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil." Romans 13:4

What Jesus said about taking a (physical) sword:

"[SUP]52[/SUP] Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.[SUP]53[/SUP] Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
[SUP]54[/SUP] But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?" Matthew 26:52 - 26:54

Jesus is talking here about a very specific circumstance. Jesus is being taken away to the cross. We know it was Jesus' destiny to go and die there. He is saying He could call a legion of angels if He wanted to but this had to happen so that scripture would be fulfilled. The only relevant part of His statement is "those who take up the sword die by the sword" that is a wise statement of truth. If we pick up arms or oppose violent individuals we should all understand that there can and will be very real consequences.

I do not see what you see in Ephesians 6:10-18 but I may be alone here about the verse.
Mac.
Really?

The op is clear...referring to self defence.

I think God is pretty clear that in these times we need to protect ourselves and family

Luke 22:36
He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.

Read this, an article explaining it because Jesus had said: "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." Matthew 26:52

In Revelation it also speaks:
"He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints." Revelation 13:10

And in Psalms it says something that speaks out fighting for the poor and needy and consequences: "
82 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations." Psalm 82

"
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand." Matthew 13:13

"13 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." Matthew 13:1-17

"My kingdom is not of this world," said Jesus. "If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I wouldn't be handed over to the Jews. As it is, My kingdom does not have its origin here." " John 18:36

"But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's." Mark 8:33

"
28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." Mark 8:28-38

"18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." Matthew 16:18-28

"
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2

"
3 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:3-23

Do you think I do not know that.

"And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet." Matthew 10:14

On that note, I am no longer commenting on this.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

(Matthew 5:9)
Christians can be sure that the military is not the peace makers.

Mat 5:9 "You're blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That's when you discover who you really are, and your place in God's family.

Mat 5:1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on the side of a mountain and sat down. Jesus' disciples gathered around him,
Mat 5:2 and he taught them:
Mat 5:3 God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!
Mat 5:4 God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort!
Mat 5:5 God blesses those people who are humble. The earth will belong to them!
Mat 5:6 God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!
Mat 5:7 God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy!
Mat 5:8 God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him!

Mat 5:9 God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children!

Mat 5:10 God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:11 God will bless you when people insult you, mistreat you, and tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me.

Folks mix Old Covenant with New Covenant most times to justify the idea that they must use physical violence to protect this nation and or their family. Not once did Jesus approve of physical violence during his ministry and neither did any of the apostles either. Jesus taught to do good unto our enemies and to pray for those who despitefully use us. It's not that God is against war. He used the Israelite nation to destroy their enemies and the saints from heaven will follow Jesus from Heaven to destroy those evil unrepentant nations during the End Times. It's just that the Lord came to save and not to Judge. We are under the age of grace.

Jason, say you have a rifle, and 50 yards away is a woman cowering down with her two children, a toddler and an infant. There hovering over them is a large man with a machete who just slaughtered 3 other people from their village. What do you do?

Enough!!!, with the misunderstandings of His word.

Luke 22:38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied.

Mark 14:41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

It's not paying back evil. It's stopping it. We aren't talking about revenge. Eye for an eye, we are talking about stopping a violent assault on the meek of the earth.

You know what is happening with ISIS???? Well.......

Remember it says that the meek will inherent the earth, but if you aren't humble you will not inherent nothing; so we got to trust in God that He has prepare a place for us that there will be no more troubles. But that if you believe Him, but I think we has a lot more to go to build up our faith in Him, I think we need more than just the word of Moses and the prophets to have faith; we need to see it with our own eyes like Thomas.
