I have a question. If God promises us eternal life through Jesus but we can lose our salvation doesn't that mean that the promise of God means nothing? So when God promises us salvation then can take it away why trust Him? Just a couple questions to ponder.
If we turn and walk away it is our choice, Gods promise will still be there for us to accept again if we chose to come back to Him.
We can and do back slide, but if we repent and ask forgiveness we will be forgiven by our Lord and Savior. We still have to keep from falling and walking back in willful sin, which is done without forgiveness or repentance.
2 Peter 2:20-22
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
