Ian Paisley was a sectarian bigot for the most part of his tenure, just like Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness. If anyone thinks the man displays the characteristics of Jesus of Nazareth, they clearly haven't smelt the stench of a burning effigy on bonfire night, nor woken up to coffee yet.
I met Dr. Paisley when he was here in the states. Heard him preach Dr Ian R. K. Paisley the rams horn of northern Ireland. I'd gladly hear him again and rejoice in all the souls catholic and protestant that he has pointed to the Savior. It's so long ago I may have to dig out my old cassette tapes to hear him again.

well He is a man of God not perfect but a great man of God but who is perfect no one but the Father , but what is the flag you display ?
What does it matter? I lived in Northern Ireland for 20 years. The man was a hatemonger who did more for disparity than peace. The Catholics hated him, the educated protestants hated him, moderate unionists hated him and the Republican parties REALLY hated him.
And it wasn't because of his status as a 'man of God', it was because the man openly exacerbated conflict, citrified the society's wounds, condoned mass opposition to Catholic demonstration, refused for many years to co-operate with Sinn Fein (who also condoned Catholic-Republican violence), he pushed the repression of the Catholic people in Northern Ireland and ultimately inspired many men belonging to the paramilitary organizations fighting on the Unionist side.
You weren't there, so you don't know. But I was, and I remember him on the TV for many years; vitriol and bigotry being his two most outstanding character traits.
Growing up in Northern Ireland is 90% of the reason I oppose violence and religious disparity as much as I do.

As an Irish Catholic, this man was not a Christian man in his heyday. He was a hateful bigot, who persecuted Catholics in Northern Ireland. He appears to have calmed down a lot with age, however. But his preaching was not filled with the love of Christ, but anger and hate for Catholics and Irish people.
Really? The man is responsible for many souls coming to Christ. His hatred was not for Catholic people but for the ungodly Catholic doctrine and the pope.
Interesting to see how God used this man. He was elected to political office many times. His district was 90% catholic and he always won in a landslide. The catholic church hated that he told the truth about them but the people knew he was right and voted for him time and time again. He did not espouse violence but boldly proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A man is known by his friends and distinguished by his enemies.

You know absolutely nothing, do you? His 'district' was county Antrim and then Northern Ireland which is 40% Catholic and 50% Protestant, he proliferated violence and didn't anywhere near always 'win in a landslide', and if he ever did win by a large margin, it probably had to do with the fact that most Catholics couldn't get jobs never-mind care to vote.
well i am not here to judge but if we are true preachers we will not love the world but speak as Gosd gave us commandment , cry aloud and tell my people thy transgressions , for our goal is bringing sinners to repentance and the crooked make their paths strait no matter if persecution comes because of it , the Lord said blessed are you that are persecuted for my names sake when they revile you and speak evil of you rejoice for as they persecuted the prophets so shall they do unto you rejoice for great is your reward .
this thread is to commend great preachers not just paisley so post your most cherished sermons here be blessed , peace of christ be with you , preach that old time gospel one more time . and let our unity be of the spirit.not of sin idolatry murder or those that loveth and maketh a lie for such will not enter throyugh the gates . but blessed be those that do whatsoever the Lord commanded for great is their reward for theirs is the kingdom and they will be granted to eat freely of the tree of life and drink of the living streams.
