ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —A group of Satanists say they plan to distribute pamphlets in Orange County schools.

This follows similar moves by Christian and atheist groups who delivered materials to schools last year.


A spokesman for Satanic Temple28088776 said if Bibles are going to be handed out in schools, then students should be given access to a variety of differing religious opinions.


Specifically, the group wants to hand out the Satanic Children's Big Book of Activities.


The spokesman said the book informs students on how to protect themselves from corporal punishment at school.

The relatively new Satanic Temple believes Satan is "the eternal rebel against the ultimate tyrant" and claims to support social justice causes.


The Satan worshipers said they don't want to establish a precedent of providing religious pamphlets in public schools and prefer a strict separation of church and state.


But the group said if the Orange County Public Schools system is going to allow both bibles and atheist materials to get distributed to students, like they did last year, they want information from the Satanic Temple handed out as well.


Last year, the Freedom from Religion Foundation sued Orange County schools after atheist materials were censored.


The case was dismissed this year when the school district agreed to allow the materials to be given out.


The district has not received a formal request from the satanic group and school officials say they reserve the right to review all materials.

This Satanic Temple mob seem to be a construction made to protest religion being pushed upon everyone. I don't think they are real satanists? Like the Church of Satan that is reclusive and I think wants people over 18?

I guess they will go away if people respect the constitution and keep their denomination's beliefs to themselves.

This just the very reason, we as parents, need to teach the Word of God in our homes and share with them our ups and downs and how the Lord brings us through every time. My husband and I always have shared with our children all of our troubles - the ones that related to the - entire family - when we were homeless - we explained to them what was going on and why, and when the Lord brought us through, we reminded them of his word - to never leave us and we gave him praises for it as a family.

These things, these times we live in you have to make them aware of the LORD ALMIGHTY and his unconditional love for us - we who believe. I wish I had a journal written down every time I went through something and had it written about the way the Holy Spirit brought us through so that I could give two copies of it to my children for them to continue to write down their same trials and tribulations and how the Lord Almighty brought them through each and everyone of them too so that our testimony our trials and tribulations would be documented and testify be there for my grandchildren and great grand children and so and so forth - it would be a legacy to the Lord and his mighty works so when they are going through something, they will know that the LORD kept his promises to their great grand mother, and father, and their mothers and fathers and he will continue to do the same for them as well.

You are correct.

They aren't real satanists, neither in the Laveyan church sense (which uses satanic literature and claims to be an atheistic organization - at least at the lower levels), nor in the spiritual satanist sense where all kinds of teachings are bunched together (among which are that satan is somehow the good guy and God is the bad guy - think prometheus stealing fire from the gods). Nor are they an organization in the true satanist sense where they literally just admit they are satanists in rebellion of God (and somehow believe they can win that fight).


They're just humanists using an artificial religion to cram a political agenda down people's throats.


Heh, seems even the satanists have more than one denomination.


As for the constitution, there are very few who respect every aspect of it and don't cherry pick what they do or don't want to hear/legislate based upon their political leanings. And it never promised freedom from religion, only freedom of religion. In a public school setting it's hazy as to what this really means- which is why people have been fighting about it for decades.

I doubt they are serious about targeting children. They are just trying to get people's backs up and to make a political point (they don't think religion should be in the public sphere). They are trolling religious people with these antics.

They're trying to prove a point. The government shouldn't play favorites when it comes to religion. If you want to call it "jamming their political agenda down people's throats", then that's okay - but this would have to refer to all people who make political statements.

It seems like every time someone we disagree with makes a political statement, we want to refer to them as jamming their views down our throats. But if we support what they have to say, then they're heroic activists.

Actually, it promises freedom from government endorsed religion.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

So many Christians keep arguing that the problem with our country is that we're trying to keep God out of our government. But that's precisely why America is so amazing! It doesn't just benefit those who aren't Christian, but it also benefits Christians as well!

Do you honestly trust the government to rightfully portray Christianity or to accurately represent what God wants? If you're a very conservative Christian, it's easy to fight for a Christian nation in which they feel God would be used to help support their political views. But then we see the government using God's name to endorse war, peace, higher taxation, lower taxation, capitalism, socialism, government subsidized healthcare, anti-gay marriage, gay marriage, etc., etc., etc.

Look through history at all the wars in which leaders used God's name as reason to invade other nations. This even includes Hitler in WWII. It's not Christianity that's causing these wars, but it is being abused as a tool to recruit people into certain political agendas. They're essentially bastardizing the word "Christianity" for their own gain.

This is actually a very interesting point, because it seems like many schools are confused as to what the first amendment is actually referring to. It's perfectly okay for students to pray and talk about God, as long as it isn't encourage by the school. It's why secularists are okay with having moments of silence rather than moments of prayer in school, since religious students are allowed to pray and non-religious students are allowed to show their respect by letting everyone share in that moment.

When teachers tell kids they aren't allowed to pray in class or talk about God, the teachers are wrong and secularists will generally defend the children. But when teacher encourages prayer, it's a different story. (Keep in mind, this all refers to public schools).

As a teacher the problem with public schools is that they are scared to make a wrong move because such a large number of people on both sides of the spectrum are eager to jump on anything. I think that's what happens when you have teachers who wrongfully tell students that they can't pray or read the Bible in class. A lot of teachers are confused about what is allowed and what isn't. A teacher friend of mine got jumped on by some of her parents because she did a little lesson on Hanukkah around Christmas. Some of the parents were furious about her teaching about an "anti-Christian" holiday.
