If you will take note of my original post in the Sola Scriptura thread, I made reference (with a link) to other written works of God that the Lord chose to not be a part of the cannon of Scripture we have today.

Aren't you good with words. I'm not talking about other written words of God Jason, I'm making reference to what is spoken today this very second somewhere in the minds of men , which again, isn't written but delivered straight from the HS Himself.
Things that aren't written in the bible or on other penned works of God. What do you think God don't talk to or reveal things to us anymore since the bible came about?

Not sure why you are asking me. I made my belief clear already within the OP of the Sola Scriptura thread. I believe Revelation 22:18-19 is a "double fulfillment" type passage that speaks not only for it's time when it was written, but that it also speaks about the Book of Revelation of how it exists today, too (Which is a collection of manuscripts published as one book, known as the Bible). For God does not exist in the past, He is living and ever active within the present communicating to us by His written Word (i.e. the Bible). Tell me, what other words do you think should be authorative to Scripture (Spoken or Written)? What other words of God do you think I am missing?

Directline2iam,

I think Jason0047 is right, there's nothing to add it's complete, He's the Alpha and the Omega, He might give His children visions, discernment, dreams, or something prophetic, The bible remains the same, it is the living Word of God.

What leads you to suppose that Helen Keller was saved?

Pitting the Bible vs the Holy Spirit is a false antagonism, just as it is a false antagonism vs the Lord Jesus or God in any sense.

It is self-evident that the Bible is the Word of God.
The sample of your words above, indicates to me that you are not speaking the Word of God.
Do it is not self-evident that your words (even if you allege that they are the Spirit's words) are God's words.
I see know evidence that you have a private pipe-line to God either.

So I shall treasure God's Word in the Bible highly; but remain skeptical as to the worth of what you have to say, as I suppose you will be skeptical about the worth of what I have to say.

What leads me to believe HK was saved? What leads you to believe you are saved? There's your answer.
And I'm not pitting in your understanding the Bible against the HS. Everyone who believes in God knows that the written bible is God's word. That isn't what is in question. The OP statement is the question. Or can't you read either?
And last but not least, I didn't know it was my obligation to show any evidence to you as if you were in authority at all over me that I may have a private pipeline to God or anyone for that matter.
If you don't like my user-name, put it in a care package and send it to someone who cares. I like it and it fits me fine Atwood.

Listen to what you are saying friend....and ever active WITHIN the present COMMUNICATING to us by His WRITTEN Word. So what I understand you saying is you only communicate with God when you read the Bible. So the Spirit doesn't talk or reveal to you? God only communicates to us by His written word? I can't read any plainer than what you wrote. It just don't sound right to me but, so be it.
Your last question: what other words of God do you think I am missing? Well, if you only hear from God when reading the written word, I'd say generally, a whole bunch of 'em imo.
Let's you and I rap it up friend. I'm not debasing you just nitpicking your posts to get a better understanding of where you see things and how some of it may contrast what I see, nothing more, nothing less. It's a discussion forum. Peace to you Jason.

Okay I'm going out on limb here. The KJV or whatever version you are reading is not the inspired word of God. Look the English language did not exist in the time frame that bible was written. The inspired word of God is in the original manuscripts. The KJV is a translation and since then older manuscripts have been found that the translators did not have for instance the dead sea scrolls.

There are mistakes in the KJV. For instance the word baptism did not exist in the English language until 1611. Why because there was no English word for the Greek meaning.

But when you read the KJV you are reading the closest thing to the original manuscripts. To get closer you must have a copy of the original manuscripts and a working knowledge of Hebrew and Greek. Then as a Greek scholar told me, you must have lived in the writers time frame and his neighbor in order to get a 100% accuracy of what was meant.

This is incorrect thinking as the Spirit was poured out long before the bible was completed. And yes He does give new revelation to those whom He wills to. Until you can show in scripture where it says He don't. Good luck searching to no avail.
Well, I know of new revelation given to one which was a contradiction of new revelation given to another, both claiming it was from the Holy Spirit.

So by what standard do we measure what is true and what is not?

I just look at what you say and it surely appears
you are putting the written word which is only in part as scripture says,
above the work of the Holy Spirit as if only the written grants you salvation instead of the Spirit working faith in us.
You don't have to be able to read to be saved. Just ask Helen Keller.
My dear one, faith has content.

The content of your faith determines if it is a true faith or a false faith.

Helen Keller had someone communicating to her what she could not see or hear.

Jason posted "Do you believe the Bible is God's divinely inspired Word?"

Directline retorted:

Yes but that in itself doesn't make it all of Gods word, only the written part.

Aside from the Bible, do you have some other document which is also God's Word? If so, tell us about it & prove it is God's Word.

Do men in general on earth have ready access to oral Word of God? Can men (on earth) today recover oral (never written down) prophecies uttered by Elijah or Paul? Can men on earth get access to tapes of conversations in Heaven between God and angels?

Well Elin-Hellen,

This Keller Gambit may be the first straw-woman argument I have read (you didn't make it of course).

I don't believe that Helen Keller was a Christian but a Swedenborg cultist.
Thus, IMHO, she is irrelevant to this disgustion.

Acts 8:
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

And I'll be taking your word on that.

I think the reasons you give for doubting scripture as scripture are pretty lame.

!. To use the timeline of Revelation is silly, I think. Christ didn't live on earth as a man for 4,000 years at least after Christ first made his appearance as part of creation. That has never been something to use to question the reality of Christ with.

2. For many years after creation scripture wasn't even written down, it was all memory work. Then it was several years after the crucifixion that the last of scripture was written, that had nothing to do with the reality of God as it gives us.

3. You are making scripture say what you believe, not believing what scripture says.

4. There are many things that scripture does not tell us. For instance, scripture says God created the heaven and earth in the beginning, but God doesn't say when that beginning was in our years.

5. The bible not stating that it is all you need does not say a word about that it tells of God.

6; Jesus is God, and the bible does say it is breathed by God.

7. Some of the first Christians were pretty mixed up people like Origen and Clements. We still have mixed up people. That has nothing to do with the reality of the Lord.
This is not RedTent.

Where is RedTent. Is she okay?

Hey I was reading this and had one question about this comment "For God does not exist in the past, He is living and ever active within the present communicating to us by His written Word".

I was under the impression that God was timeless, and to me that would suggest that He can see all time simultaneously. So He can still see Adam and Eve in the garden as well as the 2nd coming and everything in between, at all times. I may have misunderstood, or even missed exactly how you meant that, but wanted to ask you how you mean that, or why you feel He's not in the past. I mean if He wasn't in the past then how do we know Him?

Ok, I just noticed the "ever active in the present" part and it seemed to answer my question and made it make sense to me.
