lame is used in the same context in britian , as it is in america and canada :D

... :D ...
So you mean vampires are 'disabled in one or more of the limbs, esp. the foot or leg; limping, halting'.

Or maybe you mean figuratively: 'not running smoothly or evenly; unsatisfactory; imperfect'.

So saith my English dictionary circa 1984.

lame - from young peoples veiw, means rubbish, crap, not worth while, .... etc etc

i am not talking about someone being lame, as in unable to walk...being in a paralyzed state...

it a young slang word...but as i said you are older than us, and probably have never heard that word used in that context...

we were saying vampires were lame...meaning....rubbish, crap, not worth while...etc etc

Ah, you're right, I've never heard anyone in real life use it in that sense. However, I did go to the trouble of getting my more up to date dictionary off the shelf (circa '91) and it said that the Yanks use the term 'lame brain' to mean someone stupid (which at least makes sense).

Maybe my friend has heard of it in the definition that you posted; he's one of those people that wears hoodies and listens to CDs. That's what you kids do nowadays isn't it?

I've heard many terms on the television, but regardless of whether or not my dictionary is up to date, no one I know uses Americanisms such as that. I had a friend a long time ago who did talk about 'movies' a lot but he was the only person I know who did so.

And even though you may not quite be a 'kid' there's nearly a decade between us. It does make me feel very old, especially when everyone these days are raving about DVDs and mobile telephones and I'm still watching VHS and carrying spare change for the 'phone box.

No. Today's Britain is not where I'd like to be at all. Some techonlogy is genuinely useful and I'm not averse to such, but most of the techy gear that people have these days simply doesn't appeal to me.

Well I regularly use technology that's useful or that I enjoy. I'm using a computer right now. I also watch television (though to be honest I won't miss it when they turn the analogue signal off in a year or so and we can't watch it anymore) and I listen to the wireless. Most of the music I own is on vinyl though I do have some CDs. I have a video player (and I've just bought a better one off ebay!) and I even own a Playstation 2.

As I said, I'm not averse to technology at all, I'm just selective in what I actually consider useful or worth the money.
