How I see religion changing in the United States

I have been reading lots of articles, surveys and studying recent historical trends here's what I see

At the end of the century

0% of population
1-main line churches will be completely dead (Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, baptist......)

Less than 5% of population
2-non denominational churches will become more liberalized be very small in number and incorporate many
Messianic Jewish traditions

Less than 5% of population
3-there will be small group of fundamentalist christians that will be heavily persecuted because of there moral beliefs.

Less than 3%
4- the Jehovah's whitness, and lds will change their moral beliefs to accommodate the state and will almost disappear

25% of population
The Catholic Church will make a major demographic change and all liberals will leave, it will be composed of large families, converts from protestantism, and immigration
Also Eastern Orthodoxy will reconcile with the pope making most of Russia catholic. Catholics will be the visible face of the state persecution. Priest and bishops will will e regularly be put to death for their moral

60% of the population
Atheistic, neo pagan, new age
This will be the group that runs the government they are already changing the language such as re defining marriage and life. Atheist such as Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are promoting abortion as actually humane for the sake if evolution. They will change the definition of our freedoms.

The Pope will ask Russia which will be a catholic country to have a crusade against the atheistic regime of Europe and the United States, Francis recently said force was justified to protect the persecuted in Iraq. Also many hard line catholics believe the end times is closely tied to Russia and the Fatima apparition not that it will actually be end times

At the end of the century I still see Jesus Christ ruling from Jerusalem.

Why do you think so

Religion in the world flows in cycles in a wave-like form. Remember a decade ago people were in churches after 9-11 to get answers. Then it went down to regular numbers. There will always be seasons of belief and disbelief but it doesn't negate that the Spirit is still working in the world. The church has always had its ebb and flow throughout the entirety of Church history. But just because it may disappear from America doesn't mean it will completely. It won't be the end of the world...it'll just be the end of the world as we know it to be.

Matt, I think you're mostly right. Christianity is in decline in America. And, authentic Christian preaching is in decline in the churches. Half the people in this forum who call themselves Christian have no tolerance for good Christian preaching. There's a country in western Europe where already over half the population is Atheist or non-religious.

I think mainline denominations will do better than you predict (better than total death). Some will try to survive by accommodation. And, there will remain some Reformed believers, even if just rebels and aging children of members today. Let's say 5% of the population.

You also appear to have left out other religions, such as judaism, buddhism, and Islam. I'd say these other religions get 5 to 10%.

I see those other religions other than conservative Jews and Muslims acomidating to the state so it would be a very small number

hopefully the chasrismatics, apolstolics, and pentecostals will go to 0% then we wont have the crazies polluting christianity

Russia will not be a Catholic country... The Patriarch might tell them to mount a Crusade, but not the Pope :)

When the west falls the pope will reach out to the east more, if you follow the progress in unity they have made recently its not a stretch

I am sorry to say that you are going the same way we went in Britain. In the last government survey less that 2% of Brits called themselves Christian, of course there seems to me more of us than that but that is simply because those of us who are Christians move in Christian circles. However having said this there is much talk of a Christian revival and as someone else said it may well turn full circle as we realise our moral state without a greater moral authority.

Britain has gone down the pan since we largely gave up on God and began to accept all and sundry into our country in the name of political correctness. Even non-Christians are now beginning to realise that the rot has to stop - hopefully beginning with the general election next year. Political correctness shouldn't embrace those who hate and seek to destroy us....does that sound like someone?

As for the US, look at us and stop the rot before you go down the same route, you still have time. Your own Christian demise is about 60yrs behind ours.

I would expect it to be higher than 2%, but the point is still valid. Christianity, as part of British culture, is completely dead. And, mocking Christianity is the standard popular response to anyone mentioning the word.

A society can tolerate people of many religions, but a society itself can only have one religion. A society that attempts to embrace more than one religion becomes Atheistic, and in the end, does not tolerate people of many religions, especially Christianity.

No it's less than 2% and that includes those who call themselves Christian - many Brits assume they are Christian because they were baptised as babies!

How YOU see religion changing in the United States?

So... this is just an opinion piece?
This is a bunch of opinions with no evidence... not even weak evidence?

It's fine to have an opinion, but this isn't a "conspiracy"...
this is just an "editorial".

This would be better in the Bible Discussion Forum,
where others could give their opinions, and everyone could debate.
