One of the most pathetic things in the human life cycle is probably watching sports.

Ok sports is good, if you play it. Yes you appreciate it. But most people don't even play the sport they follow!! It's like some cool ticket or whatever with some hyper loyalties.

Have I offended most of you yet?

Well, here's the silver lining. I had never watched American Football before but I recently saw this video, of De'Anthony Thomas and even, I couldn't help being enthralled :|

It brought a whole new interest in this sport. I always thought it was rugby Americanized ( it is though :p)

Here's the sports that I've played (most of them against my will)

1. Hockey ( was on the girl's hockey team, midfield)

2. Basketball ( was often a substitute, only because the coach practically begged me to join as I was tall)

3. Tennis (This I loved :) )

4. Swimming ( This I loved too. My dad would take me swimming at 4 AM in the morning, I was just about 5 years old. Loved it. Total water baby)

5. Badminton - Another one I loved. Played at school level. I love all solo sports. Hate team sports

6. Volleyball - just like that. For fun

7. Throwball - Played for my House in school

8. Shotput - I played it for the silver jubilee event of some blah thing. I actually won bronze ^_^

9. Table tennis - for fun (another solo one)

10. Running - Got into running for the last two years. I would run for 6 km almost everyday. I stopped after a minor sports injury.

Our school also made us do yoga (BLEH! )

So yeah I have every right to have these opinions about sports :p . Did I mention I hate cricket?

Anyway this thread is for fun :)

1. What all sports have you played in your life, if any?

2. Which were you good at? Do you still play them?

3. What sport do you hate and what sport do you wish to play or follow?

Oh yeah hockey can be really violent :(

Even with the girl's team. ( I am talking of field hockey, so it won't be like those ice hockey craziness)
*Shudders*

btw. American Football - Just look at that man weave himself through all those thugs grabbing him , running like the wind.

Absolutely beautiful ^_^!! New found admiration!!

PS - watch hockey too for that beauty, for people whizzing around with hockey sticks. Soccer too!

Oh i forgot to mention I used to play soccer too - without shoes haha :D

I LOVE watching boxing and mixed martial arts (UFC). I love American Football. I watch pretty much all sports and disagree with you wholeheartedly about it being pathetic to watch. Do we have to know how to paint to appreciate a beautiful work of art? Some of us are TERRIBLE writers who can barely put 2 coherent sentences together but does that mean we can't appreciate the works of literature throughout history? Most of you will never put on a uniform, does that mean it's wrong for people to admire soldiers or want to read about their acts of heroism and bravery? I think your original verbiage is both unnecessarily condescending and tremendously short sited. I as well have every right to have these opinions about your words.

I've never played any sports on an actual team, despite my step-dad pushing for me to do so all through highschool.

Sports I've played for fun...

Badminton- which isn't really like a sport at all, and more like a demonstration of how many times I can get whacked in the head by a racket or birdie and still find it funny.

Tennis- I'll only play this if the only rule I have to follow is that there are no rules. Unless I'm playing at the court in the city park, which is located right next to a stream; in that case, I'll play so long as the rules are that whoever loses the most tennis balls down the stream has to buy lunch for anyone else who played.

Volleyball- Ok, I sort of played this on a "team", but only the one I was required to be part of during 8th grade gym class. Come to think of it, I think me and a friend ditched that class during the volleyball junk.

T-ball- I DID play this on a team. When I was six. And I lasted less than one game, because on my first turn to bat, I hit the ball and took off running to third base. And I was embarrassed, so I quit.

Yeah...I don't do sports. I don't watch them, either, because it's just a poignant reminder of how incredibly uncoordinated I am.

Is T Ball the same as baseball?

Me too.

MMA is really fascinating! Cool to watch and learn...

So... don't mess with me mister!!!!:p
I wouldn't dream of it. That btw is the only sport I named that I'm any good at. I WAS good at american football a bunch of years ago. I was the guy who's job it was to catch the guy running. And I always liked boxing the best but wasn't blessed w/ the talent to box.

I tried my hand at boxing too. Anyway. I am going to give American football a shot ( I don't know- maybe in some crowded place?!)

Give some pointers haha!

I'll have to hand over my Canadian citizenship, but i don't care for hockey. Unless it's US against Canada. Otherwise, meh. Not a sports fan here.

I have played numerous sports and I have also watched numerous sports.

1) Long jump - I used to be a long jumper since my 5th grade. I think I even won a bronze in my school athletics. But because I was flat-footed I often sprained my ankle. Many injuries later, I quit this game.

2) 1500 m - I still run this. I have one school medal in this. I will soon start training to run a marathon.

3) Volleyball - I loved this sport. But I wasn't tall enough to continue playing this sport. I still play occasionally.

4) 4 x 100 m relay - I have a couple of medals in this sport. I prefer running the 1st leg because I have good reflexes and I love running the bends.

5) Chess - I am probably an amateur at this sport but I love playing this game. I prefer not to play with the time-limit because of which my games usually last for a couple of hours.

6) Badminton - This sport runs in my family though I am not very good at it. My maternal granddad played it semi-professionally. So did my mom. I play a bit of it but I am an amateur.

7) Football - I love this sport. I don't call it soccer because well, this is played by the foot. I follow this sport by watching important matches (most matches of Manchester United and World Cup/Euro matches). I used to play right-back but later I switched to defensive midfielder. I think football is a beautiful sport. I don't play anymore because I have an injury in my right knee.

8) Kho-kho - I played this for my school team. My 'house' won a tournament in the intra-school games. I love this sport. Pure adrenalin. :)

Though I am not a fan of cricket, I appreciate all sport. I occasionally watch some interesting Test matches and an odd game or two when CSK play.

----

About watching sports:

I think sports is a test of human endurance and fitness. So there is nothing wrong with watching a game. However, I do not encourage "armchair critics" or "internet trolls" who cannot play for peanuts but would talk as if they were champions at the game. I would love to watch a game with people who can genuinely appreciate what they are watching.

P.S. Thank you for posting the video. It was amazing to watch him weave through that mass of bodies and score touch-downs. :)

I'm not good at sports. I can hit a ball and I can run pretty fast, but other than that, I'm kinda hopeless. When I was in the 7th grade the PE teacher tried to teach us all the rules of basketball. I was kinda tall (5'7") at the time, so she thought I would be a "natural". Nope. Lots of nope. I would take the ball and run. I knew I had to dribble, but people would take it away from me. So I would run down the court with it and then shoot. Eventually they gave up on me. :D

I do watch Sacramento Kings basketball on TV sometimes. I don't watch American football because no one has ever explained the game to me. But watching whomever that was playing in that video was amazing.

Hahaha, yes I have. I prayed until a year ago.

When CSK or Manchester United played an important match, I used to literally pray for them to win. And yes, I have prayed to win every game I played.

I am also superstitious when it comes to watching games where my favourite team is playing. I would not switch my viewing habit if the team was winning. For example, if I am watching the TV and my team is winning, then I will not move from the place until the game is over. I will take a break only during half-time. On the other hand, if the team is losing then I may switch OFF the TV or watch from another location. Okay, I know this is crazy but I can't help it. :p

Oh and if Manchester United 'throw away' a game, then I would be grumpy and snappy for the rest of the day. I may even retire early to bed to 'end a bad day for me'. :D

I stopped watching IPL after that happened. What a waste of prayers! -.-

Anyway, Manchester United FTW! :D
