For ... God (2 Peter 2:4) spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, ....
Noah was the 8th person who was a preacher of righteousness. The number 8 symbolizes a new creation. Noah was spiritually regenerated by God and was a new creation in God's eyes. Noah also was bringing in a new beginning with God that would be a parallel of the future new creations (i.e. with the Millennium and the Eternal New Earth). For a day is a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day unto the Lord. In other words, approximately 6000 years has passed since the creation. This would be a parallel of the six day creation. The 7th day was a day of rest. This 7th day of rest would be the Millennium or the 1000 year reign of Christ. The New Heavens and New Earth is the 8th day (When the last of the saints will receive their bodily resurrection).

1. 6 days of creation (6000 years + Age of Grace).
2. 7th day of rest (1000 year reign of Christ, i.e. the Millennium).
3. 8th day of the Ultimate New Beginning - The Eternal New Earth (Number 8 is like an infinity symbol if you turn it on it's side).

Jesus Christ had died on a Wednesday and had risen on the the Saturday Sabbath (i.e. the 7th day) (Which was 3 days later).

Jesus Christ had ascended on the 8th day and obtained eternal redemption by entering into the Holy Temple by His blood to present Himself to the Father (See Hebrews 9) (John 20:17).

This is a interesting point, our time, and Gods time, a day is like a thousand years, I often say things happen on His time, which doesn't match our wants of time at all, He is constantly working in our lives daily, with increments we can handle rather if we understand it or not.

Noah was a preacher of righteousness. For men's wickedness had brought on a Judgment. A Judgment in the form of a Flood that destroyed the old world of wicked men as an example to those who would choose to live ungodly later. In fact, people try to twist and distort the fact that Noah was a preacher of righteousness. In the movie called "Noah" starring Russel Crowe, we see the exact opposite of a righteous man.

yeah, if we let hollywood tell it, there will never be understanding, and some would think it was a good christian thing to do would be watch that film, and get what the director and producers want us to, it's false, didn't even watch it, I herd enough about it that I didn't want to because I knew it wasn't truth, feel bad for the ones who don't know and accept their interpretations

Yeah, I wanted to see how bad they messed it up. It was nothing like the Biblical account in any way except that there was a man named Noah, an Ark and a flood. God didn't even talk to Noah. Anyways, biblical inaccuracies aside, it wasn't even a good movie.

However, I know what you mean. I initially did not want to see it at all, either (Because of what I heard). My fiancé and I watched it together and we really thought it was one of the top worse movies of all time. Just really really bad. For nothing in the movie made any sense.

It could also mean how much all of what God has to deal with everyday, too. While God deals simultaneously with everyone at once, I imagined what it was like if I had the super power to freeze time so as to help people. That I would not age and I could see every person on the planet that was alive at the nano second I had frozen time so as to protect them. Can you imagine how long it would take for me to see every person that existed within the one second I had frozen time? I imagine it would be a very long, long, long time for me to visit everyone.

The Genesis Flood can be divided on the basis of variation of the water level, into three stages:

Stage I: (Day 1 to Day 40)—rising water level,
Stage II: (Day 40 to Day 150)—steady water level,
Stage III: (Day 150 to Day 371)—falling water level.

I will come back to discuss this part of the passage in just a moment because it is a point that is repeated with the use of other words in the upcoming text.

"and the ark went upon the face of the waters."

Again, what does the Ark symbolize? Jesus Christ (God Almighty).

In the beginning, God moved upon the face of the waters before He brought forth the creation (Genesis 1:2). For in the beginning was the Word.... and the Word was God (John 1:1). All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). This pictures how God is creating a new world for Noah just as He did back in Genesis 1.
I also see the ark, as a womb of such, a protection, arks carry the work, I see our mothers wombs as arks, ark of the covenant, and Noah's ark, they were covered and protected.

It would still take us years, He does it simultaneously, in our time, no pauses, everyday. He Is...

Reminds me of this passage.

Luke 13:34 NLT
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn't let me."

Yeah, everything He does, He starts out as a protector, we our brought up for nearly a year (9 months) like Noah in the (waters) of our mothers womb, We are naturally safe, till we exit, then anything can happen. Then He gives us choice and the mother and father choices. He wants to always be our protectors if we let Him, with free will.

So Noah, family, and animals were on this boat for little over a year. Remember reading Noah letting a falcon go or some bird to check for dry land,
Noah sent forth both a raven and a dove. The dove was sent several times. It brought back an olive branch on one of it's journeys. It symbolized new life or a new world. It is possible it also symbolized peace, too. That the world at that point was no longer violent with man's wickedness but it was currently at that time filled with peace. For it could be the etymology of the phrase "extend an olive branch."

There is also a catch phrase that reminds me of the Global Flood, too.

"Come Hell or high water."

The first thing that we know that grew then, is a olive tree,

1 Kings 6:31 - And for the entering of the oracle he made doors [of] olive tree: the lintel [and] side posts [were] a fifth part [of the wall].

Acts 5:30 - The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

I'm with you with the phrases that are still used

Leviticus 24:2
And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

Judges 9:8
The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Job 15:33
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

Psalms 52:8
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Solomon tells a lazy person to study the ant so that they can be wise (Proverbs 6:6). So we can indeed learn from animals. The Scriptures say that all life has a soul (Job 12:10 KJV) and that animals will go to Heaven (Romans 8:19, 20, 21, 22) (Pay close attention to verse 21). In fact, we are to take care of young birds when their nest has fallen out of a tree (Deuteronomy 22:6). So we are to love all of God's creatures (whenever possible). For they will be our friends in heaven and in the Eternal New Earth one day. However, that said, man is supposed to have dominion over the animals, though.

For...

God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26). Today, people make animal noises in church as a part of them being led supposedly by God. People today make animals more important than people (And centered their lives around them instead of God). The Word was made flesh into the flesh of a man and not an animal so as to die for our sins. Although we can learn from animals and we are to love them, they have a lower status than man (And they should never be uplifted above mankind in any way by saying or even implying that they are "smarter or better than us" --- Making them appear more important than man). For man has a liberty in Christ to eat unclean animals under the New Testament. Man has sacrificed animals under the Old Testament as a temporary covering of sin which was a shadow or type of Jesus Christ who would take sin away forever.

Anyways, I say this not to start a debate (obviously) but so as to clarify the truth here in love.
I'm seeing more and more of this, animal business like (petco) getting bigger and bigger, people are losing love for fellow man because of whatever reason (hopelessness)and focusing attention more on animals, (big in hollywood) I've herd quite a few stories of people leaving their fortunes to a animal. This is a vain act to me, that shows you don't like people(would rather give it to the dog) Good post Jason

While I do believe Jesus is the trunk and the root of the Olive Tree; I believe the Israelites are the natural branches (that were not spared when they rejected their Messiah in unbelief) and the Gentiles are the wild olive branches that were grafted in (As spoken about in Romans 11). I also believe the "two olive trees" in Zechariah and Revelation are the two witnesses in the End Times, too.

The Two Witnesses:
(Prophecy of the Two Witnesses (Moses & Elijah)):

Malachi 4:5

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD

Zechariah 4:11 and Zechariah 4:14

"11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?" ... "14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth."

Revelation 11:1-5

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, “Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.”

Yeah, people's moral compasses are off track when they don't have Jesus in their life. They need the Lord to transform their heart and lives.

And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days. (Genesis 7:24).

...
Edit Correction: - After looking at Genesis chapter 8, I noticed that I added Genesis 7:24 in too early and needed to add a few verses in before it. I will repost it again with the correct verses in place.
