So, ever since my bank caught fraudulent use of my debit card a couple of months ago my wife and I have been vigilant in checking our account online daily. Today we found three charges that were unknown to either of us and after talking with the bank trying to determine where the charges originated found out that all three of them were online purchases off of my new card. Fortunately the bank will block all three charges so I'm not out any money but it's unnerving that somehow I have been the victim of this twice in only a couple of months!!!!

I remember years ago when debit cards were pretty new everyone thought they were a great thing because it meant you didn't have to carry cash and risk losing money due to theft, it seems to me that going back to carrying cash might be the better thing.

GAAAAAAAAAGHHGH!!!!!!!!
I deal in cash only... cash protected by hallow point....

Been called a few things that rhymed with it... :p
Let'se see...what rhymes with it? Lots of things do, but you can be called very few things...Lit? Mitt? Armpit? Who'd call anyone an armpit? That sounds awfully mean...and smelly. :p

Well, whatever they called you it more than likely wasn't true. Unless it was a compliment. Then it probably was true. :D

It's been a good day. Had coffee with a friend I haven't seen for over a year that I have been buying scarves that she crochets and sells. It was a good talk. Good chance she's coming to the church I go to this Sunday night to check it out. I really felt supported today and it means the world to me. I often feel that people don't understand or care. Or that I have to explain myself away for the person to get it. Having my doctor backing me up to have disability student status approval feels like a weight is lifted. It's great when people just get it. Also I bought a lovely fragrant cranberry candle for my room. Things are coming along.

Sometimes people treat me like an 'agony aunt'. But I am not a woman!

what's an "agony aunt"?

wait... you're not a woman?!?
"Agony aunt" - a person, usually a woman, who gives advice to people with personal problems, especially in a regular magazine or newspaper article.

No gypsygirl, I am not a woman. Just as you are not a bell pepper. :p

Roh_Chris, here in the states it's referred to as a "Dear Abbey" after a popular syndicated newspaper column where people write in to "Abbey" and she responds with advice. The letters to "Abbey" traditionally start out "Dear Abbey." Hence the column name.

If you are a "Dear Abbey" then people really like to talk to you about their troubles. Possibly to get advice, but probably just because they like to complain.

So I am the male version of "Dear Abbey". Would that be "Dear Abbott"? :p

Glitch had a personality. The Guardian Enzo talked to said the keytools chose their guardians, and Bob talked directly to Glitch right before Bob and Glitch merged into one being.

Yes, I saw every episode. Yes, I'm a nerd. I don't care, I liked it.

And sometimes I still wish I had a Glitch of my own... Glitch: Hoverboard!

Today's goal: figuring out a way to feed a family of four on $300 a month.

I hate budgets. But then, I quite like the idea of buying a house in the near future, soo...

My other mother-in-law...step-mother-in-law? Anyway, she told me that she fed herself and her three kids on five dollars a day for years. Granted, this was well before a pound of hamburger cost $4.00. Even so, if I can figure out how to feed us all for under $10 a day, I'm ahead of the game...a little.

The trouble is, diapers and household cleaners and toilet paper and cat food are part of the grocery budget. And coffee. Coffee needs its own, separate budget around here.

I keep coming up with $200 just for half of the month's groceries.

Back to the drawing board *sigh*

Mrs Cris: Look into cleaning with diluted vinegar. My niece is "medically complicated" and they have to avoid all the modern "anti-bacterial" cleaners as part of an effort to avoid MRSA. *Nearly* all the household cleaning is done with a diluted vinegar solution that is just as effective as somethings and better than others. It's Ridiculously cheap, too. The house sometimes smells a little pickle-y, but it's not any worse than the clorox/pinesol/windex smells.

As a last resort, eat the cat.

As a fellow feline I cannot endorse the ingestion of any feline matter.

I can endorse bent-and-dent stores, aka salvage groceries. If they have any in your area I'd recommend it. You have to look at each can you buy and I wouldn't buy anything TOO bent up, but it's way cheaper. And you can find some neat stuff you'll never find in your local grocery store. I actually shop at them more to find neat stuff than to save money.

I remember stories of my grandparents going through the depression, eating peanut butter sandwiches for three meals a day. Gotta do what ya gotta do... I shudder to think how my generation would make it if they had as little as our ancestors had. But we may find out, if the economic doom-sayers ever turn out to be right.

And speaking of cleaning - most cleaners are variations on a theme. You don't have to buy seventeen different bottles to clean the house, you don't have to buy official laundry detergent (hint: Borax is a wonderful thing, and the internet can give a lot of help in how to use it) and if you use your head you don't have to get specialty shampoos, body washes, face creams and etc. Know what I use to shampoo my oily hair? Dawn dishwashing liquid. It works, it doesn't take nearly as much as I would have to use of shampoo and one small bottle lasts three months. It's strong stuff...
