Before I became a Christian I didn't really believe in Satan or anything which could be considered anti-Christ. In fact I would say I was fascinated and entertained by all things spooky. I once went to a spiritualist church, I was asked to accompany a friend who had lost 3 of her siblings early in life. I felt sorry for her and understood her need to "contact" them. I remember after the event passing it off as "a load of nonsense". The spiritualist spoke to my friend about her dead grandmother and I remember lamenting "that describes your granny, my granny and just about every granny in England!" I never went again.
I used to sit through horror movies and laugh when everyone else was screaming because I had no fear of the devil. I would say that the scariest movie I have ever watched has to be the Exorcist but I never had nightmares about it even though I managed to get into the cinema to watch it aged just 16! I heard of people who committed suicide after watching that - it broke new ground back in the 70's.
I have to say though that since coming to Christ I have a new-found - I'm not sure what word to use - it's not really fear, respect then I guess, of anything anti-Christ. I remember my pastor told me I shouldn't be watching horror movies as "it can let in things you don't want to invite in". I think one of the most profound things he said to me was in response to the question: "how can mediums and such know so much about the dead? Very often it's SO accurate". His reply: "Satan gives them the information". Now that seriously spooked me out!
These days I stay away from all things spooky although sometimes it's unavoidable. On going to the movies just last weekend to watch a movie that would be considered OK for a Christian to watch, I was faced with 3 devil-themed trailers - I didn't think about the time of year and Halloween One was about an Ouija board, I think one was about the devil himself and there was also another about Halloween. I refused to look at the screen but couldn't block out the person speaking in the devil's voice. I know the devil cannot hurt me as I belong to Jesus although I'm aware he will always try. "Resist the devil and he will flee".
