If we fancy ourselves to be approved workmen capable of rightly dividing and distributing the Word of truth, then we should be able to address this kind of stuff scripturally:

"The drive to copulate is based upon a hard-wired instinct, therefore, fulfilling the urge is no more wrong than drinking a glass of water."
 
True, but we are to tell the truth, such as we can't serve two masters. We will love one and hate the other.

I'm not trying to play devil's advocate. Just remembering some of the things that I felt before choosing to follow Jesus. To the above, I might have said;

"So your telling me I must choose? Isn't that a force play? Is it saying I must either serve God or else He will cast me into the lake of fire? I don't hate anyone. I just want to be free and have fun."
 
That statement is making me think haven't had my decaf coffee yet and my first thoughts were that statement would be o.k. if we were animals but we are humans and have been directed to keep ourselves pure and holy. So then the statement might be o.k. if one were married?

Life is full of choices we humans have to make every day sometimes this Blond is overwhelmed with all the choices in any one given day and wish someone else would make them for her. But alas I am the one having to make those choices and I find with God's help I seem to make better ones than making them on my own. To or not to that is the question? Sometimes I make the wrong choice but with God I can only make the right choice.
 
struggling with sin is one thing but 'willingly giving-in' to it is quite another.
the 'giving-in' is the acquiesce=submitting to be a slave to sin and refusing
to be a slave to righteousness.

1CORINTHIANS 5:11.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator,
or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts,
covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

Yes, I was formulating an answer for this OP statement and I came up with the same three points you did;

1:We are different from the animals in that we alone are created in His image. (Gen 1:27) We are special! Isn't that nice to know?

2:We alone have the opportunity to walk in white garments called Purity and Holiness, just like our Father. (1 Peter 1:15,16)

3:We alone can experience that special kind of security that is only be found in a marriage commitment. (Matt 19:6)

He has such wonderful plans for our good success (Josh 1:8). Who in their right mind would want to go their own way after realizing this?

I find myself returning to this post. I must have heard them and read them 100s of times, but never had the utter power and severity of these verses struck me until now. Is the 1 Cor 5:11 referring to what used to be called a ban? The Mark 7s are powerful because they probe into even the thoughts of man. Every man gets pinned by that one.

there's a lot of fallen nature that's 'hard-wired'.

maybe i like your stuff better than my stuff....shall i take it from you?
maybe i don't feel like obeying certain laws of the land...
maybe i don't want to cut the grass and don't care what it does to your property values...


but i'm not sure we should expect the Bible to make sense to unbelievers.

psychomom is so right in referring to 'hard-wired', our 'human-nature' before Christ
is surely nothing to be proud of, abominable at best.

1COR.5:11, is living and applicable today, as this scripture testifies;

1COR. 6:9.
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived:
neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

when we have the phrase 'Kingdom of God' interwoven into the scripture, such as in the above,
and in MATT. 5:19 etc....
these particular scriptures have far-reaching consequences, we would all do well by taking heed.
