Eternal Security is a doctrine which goes with Salvation/Justification by Faith alone, for if one required works for salvation, how could anyone ever be secure, knowing that he may yet do bad works & be damned? Thus as a preliminary, let us post the Acts Verses on Salvation by Faith alone. It should be noted that over & over, many, many times, scripture requires of man only one thing for salvation, namely faith or belief in the Lord Jesus, dependence/trust in the Savior (NO WATER, NO WORKS). In fact the scripture where salvation/justification is by faith alone are too many for this forum to accept in one post.

When it is said in scripture (so many times) that salvation is offered just for belief, that does not mean "belief that" something is so. Biblical pistis (faith) is trusting; the Savior must be trusted (not water, not works). In that the Savior is trusted for salvation, this rules out deeming him merely a "chance-giver." (Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.)

SALVATION BY FAITH ALONE IN ACTS

Act 13:48
And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and
as many as were ordained to eternal life
believed.

Ordination to eternal life precedes belief. "Eternal life" implies security, for the life given (just for belief) is not temporary, but eternal.

<Acts 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved.
"Thou shalt be" is a definite future, a promise of God.
There is in fact a Savior who saves.

Acts 15:8
And God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us; and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

Hearts are not cleansed by water or works. Only by faith. This is a permanent cleansing of the heart. Indeed Christians do sin; but then in the Biblical figure of speech, all the believer needs is a foot cleansing (his feet got dirty), but the man as a whole is clean completely, requiring no new salvation.

Acts 26:18b

"that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in Me."
-------------------------------

The doctrine in Acts can be compared with other scripture, such as in Romans:

Rom 1:16-17
For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith.

[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

Rom 3:21-30

But now apart from the law a righteousness of God hath been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction;
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; 24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 whom God set forth to be a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God; 26 for the showing, I say, of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]
27 Where then is the glorying? It is excluded. By what manner of law? of works? Nay: but by a law of faith. 28 We reckon therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yea, of Gentiles also: 30 if so be that God is one, and he shall justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith.

[NO WORKS, NO WATER]
Rom 4:1ff

:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, hath found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God. 3 For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]
4 Now to him who works, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt. 5 But to him that works not, but believeth on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

6 Even as David also pronounces blessing upon the man, to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works, 7 saying,
Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.

9 Is this blessing then pronounced upon the circumcision, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say, To Abraham his faith was reckoned for righteousness.

[NO WORKS, NO WATER]
10 How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision: 11 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision: that he might be the father of all them who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned unto them; 12 and the father of circumcision to them who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had in uncircumcision. 13 For not through the law was the promise to Abraham or to his seed that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

14 For if they that are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of none effect: 15 for the law works wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there transgression. 16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace; to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

17 (as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, even God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were. 18 Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And without being weakened in faith he considered his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; 20 yet, looking unto the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief, but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 Wherefore also it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

Rom 5:1-2
Being therefore justified by faith, let us have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and let us boast in hope of the glory of God.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

Rom 9:30:
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling; even as it is written,
Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence:
And he who believes on him shall not be put to shame.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

Rom 10:4ff

For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes.
[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

For Moses writeth that the man that doeth the righteousness which is of the law shall live thereby. But the righteousness which is of faith says thus, Say not in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down:) or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach.

How many threads are you going to start on the subject of eternal security? The reasoning in this one is flawed just as in the others. How about a thread on proper reasoning, critical thinking, and logical fallacies?

Salvation is not probation.
Eternal life is not temporary life.
Jesus is the door. He is not a revolving door.

Very well put.

Just may add that if our works are added...how do we know if we did enough? Our works could never be enough. You could spend every waking moment doing good works and still question if you did enough. You would never know the peace of God and the hope of the glory of God.

If you don't know how much is enough then how do you know you couldn't do enough?

How many threads are you going to start on the subject of eternal security?

The Anathemites persist with new threads using false titles. So grin & bear the truth, Butch.

BTW, your just saying things, proves nothing.

There is nothing fallacious about the Word of the Triune God:

Romans 8 and John 10 go hand in hand. "Walking in the spirit" and being the sheep of John 10 is, hearing His Voice, knowing it as Him and then following.

Besides The Word we have to follow with our God given conscience, we have the Spirit of our Shepherd that leads us as well.

We don't just go looking around for work to do - He always puts it right in our face - if we just don't realize that - yet.

Not a sparrow falls without His will - and not one thing crosses your path in a day that isn't from Him for you to see.
He'll show you what to do with these things that come in front of you each day. Whether it's a human or something in the mail or on the forum.... they're all Divine appointments for you to react in a certain way - and as Romans 8:29 says - to conform us into His Image. That's when we start to depend more on Him to speak and do the works 'through' us so that in the end - HE gets all the Glory and we throw our crowns down around His feet One Fine Day. :)

Very well put.

Just may add that if our works are added...how do we know if we did enough? Our works could never be enough. You could spend every waking moment doing good works and still question if you did enough. You would never know the peace of God and the hope of the glory of God.

And that is the whole deception. Pride and self righteousness says, "I can do enough." It's all about MY accomplishments, MY works. Are we like the self righteous Pharisee who stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' OR THE TAX COLLECTOR - who standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' The tax collector went down to his house justified rather than the other.

If you don't know how much is enough then how do you know you couldn't do enough?

The difference is I have total faith in Christ so I can enjoy the peace of God. I can show my faith in God by my love for Him and others by the things I do. You can't say you have the peace of God because you are so worried that you need to do good works. You are so worried about your salvation because you think you need to add good good works.

Good works just happen because of my faith. For you, you force good works because you think you need them for salvation.

So what is good works? Are they a way of life, a fruit you have? Or are they something you strive to do? If you have to work to do good works then they are a job not a fruit.

You can only be grafted into the vine by faith then you will produce good works. By "duct taping" yourself to the vine then forcing good works the "duct tape" will fail. Duct tape is a fix all for everything except faith.

There are 3 things we must do...

Accept that we are powerless to save ourselves.

Surrender everything to God.

Have complete faith in God in everything.

Until we come to an acceptance of these we will never have the peace of God or be able to have the hope in the glory of God. But also understand these aren't works of our own but a surrendering of ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit. Allowing the faith of God to give us the faith in Him.

Accept, surrender, faith

No doubt and I agree and will add....

Galatians teaches that those who tie works and faith together FOR salvation teach a heretical gospel other than what the bible teaches...a gospel with no power to save and double cursed

Abraham had faith YET BEING UNCIRCUMCISED.....

I will also add that NOT one person who teaches faith based salvation will say that works will not follow as an APPLE TREE is an APPLE TREE as soon as it sprouts, yet requires growth and maturity before it produces FRUIT!

Act 13:48

[NO WORKS, NO WATER]

Firstly, you don't know what I worry about. Secondly, the position you advocate is based on the fallacies of Contextomy and the Argument from Silence. If the premise is flawed the outcome is flawed. However, what you said doesn't address my question, if you don't know how much works are necessary, how can you say one cannot do enough?

The Anathemites persist with new threads using false titles. So grin & bear the truth, Butch.

BTW, your just saying things, proves nothing.

There is nothing fallacious about the Word of the Triune God:

Acts 26:18b

"that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that aresanctified by faith in Me."

You're right about one thing, the Word is not fallacious, however, the way you use the word is. As Christians who claim to follow the Truth, I would think that we would do anything necessary to root out anything that leads to falsehood or error. However, it seems that is not the case. I have pointed out the improper reasoning and use of fallacious to quite a few Christians and rather than look at the issue seriously to see if they are in fact reasoning improperly they simply ignore it and continue on with the same improper reasoning and logical fallacies. Is that seek the Truth? I don't think so. You've posted several time about, the truth of God's word, yet you continue to use the word fallaciously. Paul said of the Jews,

2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. (Rom 10:2 NKJ)

You have a zeal for God and could be a great asset if only you would root out the fallacies and errors in reasoning.

Christian, If you're a Christian and claim to seek the Truth, why do you not root out the errors in reasoning that seem to plague Christianity?

amen, that's the stuff. Eternal security does not give us a license to sin, but a license to rest and an encouragement to sin less.
