The wordy part... I think the pharisees used to do that. As for repeating the same phrase over and over, I remember one preacher was talking about how when you pray you TALK to God, you don't just say "Jesus Jesus Jesus" over and over. He said, "If I walked in one day and my wife said "David, David, David" and that's all she said over and over, I'd think her brain had fried."

And live with a sense of worldliness without the fear of compromising
Loving God and neighbor until Christ comes to split the sky
Or die in this society hailing Jesus as Messiah

I like that thought by the preacher. That's generally how I've always viewed prayer, too. Except when I first became a Christian and thought I didn't know how to pray. Which I soon realized was false.

ok, how silly is it of me that about half the time i see the words "fist bump" my mind goes to ...

isn't that messed up? however, i do think those purple-laden siblings should get the credit for the fist bump. ; p

Believe it or not, all my knowledge of said show comes from hearing other peoples references about it. i don't really have a clue otherwise.
 
I was thinking about that silly Cartoon Network clip just the other day. I can't even remember how long ago it was I saw it, but I still remember their conversation. And the mop.

"I could get beaten by a sponge. Wouldn't even have to be an evil sponge."

well, as you can see, they CLEARLY perfected the fist bump. and because you're so curious:

for some reason, he always turned into some version of water, and usually it started off with him being a bucket of water, and she becoming an eagle carrying that bucket of water, eventually arriving in time to save the galaxy.

it was one of the rare cartoons i saw, at least a little of.

note: i sorta wish i had a pair of boots like that. ; p

I don't like when someone says, that's not Christian like. I also don't like God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
 
One of my biggest pet peeves is people that put random expectations on me that I know nothing about at the time...
"Oh, so you're like...really don't know anything about (random thing here)... that makes me really angry at you."

Repeating the words "God", "Jesus", or "father" 50 times during a prayer. "Dear father, I just want you to know, father, that we love you dearly as a church. And father, we come before you in prayer father, to bless your name and ask to help those that need spiritual blessings in the church, father. Father, please be with us during our time of worship, and father please multiply the recievings for the furtherance of your kingdom father. In Jesus name, amen. Father."

Going to a Christian college with a 4:1 girl-guy ratio, the whole ring by spring and desperation of incoming female students hooking up with guys was a huge pet peeve.
 
For real! We have a college in the UPCI called Indiana Bible College, but many call it Indiana Bridal College. So many girls go there specifically to get a preacher husband.

Err... you really WANT a preacher for a husband? Maybe you should ask your pastor's wife about what fills (to overflowing) her days.

Don't judge.

Usually the person who says it has determined that someone else has done something wrong, and has thus her/himself judged. Matt 7 doesn't forbid judging. The misquoted verse is about hypocrisy.


Tithing.

Well off people will give $25 on $100 and call it a tithe. Those struggling with finances will give $1 on $100 and call it a tithe. A tithe is 10%. On $100, it's $10.

Secondly, multiple types of tithes are mentioned in the OT. If one is going to tithe, then one is obligated to more than 1 type of tithe, which is more than 10% one's income.


A sin is a sin.

Sin stinks. It's disgusting. God hate sin.

Intentionally burning a house down to murder the sleeping inhabitants it clearly more vile and abhorrent than eating 5 cookies and admitting to eating 4 and, thus, lying about the situation.

Sins are not, then, all equally bad.

Personally i try to not pet any peeves. They shed all over the place.
