I've been at the Big Bear Solar Observatory before and done night time astronomical observations with the Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society. The solar observatory there presently has the largest clear aperture solar telescope in the world; however, the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope will exceed it upon completion.

This is just great... now the SciFy channel will make another awful movie where people save the day in the last five minutes but torture us with bad acting for the other 110 minutes.

More like the Discovery channel and they'll pass it off as "science."

in more news completely unrelated to the thread topic (which is to say, "moving along"):

Dark Matter's New Wrinkle: It May Behave Like Wavy Fluid

Dark Matter would be a great name for an unblack metal outfit. A debut album titled Wavy Fluid would ensure their absolute success.

This needs to happen now.

That horrible acting is hilarous though. Seriously no one watches a SyFy original for the plot, or the acting, or the content. They watch it for the camp factor. Serious camp factor.

Agreed ... since they don't contain any of those qualities. Amazingly, I find myself cheering for the meteors, floods, giant pirannagatorspusses every time. And.... I would really like to see a movie where there is no great last five minute solution to the crisis. Imagine... the meteor impacts and the screen just goes dark. No credit... no nothing.

Actually I kind of like aok input as he used to work for nasa. But do you honestly believe that the news would tell us if such an event was going to happen? Do you recall what happened in 2012? there was mass mayhem in the united states, ppl were freaking out storing up all food and supplies and there were robberies to get what they needed and this was just from a rumor. Now imagine how much worse it would be if the news were to tell everyone this would happen? The high up ppl simply would not allow it they are not that stupid, they believe that for global peace many have to be left in the dark. Half the stuff on the news already is either stuff we already know or just a bunch of side distractions to distract us from the real story.

Now I am not a conspiracy theorist I just know how this stuff goes down. Trust me if such an event were to happen it would not be in the news
Actually the news would probably say anything to get ratings, but NASA on the other hand being a government organization would not have authorization to release a statement. Especially something to that magnitude. A conference would probably have to be held at the UN. Personally as a contractor for NASA I can say that NASA has other things to focus on rather than something like that. They're actually late on a supply trip to the ISS so they're rushing around trying to get something up there for them. I will say this though. No matter what the protocol there will always be someone who will leak a story to the media especially if it is serious because most people have morals that out weigh protocol, and the News will not hold it back. They're a business, and like any business they need traffic. So to make a long story short, you really shouldn't be looking for news or conspiracies on the internet. That's where all the false information is going to be. Any legit information would probably be on your local news channel.

Probably be a good thing if we had 3 days of darkness or when they say darkness they mean no power, no electronic devices. Perhaps it would coax myself and other to go outside more lol Nothing like abit of adversity to wake us up and to become more innovative.

Iron Sky!

Except the acting was quite good in that movie, and it was quite good.

NASA is too busy giving away our rocketry science to the Muslim world on Obama's orders to be concerned with solar storms and whatnot.

"When I became the NASA administrator, [Obama] charged me with three things," NASA head Charles Bolden said in a recent interview with the Middle Eastern news network al-Jazeera. "...he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."

NASA's new mission: Building ties to Muslim world | Nation | San Francisco | San Francisco Examiner

^ Seriously, Muslims only want rocketry science for one thing. Take this quiz to see if you guess the correct answer.

1. Muslims want rocketry science to spread world peace and help the sea manatee.
2. Muslims want rocketry science to boost their self-image.
3. Muslims want rocketry science to build rockets to blow non-Muslims up.

Hint: It's number 3.
Uhhh...mmmm that is a hard question....maybe number 3 HAHA

Now you really need to be fair & to qualify such a horrible generalization about Peaceful Islam.

Prejudice is a terrible thing. Politically Correct Revision:

" Peaceful Muslims want peaceful rocketry science to build rockets peacefully to blow non-Muslims up peacefully."

I reckon 3 days of darkness would kinds be good. Especially when it's hot dry bushfire season in Australia.

Kinda bummed this is not a real thing. But then again I like cyclones and stuff.
