No offence, but Chapter 1:1, 4-5 kind of contradicts that theory....

Vs. 1 was perfect, upright and feared God
vs. 5 sanctifies his sons, rose early and offered burnt sacrifices for all and did this continually.

He cant be spoken lightly of for sure...!

In the Book of Job, it says that Job's children were living under their own roof and which they has to show an account of their own sins because they weren't under their father's roof anymore; and so they are suppose to sacrifice their own cattle. Now you know why God had set the captives free (Mothers against daughters and so on).

Exodus 32:31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”

33 The Lord replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book.

Genesis 9:5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

In my humble opinion,
the book of Job tells us that,
even if you are the most faithful to Lord, most well succeeded materially, with best blessed family. You still can pass through probation.
Probation doesn't always means it is for men to see and criticise it. It means that militias of heaven and hell are also watching it and waiting your final "position/answer" in front of God.
The book of Job tells us also amazing details about creation of God (chap. 38, 39, 40...)
So rich, the book of Job.
I think Job knew God well enough to know that no haughty response or rough, would bring his family back, and at the end God gave him twice as much back. Praise the Lord!
I just love this book.

The questions were clear and you never answerd one. I know Job was blessed and his suffering only lasted 9 months.

satan attacked Job but many Christians say God did and other say well God hired satan to do His dirty work as we seen in one post already. Yes God blessed Job but can you not just answer the question? So what you siad is great. But so we can learn together. We need to answer the questions and you never. But I do know where your coming from. Unless you think it was God also and are doing a little hiding behind the end result. Anything I ask is not for me its for learning.
Job had a season in the furnace of affliction to try his faith mentioned in these verses
Job 23:10,Psalm 66:10,Isaiah 48:10.1 Peter1:6-7,Hebrews 11:25.

If you wish to have an answer as to whether God or satan performs the sifting of men to try their faith see this verse.......
Luke 22:31

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

If you wish to have an answer as to who created all things for His purposes see this verse .......
Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

"Punishment" is for retribution of an offense. This was not the case with Job. This was a trial of his faith, it is a requirement.

Job 42:12
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

James 5:11
Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

And I am not sure where did you come with the idea that one must work for God to love them?
I think God created us out of love and that God loves everybody, including those who don't believe in Him.
yet. what is the gospel. Is he going to allow everyone into heaven just because he loves them? Can his love overrule his justice?

This might help clarify Luke 22:31

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. [for them anyways]
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; [things that offend is subjective, do you think that Christians offend atheists?]
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. [If it does not bother one's conscious to think it will happen, do you think it will bother their conscious if it happens]

His love will burn them. God loves everybody. But God is like a consuming fire and we also become like fire if we receive the Holy Spirit.
Also, God gave us means for entering into His kingdom. Christ established His church and sent the Holy Spirit so that we can enter in Life while still in this limited time and space.
If someone refuses to unite with Christ and they will suffer the consequences (that of being outside of Christ) it is only because of their freedom, not because God hates them.

F.Y.I. If you are going to post "public" comments such as this, then there is no need to send me PM's.......k?

And, I don't mind at all that my comment will be recorded in heaven.......IF you believe that you are so very far advanced in Scriptural understanding than others here...........you ain't been here long..........and to pretend such is "elitist" and certainly NOT Biblical..............but, don't get all in a "dither," because my comment was tongue in cheek to begin with.

Who wrecked his life?
Who punished him?
Did God hire satan?
Was it Jobs own fault?

I think the story of Job's suffering proves who God is and makes points about the reality of God on many different levels. God proves Job's friends are self righteous and do not really know God. It proves that the devil's attacks only make believers stronger and better (in the end). It also proves that we all doubt at some point in our lives and most suffering has nothing to do with us doing something wrong or bad. I think through suffering, we understand how the Lord suffered. The more suffering, the more wisdom and knowledge and the higher levels of Glory.
