so my church is doing a study about the meaning behind names. I actually learned a lot, in the bible days names were very important and were given to show a persons character or life. For instance Zacharias meaning "God has remembered") Or John Jehovah has been gracious. Names were very important to the jews as the are to God. However nowadays most of us are given names for many different reasons however Sometimes I am sure God has an intended purpose for it. For instance My name Blain is a very rare name and has several meanings, in the english dictionary it means an infected pussy sore but in the urban dictionary it has other meanings

To outstandingly destroy or defeat an opponent or obstacle, especially when the odds are against the one blaining. Term was originally thought up by Dan and Tom, better known in the Halo community as the Ogres. The word Blain itself comes from the last name of the famous magician David Blain, who has on many occasions "Blained" the laws of physics and the limits of human anatomy. So to Blain is to perform a crushing victory in a situation in which defeat is almost certain.

A man of high quality in "MANY" different facets of life. The person posses many traits that resemble that of a heavenly figure. All characteristics possessed by a Blain can be either desirable or not.

The only thing I can see myself as in the whole name definition as Blain is probably to defeat or overcome an obstacle when the odds are against you as that is basically my whole life right there.

But does your name have something to do with you? Like Grace which I am sure means gracious, or maybe a name that means the patient one?

Lol. I'm pretty sure nothing significant can be said about a given individual by virtue of a mere name alone.

My name Connie means constant and dependable, which I have always been even as a child. I have at times viewed it as a curse in a sense more than a blessing. More often than not I have been the one everybody depended on, the one who had most of the responsibility on me. I had alot put on me because I was the oldest child, my ex took advantage of it and even told me you just seem like you can handle things so I don't worry about it. Of course alot of situations too numerous to go into. Now I'm a single mom with the responsibility of my three children. Some days I really long for somebody to take care of me! Of course I know God is, but I'm talking about another human who would stand in the gap for me.

My name says nothing about me - what church are you a member of?

The only name I have that identifies me is His name given to me. I am a Christian - I am Christ's. His name is written on my forehead.

Identifying yourself by a given name is much like astrology. Totally wrong.

Who cares.

Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Wow, you threw me for a loop with the "p" word....a little vulgar don't you think? And not even accurate.

Blain - an inflammatory swelling or sore. (Nothing noted in the dictionary about the region)

I believe he was writing something involving pus, not the other...

My name is Christian. It means 'little Christ' or 'follower of Christ'. Having such a name means I get all the silly and inappropriate jokes from people but it also has provided some great opportunities for opening up conversations about faith.

If I remember correctly it's in reference to Stephen, which is like crown? Or princess or something like that.

I was told for years that my birth name, Teresa meant "Harvester," as in a harvester of souls for the Lord. Sounds nice, huh? Well, I found out a few years ago it did not mean "harvester" at all but rather HARVESTED! It literally means ripped up (or torn) from the ground and replanted. I liked that definition better because to me it represents being taken from the world and replanted in Jesus Christ.

Even so, my friends and family call me by my nickname, Tess. :)

My name means God- beautiful (the norse gods that is), but has nothing to do with my personality, and I don't see why people think that names, date of birth etc affects it.

I have to agree that names don't hold as much meaning as one makes of it, unless the parent naming the child truly wants something that could suit for them in some way. Most just go by what they like best (assuming for first and middle names). I don't know what my mother was thinking about mine, personally.

But for Nikki, it's commonly a nickname for Nicole (and often gets mistaken for such) but it can also be a full name, which it is for me. The definition seems to vary, but from what I've seen it means: two trees, victorious, and recently found one that says it means 'Of the Lord'.

My middle name apparently means 'Defender of man'.

In Biblical times names were of importance, (Isaac-laughter) Doesn't it say in Revelation we'll get a white stone and get a new name?

I believe my name says something about my parents relation to the name they gave me, and not that much about me.
