Maybe next time try this. "Here is what I see" or "this is what I believe" or even "what do you think".

EG is correct that some here take that type of question first as a "you must listen to what I say" or "I know the truth and you dont" kind of statement.

Otherwise I think it is a very good post to study on.

Why do you believe Jesus said this, my friend?

If you noticed I said "I think it's a very good post to study on". So um that would mean I am going to study on it. If my study comes up with a relevant answer then I will post it. But, I think I'll actually study it deeper first. :)

Jesus was cursed and forsaken upon the tree so we his children would never have to be!( gal 3:11-14!!) It is why his last words were IT IS FINISHED! He was not talking about his life here,he was talking about what he and he alone has just fulfilled! ( matt 5:17)

Ah, I gotcha now. I misunderstood. God bless you in your study.

If I may offer a helpful suggestion, though: I believe the key verse to why Jesus quoted a Psalm of David (Psalm 22) when he was suffering was to be comforted to know in the Scriptures that God the Father did not hide his face from Him, and heard His cry, just as David had said in verse 24 in Psalm 22 (Psalm 22:24).

In other words, focus on verse 24 in Psalm 22. It is the key to understanding of why Jesus said what He did.

Yes, not only do I believe Jesus quoted Psalm 22 so as to give Him comfort, but I also believe Jesus said this as our substitute (So as to identify with man's feeling of separation from God), too.

For some folks go so far as to say that Christ was temporarily cut off from the Father. But that would be impossible because if that were to happen, then there would be more than one God within the universe. However, the Scriptures are very clear on the point that there is only one God.

To suggest otherwise is polytheism.

Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, which means that God manifest all His attributes to the man Christ Jesus, where the saints have partial attributes.

That means that the man Christ Jesus is God's personal human body and the way the invisible God will have a visible relationship with the saints, for the throne in heaven is the throne of both God and the Lamb,God in the glorified body of the man Christ Jesus.

That means that Jesus is fully God and fully man and when He spoke on earth He could either speak from His human side or His deity side.

Since Jesus is fully God and fully man and the man Christ Jesus is God's personal human body, the Father can never turn His back or forsake the man Christ Jesus.

Also the man Christ Jesus is sinless and is always sinless so the Father would never forsake Him.

Jesus said that the Father will never leave Him and the Father never left Jesus or turned His back on Him.

Since Jesus is fully God and fully man he can speak from both sides.

When Jesus was crucified the sins of the world was placed on Him for He was to take away the sins of the world,so the man Christ Jesus felt what it was like to be separate from the Father, but that was only in feeling because the sins of the world were placed upon Him,but not in reality because the Father never left Him and did not turn His back on Him.

Also if the Father turned His back on Him then He would have to do so the entire time the man Christ Jesus was on the cross, but later when Jesus was on the cross He said,Father in to your hands I commend My spirit and the Father accepted Him.

Jesus was speaking according to His human side when He felt separted from God because the sins of the world was placed upon Him,but that was only a feeling, for in reality the Father never left Him or turned His back on Him,and Jesus said the Father will never leave Him.

The Father can never turn His back on the man Christ Jesus because He is God manifest in the flesh, and the man Christ Jesus is sinless nothing wavering at all times.God would never have a reason to turn His back on His own humanity, but it was only a feeling that the man Christ Jesus had,but later He said Father in to your hands I commend My spirit.

At least this is what makes sense to me.

I don't believe Christ was going back and forth between a divine side and a human side as if He tapped into one or the other. I believe Christ's Omniscience (i.e. to have all knowledge) was merely suppressed during the Incarnation so as to be like a man (limited in knowledge) (Philippians 2:6-9). For Christ was that like figure (type) of Adam (Romans 5:14), and both Adam and Jesus were limited in knowledge as a part of God's design for a certain amount of time.

Jesus said and did everything the Father told him to say and do. Jesus always pleased his Father. So He could be like a man who served God perfectly so as to be our substitute. But Jesus was also God, too. Jesus said He was going to raise up his temple (body) three days later. Jesus said He had power to raise the dead to life just as the Father can raise the dead to life. Jesus said where two are three are gathered in his name, He is among them. Jesus held everything together by the word of his power when he purged us of our sins (Which would have been on the cross). Jesus had the power of God to forgive sin and provide eternal life to people. Jesus had the power to take away the sins of the entire world. Jesus received worship as God. Only God could do those things. So Jesus was not only just a man who was limited in knowledge, could feel pain, get tired, get hungry, etc. He also the Son of God who was Holy and perfect in everything He did. He quoted a Psalm of David (Psalm 22) not because He was speaking from some human side of Himself. The body was just a shell. For He said so Himself. It was a temple. Jesus was speaking as God but limited in knowledge because His divine attribute of Omniscience was suppressed in the Incarnation. When Christ had achieved His mission, there would have been no reason for Him not to have His Omniscience back. This mission was paying the penalty for sin on the cross, then conquering sin and death with his resurrection, then ascending to the Father (After He told Mary to touch Him not) so as to be our mediator and Heavenly High Priest.

Can anyone tell me why JESUS said this?

Mar_15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

The most obvious explanation is that the author of Mark did not perceive Jesus as God.

Jesus said this because He was sent here in the flesh to go through what we go through, so that we can see and know that we have a just Lord who sympathizes with what we go through.
He went through what we went through, and in a part of pretty much all believers life we have question God at one time or another for what He has done. And some have even felt at times they have been forgot about and left alone when hardships have arisen in their life.

Jesus asked in the garden to let this burden of taking on all man's sins off His shoulders, but if not then let His will be done. God did not take that burden away, so He said on the cross why have you forsaken me. In other words why have you left me to go through this. He wanted to show His human nature and sympathy for us by going through the same.

Well, most people think that when JESUS said that while HE was dying on the CROSS, that it was because GOD couldn't look at JESUS because HE had just taken on all the sins of the world, but this is not the case. In actuality, JESUS was teaching us, even while HE was dying on The CROSS!
One thing to notice is that JESUS never called FATHER GOD. HE always referred to HIM as FATHER.
Psalm 22 was written 1000 years before The Cruscifixion and it completely prophesied every detail of what happened when JESUS died on the CROSS, down to the very words of the chief priest and how the Roman soldiers would gamble for HIS clothing. It even described how HE would be pierced!

JESUS was teaching us Psalms 22 which prophesied of his Cruscifixion and all the details to exactness 1000 years before. And this HE did, even as HE was dying on The CROSS!

Psa_22:1 To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
Jesus Christ was sacrificed to save us from our sins.

The Bible tells us that “the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.” (Proverbs 4:18) The increasing light that God has shed on “the things revealed” shows that that “day” is getting closer and proves that his blessing is on the Christian congregation today. Even seemingly difficult to understand prophecies will be and are being made clearer with the help of God's spirit.

Do you mean to say that Jesus said those words only because it was in the Psalm and therefore He had to say it, but that the words were without meaning and that Jesus didn't really feel forsaken by God?

The most obvious explanation is that the author of Mark did not perceive Jesus as God.

Is there in truth no beauty? Don't you see it, my friend? I know why you can't. The answer is in what Captain Kirk said to Dr. Jones (the telepath) to snap her out of her jealousy of Spock. For with God you will be able to look at the text without atheist glasses that is holding you back in understanding God's Word. Accept Christ, and you will have that knowledge, my friend. Mark does allude to Jesus as God. It is subtle if you are careful to look for it. But you will only be able to do this after accepting Christ. But make no mistake, the beauty of Christ as God is indeed within the text. I can show it to you. But I know you will not want to see it, unless you believe Jesus Christ.

Hi Sealabeag,

What I mean to say is:

GOD is Supernatural. That means that HE is more natural than we. If we can feel sorrow, it likely means that HE can feel sorrow more intensely than we can.
JESUS is GOD, therefore HIS ability to feel is likely much more than what we can feel.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

As the gentleman above pointed out, JESUS knew that GOD had not forsaken HIM.

Psa 22:24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

Also, at any time, if JESUS wanted, HE could have stopped what was going on, but HE chose not to stop it. HE chose to suffer for us, HE chose to redeem us.

Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Mat 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

So, what I'm saying is that even though JESUS could likely feel more than we can feel and likely feel it more intensely than we, HE chose to suffer to pay the price for us.
HE chose to save us!

Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Now, if you look at Psalms 22, you will see that every detail of what happened on the CROSS is written, and it was written 1000 years before it came to pass.
If one of GOD'S children reads GOD'S WORD and realizes that man could not arrange for something to come true 1000 years after it is written, and to exact detail, even down to the very words that are spoken, then they are likely going to Believe. If they Believe, then they are likely to be Saved.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

HE did that for us! What love does it take for a Man to be in the process of dying, to be in the process of suffering, and quote a Psalm from 1000 years prior that was the very prophesy of HIS death?

It takes the Love of GOD. Yes, HE is Supernatural. HE can feel much more than we. We can likely not begin to know the depths of HIS Love for us!
