Why do Atheists Bother?

Verse 27, and I wonder, have you ever read bible prophecy? 1/3 of the bible is prophecy... If you can show one prophecy to be wrong you have disproved the God of the bible, but I am afraid you are going to see that its perfect....

I have such a low opinion of prophecy that I almost never give it consideration.

It is that easy to disprove? Maybe I should pay closer attention.

Let me give you an example of how easy it is to disprove a religion through prophecy.
Book of Mormon says that if anyone falsely prophecies then that person has never spoken as God.
Book of Mormon was written by Joseph Smith...
Joseph Smith said one of his followers was to be on a mission in the spring, but that winter during a battle he got shot and died, never to go on his mission. Joseph Smith prophesied in the 1800's that unless USA repents for what they have done to the Mormons that God would smite them and make Joseph Smith President... He died and USA has never repented... Joseph Smith said that his youngest son was to become next prophet directly after him... Jospeh Smith died before the child was 5, likewise Brigham Young became prophet, and his youngest son never did.... There are many more...
Joseph Smith wrote the book of mormon claiming he was speaking for God... But according to his own words, he was not... Thus Mormonism/LDS is not true and their god is fake.

This is perhaps convincing to someone who dislikes the Mormon faith, but why, if what you say is true, doesn't the Mormon temple close up shop? It is not so easy to convince a believer that their prophecies are false. What would it take to persuade you?

If you believe the Book of Mormon is true after being confronted with false prophecies, then you are willfully ignorant... Many Mormons are now Christian because of this, such as myself...

I was mormon as a child, then I became athesit, one day I came to the realization that there was a God and almost became mormon again, then I saw the false prophecies, and I saw none in the bible, hence why I am a Christian.


let me put it this way, I have been in the Mormon temple at Salt Lake... I was not just any mormon, I was baptized at 8 years of age... I was as mormon as they get...

There is a prophecy, I believe is false, that quotes a virgin birth in the Old Testament and attributes it to Jesus. I that right? Let's have a look at that one.
 
I'm a Christian and I have no issue with their billboards. You can't claim to love "freedom" and then complain when people do something that you don't like (that doesn't take away from your freedoms). They have just as much right to promote their agenda as Christians do. You can disagree with something (in this case their message) but still advocate for the right/ability for someone to exercise their freedoms (posting their message on a billboard).

If you cannot understand why an Atheist group would do this, you aren't utilizing critical thinking. It's easy to simplify it by saying they are miserable people who have nothing better to do, but I think that is ignorant and unfair to blanket it for all Atheists.

You are assuming that all view points are just as credible as the least....

If a person was to go around saying "raping small children is good" would they have just as much of a right to push that agenda as the person who says "raping small children is evil"?

You were as Mormon as they get? Just curious, did you take out your endowments? Did you serve a full-time mission? Did you get sealed to someone in the temple?

And many Christians are still becoming Mormons, such as a cousin of mine. She is quite a lovely person, but she has been hoodwinked.

I would love to see a more detailed account. Have you written one?

My first doubts came about age ten years and I was an atheist by age sixteen. How long did it take for you to lose your faith and become and atheist? How old were you when you became an atheist? How old were you when you nearly returned to your Mormon faith? Are your parents still Mormons?

Would you say that you became an atheist as a reflex action when you discovered the errors in the Book of Mormon?

I watched a talk by a woman, a former Mormon, who left the faith in her adult years. It was very, very, painful for her. Leaving one's faith is not an easy thing. It was difficult enough for me even though I didn't come from a terribly religious household.

What do you mean by "just as credible as the least"?

There are two answers to that question: What the law allows for (assuming the billboard company would even post it) and what my personal preference is pertaining to your hypothetical billboard.

I meant marriage sealing. One of the requirements to make it to the "top" of the "Celestial Kingdom". I was just curious because if you answered yes to all those questions, then I'd say you were as Mormon as it gets.

Atheist at around 13, around 18 found out that atheism is wrong... I was considering Buddhism and mormonism, began researching and found Christianity, i have not made an account...

My parents when I was 12 found errors in the Book of Mormon and just stopped going religiously, We went on and off again for a while but slowly everything stopped.

I would not say I became atheist after discovering errors in the book of mormon.

I was sealed with my family, in the Salt Lake city temple, I was only 8-9 at the time.

I was one of those children that the one Sunday every month we could bare a testimony I did... my mom begged me not to at times LOL

Colorful, welcome to the forum.

I am an atheist, but I have to admit that when I first heard of that atheist bus billboard I wondered what the point was. Also, I have no issue with representations of the manger scene at Christmas. I don't find expressions of Christian belief offensive and I love Christmas carols. :)
