this cuts both ways -- it's just as wrong to say the foolishness of FF5 is gospel music as it is to say the spiritual praise of HB is wickedness.

(some of you are going to have to look those bands up, sorry!)
Well I'm not inclined to look them up. I just continue to believe that this is all a bad testimony for Christ. The church is to change society to be like Christ not make the church like the heathen world.

Fortunately it doesn't take a genius to figure out that milk is better without the sour taste and lumpy texture. I will submit that you really must murder the verses that exhort us to abstain from all appearance of evil and to come out from among them and be separate unto the Lord to embrace this modern music genre.

the Psalms were 'modern' thousands of years ago when they were written, and all the pagan nations were playing lutes and lyres and cymbals and horns back then.

so... whatever that means.

In the modern vernacular that is lame. God breathed the Psalms and they were for worship in the presence of God. Often they were sung without instruments.

God is interested in the heart not the lips.

This is annoying... why does everyone bash contemporary christian music??? If the lyrics are glorifying God.. That's all that matters!! Get out of tradition ansd stop putting limits on God!! God can use ANY genre of music to got His message across!! I love Christian Metal.. Becoming the Archetype is my favorite.. Their music puts me in spirit of worship.. Many of thier songs talk about the absolute power of God. How dare you tell ANYONE how to worship God!! That's a control spirit.. and i rebuke that!
I a m not gong to tell you what you can or can not listen to. but the idea that it is just tradition is erroneous to say the least. how about you do some study on this subject of music and its effects.

People who were born and lived and died before your great great great grandfather understood the power of Music not just on an individual but on a whole country. You ask bouncers today and they will tell you which music makes people angry and so on and how it affects people.

you ask people in the advertising industry how music not lyrics but music can manipulate us.

Go study biology and the effects of different sounds and beats and how they can give life or kill us.

You may not care to study it but it is simply ignorance to claim its simply traditional people that go against different music styles.

Judge righteous judgment. Stop labeling certain kinds of music evil because of some kind of religious notion. OTOH, stop, being so ignorant of Satan's devices that you would condone some music because it has Christian lyrics. GROW UP and stop judging and limiting God and stop swallowing everything that is labeled "Christian".

in some ways I understand Jason's point. I haven't seen hardly any heavy metal or rap that I have really seen glorify God. BUT I DO NOT FOOliSHLY LABEL I
t ALL AS EvIL. God has taught me to bring all these things before Him and let Him tell me what spirit they are from. I have learned from experience that God is much bigger than we think and does not limit Himself to our preconceptions of righteousness. Nor do I foolishly condone some music because its sound seems more palatable. There are some artists I do stay away from -- Amy Grant's music, though pleasant to the ears and with some good lyrics, wreaks of compromise. Much of Southern Gospel music is littered with false doctrine and false comfort, with no true worship of God. But with all things, ASK GOD. Judging by preconceptions and trying to figure out what is righteous, will lead you astray. Only those who have learned to trust God for ALL things will survive the days ahead. The rest will be swept away.

I will not listen to music that has been inspired by the demons and that is what So called Christian rock is.

Even though there is nothing biblical to support this opinion you state as fact (hmm... just like i said always happens, opinions stated as fact).

Is there anything biblical to support jumping around sand acting a fool while singing songs to secular music that words have been changed to say Jesus? Who inspired it?

2 Samuel 6

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. [SUP]13 [/SUP]When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. [SUP]14 [/SUP]Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, [SUP]15 [/SUP]while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. [SUP]18 [/SUP]After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. [SUP]19 [/SUP]Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”
[SUP]21[/SUP]David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. [SUP]22 [/SUP]I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

Praising God is praising God no matter what style of music.

It's easy to condemn others when it's something we don't like but hard to see what might be wrong with ourselves.

Why did an old thread about metal get pulled up?

We are supposed to be bashing and defending Christmas carols for the month of December, and I trust everyone will remember that!

2 Samuel 6:16
Get off it seat! Make a joyful noise!
I hear a lot of "hymns" from the late 1800s to 1930s that are absolutely uninspired, puke-all-over, cheesy. Yet people cling to them out of tradition even though they have no edification or truth behind the lyrics. God is the Creator, not demons. Demons didn't invent a new style of music. Give credit where credit is due. Rock is not based on African tribal voodoo drums, but generally on Celtic folk music. Sure, jazz has some voodoo roots, but not blues, and definitely not rock. Syncopation of the 4/4 time signature into dotted 8th notes was a practice going back to the 5th century by written records (probably from much earlier), and "backbeat" is present in the Basso Continuo of nearly every major baroque composition. Then, go ahead and listen to Vivaldi and try to tell me that it isn't heavy metal. It is. Just different instruments.

Throw out your Twila Paris albums if Celtic music is inspired by demons. Throw out Amazing Grace, and 90% of your hymnbooks if Celtic music is inspired by demons.
If you don't like rock, don't listen to it. But don't try and cloud up someone else's conscience by saying it is inherently evil. That's weakness.

Also, God can redeem any style of music, just as He can redeem any soul.

I'm sorry, but in all good conscience I just can't agree that heavy metal, even with Christian lyrics is not sinful. It is angry, it is not self-controlled, it supports worldly themes that go against God- such as long hair on men, banging their head around, gothic style dress, it is not gentle, the extra fast beat raises blood pressure and is scientifically proven to cause heart problems including massive and deadly heart attaches. The loudness is rude, and rude is the opposite of love, and God is love so it is ungodly. If you are playing this in the hearing of someone who can't avoid it, and they develope heart problems, you are responsible. And to do such in the name of Christ?
