For me, only one thing, if something is credible or not credible: Is there evidence?
You dont understand faith. If you KNOW something 100%, then it is not faith.
This is coming from an ex-agnostic so please bear with me.
Faith is the METHOD for ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE of God.
When you invest faith, God responds by revealing proof and evidence which highly surpasses in assurance the mere faith that you invested in the beginning, and it is amazing.
Similar to how you have to invest experiments and testing to acquire scientific knowledge and find the sure ground.
And there are more methods to gaining knowledge than just left brain ones. To dismiss other epistemological methods is not very scientific, either.
If you want science-type of proof, you will not find it, except in law of probability and which details and prophecies about Jesus have been fulfilled, and their number.
God is qualitative, not quantitative. He cannot be measured. Science measures things which puts them into little boxes of what we know. God is infinite and a priori being, and therefore not an object of science or left-brain realization.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith
it is impossible to please
him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and
that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that
believe.
Everything created in this world points at intelligent design. Yet people did not choose to know God through it.
So this is how God chose it, the means to come to Him is faith. Not by big studies, not by high wisdom, not by being rich, not by being young or old, not by being good-looking, not by your own smarts, not by your own deads, not by "earning" to know Him, so everybody has equal chances. And it pleased Him so because God is not some force, He is a person too and has His own character. And one of His personal traits is that He is not a respecter of persons.
I can list to you every possible testimony. I can list to you overwhelming proof for messianic prophecy with book backups. If somebody doesnt want to believe, they will reject plain evidence.
Nobody can convince you, you have to bring that decision for yourself. Like one day I brought the decision to follow Him whether He was real or not: I believed. Then God showed me proof, even in retrospection.
I have found my old notes with the dreams I wrote down in the past while being an unbeliever as I could not understand them. When I have started reading the Bible as a believer, I found that I dreamt some detailed specifics from the Bible which were unknown to me at the time because I didnt even have one and have I known this from the Bible I'd be able to understand the dreams, but I didnt and God led me to write it down. The dreams also spoke about my spiritual state back at the day accurately.
Sowing faith, reaping assurance and evidence.
But that even might be the least of assurances which He gave to me.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that
were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Jesus is firstly a historical person. And I used to think with my left brain about His words and go logically. So when you read the words He wrote, there are 3 possible options. One is that He was utterly crazy. Another is that He was a con artist. Third is that He was who He claimed to be.
The second one can immediately be rejected. Tell me Jesus was crazy, but dont you ever tell me He was just some calculated man. Because He wasnt. Con artists seek their own glory, they do not reject praise of men and do not reject offers to become kings. And oh yes they love money when Jesus didnt even have two pairs of sandals.
Then think about the first one, was He crazy? I do not think so. He never attempted to control anybody or force people do things. A crazy person or a religious fanatic would try to exercize control in order to maintain their cult. However, Jesus displays spiritually and emotionally healthy behaviors, as described by any psychologist. He does not hate His enemies, He does not judge, He does not avoid responsibilities, He is disciplined but also has healthy balance and knows when to relax, He does not submit to society standard and instead of pleasing people He chooses to do the right thing. Cultic lunatics do not act in this healthy way.
Then we have the only last possible option, that He really was who He claimed to be. Some have issue with Him wanting to be put first by His followers, but if He was who He claimed to be, then this is understandable and reasonable. He wanted genuine love and righteousness always to be put before what people say.
I suggest you start reading the Gospels. Just read them.
I believe it will do you good.
God Bless
