melita, you said, tutoring and uno, and suddenly i remembered the year i tutored a fellow high school student.

Sergio was from Argentina and in my Spanish class, and i was hired to help him with his English.

(yes, dear readers, even with my capitalization handicap. it's er, it's a style choice, like e.e. cummings.
oh, and a laziness issue...what? i'm gonna keep hitting the shift key??
)

but with Sergio, what really happened was he helped me more with Spanish than i ever helped him.
he even threw a contest in class my way once...hope you're having a great life, Sergio! :)

Jacob's too humble to come out and tell you a phlebotomist
for people is that vampire type person who sticks a needle in your vein
and draws out a vial (or more) of your blood. :)

must be tough on a horse...or would it be easier because their veins are larger?

Jacob?

The jugular vein on a horse is massive so it is difficult to miss even when the needles are big, about half the diameter of a #2 pencil. Most horses were pretty easy to stick but Arabians and Thoroughbreds were a pain. Their veins were thin walled and liked to roll around alot.

We would draw 8 liters of blood from an average sized horse, and we drew it out with the assistance of a vacuum pump, non of this letting it flow out under its own pressure.

Of course, it was always scary when we were working with expensive show horses, my boss would get very serious and warn me to be very careful. On the other end of the spectrum, we would somtimes have to draw blood from half wild horses. It was always exciting when one of these horses would blow up in the middle of a draw, equipment would go flying and on occasion Jacob to :)

I was 16 and couldn't wait to "grow up" and make my own money ... so I started at Mc Donalds and a Greek restaurant as a waitress.

Lol, that brings not so good memories to mind. Some of the rascals when I grew up were self appointed Water Moccasin (Cotton Mouth) hunters, and were spending all their time in the swamp. Unfortunately, the Water Moccasin, even if it is slow as a frozen garden hose, is meaner than a rattlesnake, and one day, of course, there were casualties. The whole bunch came screaming outta the swamp carrying their wounded friend. He was on his knees in pain, with the snake in his hand, it was dead of course. Turned out he was bitten in the arm. Spent days in bed and they say it took him months to fully recover. So, staying close to jaybird88 isnt enough, you have to make him carry you around;) the farm.

I had this crazy cousin from Mississippi that had a funny job, he was a professional tree climber. his name was Marcel Leadbetter. I bet you know him.
