It has come to my attention when discussions about living righteous comes up (obeying God's Word/Laws) people call this living under the Law. If God says we have to live a certian way to be his child and this lifestyle is promoted how can this be called legalism or works based salvation and not grace? I think its time we learn what law and grace really mean. Living by a works based salvation simply means you don't need the sacrifice of Jesus but by your own works of doing good will get you to heaven. Living by grace means you have received Jesus as your sacrifice for sin yet you live to please him by obeying his Word/Laws.
I speak a lot of times concerning the kingdom of God and all kingdoms have laws (rules and regulations) that must be obeyed. If there is no law in place or enforced then there is anarchy (a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority or lack of obedience to authority). As for Grace I see it as unmerrited favor and the removal of immediate punishment for disobedience (mercy- an act of kindness, compassion or favor). Please chime in with your thoughts on this subject.
For by grace ye are saved through faith, not of yourselfs, it is a gift from God. Not of works least any man should boast. Eph 2:8-9
Hereby we know that we know him if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.1 John 2:3-5
