When I read the SDA belief statement, it is clear that they (atleast outwardly) try to seperate themselves as much as possible from EW. She is mentioned nowhere. You think a prophet who started the only "remnant" church, would be central to the belief statement. But all the beliefs point directly to various scriptures for support. So why then is she so pushed within the SDA church?
How do you know she is pushed so in the SDA church? Do you attend one and see this? To the contrary, many churches are
moving away from her testimony. Not wanting to have to defend the scriptures and her writings as well. Not that this is right or wrong, it is just happening. Some though are also abandoning biblical and prophetic truths that she maintained, this is of course not good. they are beginning to go the way of the rest of Protestantism which has rejected the prophetic testimony of their founding fathers regarding the Church of Rome, and her central role in last day events. I attended a church that maintained a complete de-emphasis upon biblical prophecy for full three years. This from a church founded upon biblical prophecy, with the commission to give the three angels messages of Revelation 14 to this world.

There have been many posts over the last 24 hours, too many to answer, sorry I don't have that sort of time.

I will say something though that many here seem to miss.

I am of the full opinion that everything I believe as a seventh Day Adventist is of the Bible. I came to my Beliefs From study of the Bible not Ellen White. While I do believe she was a prophet of God, She did not give me my views of the bible. In Fact I came to the Adventist beliefs of the bible before becoming an SDA and before I read anything form Ellen White.

If you were smart you would realize that debating Ellen white is fruitless.

Lets just imagine Ellen White is a false prophet for a second and that you prove this to be the case.

What have you gained? I get my belief from the bible so you have swayed me none. and your refusal to address the scriptures on what we believe suggests that your goal has nothing to do with my soul.

The very first post says lets keep it bible. It is your pride that stops you from conforming to this simple guideline. If you want to speak about Ellen White start your own thread.

Think about this, All Faith and truth comes from the bible. We believe the bible teaches something different to what you believe.

But If we are right and you are wrong then you will Judge Ellen white falsely by false beliefs. Thus disregard the truth by your own error.

So then the bible is the core of the truth, If your views hold any weight then you would need never use Ellen White to make your point but rather the bible. Just as you Don't see SDA's trying to prove their points by quoting Ellen White.

Your prideful persistence in using Ellen White to bash this thread shows that you are not hear for the purpose of this thread, and you are not here to help any SDA see what you believe to be truth. and you are not hear to understand our teachings. so why are you hear?

I will not be answering such posts any more, it is fruitless and outside the purpose of this thread.

I know some of you like to quote the title and then say what you feel it means, but you did not start this thread, read the first post that explains the purpose. If you don't like it then drop your pride of heart and don't come on this thread.
Well, her legitimacy as a prophet is very important to me. Obviously good arguments for Sabbath keeping and Michael being Jesus can be made on both sides. The whole tipping point to these arguments is dependent upon whether or not EW was indeed a true prophet of God. If it is provable that she is, that would certainly carry some weight to believe one way or the other, would it not? If you did not believe she was a prophet, then she would just be another person with an opinion. I've looked at the arguments for Sabbath keeping and Michael and without EW being a prophet, my conclusion is that the evidence points more towards the traditional Christian view. (especially in the case of Michael)

Can you tell me about her prophecy of end time?
The book The Great Controversy is good read for the history of Christianity and end time events and a smaller book Early Writings also has a lot of the End time events.

You can probably look these up online and not even have to buy the books.

I don't know, I think this marks the end of my involvement here for the time being. If anyone wants to respond to my earlier posts, then I thank you and look forward to your insights. Otherwise, I feel like I am just trying to prove that you guys are wrong. When the reality is, I have my own questions about the legitimacy of EW and figured you guys would be the ones who could answer those questions for me.
You won't specify what it is you want to know. Why do you doubt her, when it appears you have no specifics to doubt?

It's like this...America was founded on the best principles that mankind could organize at the time into a functioning govt. Was it perfect? Obviously not because there was still slavery and a whole host of not so great things.........so do we throw out the whole thing? That is what some of you are suggesting that people in the SDA do. Pretty nonsensical to me.

All good points. The pace here is beyond keeping up with. Maybe that's the whole point.

It was beyond a simple bible study, God directly answered the prayers of those involved by providing light upon the subject under examination through a vision. If you want to deny this is possible go for it, it will not change the fact that God does do such things. Just saying the thing happened is no proof or evidence that it is untrue. Prove the conclusions drawn from the visions wrong by scripture, and then you will prove something. The gift of prophecy is real, a false prophet is proved false by scripture or prophetic utterence that does not come true. Of course, many biblical prophecies have not come true yet either, but this does not make them false, just unfulfilled as yet.
Look none of what this lady foretold came true...in fact it seem every attempt she made to real prophecy has been shown to be a complete error...so how can she possibly be a prophet? The more pressing question is how can you and folks like you continue to defend what is clearly a big con job?

In 1850 Sister White tells us what her angel told her:
"My accompanying angel said, 'Time is almost finished. Get ready, get ready, get ready.' . . . now time is almost finished. . . and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months." (Early Writings, pp. 64-67)

Over and over again this lady predicted the end of time...just a Miller did! How can anyone accept she is a prophet of the Lord God Almighty?

Biblical prophecy comes from God, not people. The facts established throughout history either support ones interpretations or they do not. Her interpretations of biblical prophecy are built upon a continuation of that established by the Reformers. Much of what we believe was believed by Protestants long before us. Our prophecies continue where the Reformers left off. She had much to say about the end times in which we are living. Is there anything in particular you want to here about?

Col 2:16 ¶ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

There is NO traditional Protestant bible teachers that would anyway associate what the Reformers taught to the teachings of Ellen G White...In fact she is held as the example of a false teacher to almost all traditional Protestant groups.

Because she claims to be speaking for God and is basically saying that I am in rebellion to God for not keeping the Saturday Sabbath. And someone mentioned earlier that those who were ignorant of Sabbath keeping would be spared on judgement day, but guess what? I can't claim to be ignorant now, I have read and understood what you are saying. You are saying that despite everything else in my Christian walk, I (and everyone else I know ) am bound for hellfire. So maybe that is why I am persistent in trying to figure out if this woman is of God or not. Because I look at the arguments and I see where you are coming from, but the Bible alone doesn't completely prove to me your position.

You believe she is a true prophet, so the burden of proof is on you. To convince me of this, I am as open to hearing what you have to say on her as is possible. If I look for myself, all I find is the titles "False Prophet" "failed prophecies" "teachings which contradict the Bible"

"I have seen that the 1843 chart (Wm. Miller's) was directed by the hand of the Lord and that it should not be altered, that the figures were as he wanted them." EARLY WRITINGS p. 64 edition 1882 ..... EGW claims God told her that Wm Millers false endtime prophecies where true!

I think you don't provide any context, because you don't know any. Your accusations and arguments probably aren't even yours. When or if you actually want to discuss this or that issue, I mean like with real back and forth, let me know. We are and have been living in the last days for quite some time now. The second coming of Jesus Christ is contingent to a certain degree upon Christians fulfilling Christ's commission to them. This is the context of what EGW was talking about.

Mt 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The longer Christians dilly dally with this commission, the longer the coming of Christ will be delayed, up to a certain point I would imagine. Noah preached the end for 120 years the first time, no doubt the Lord will allow for more time this second and final time.

I can keep posting her false predictions...the only problem is there are so many to chose from....but I wonder if you would admit anything contrary to what the SDA has told you to believe?

Finally, Mrs. White concluded a 10-year string of failures predicting the return of Christ with a notorious statement that, unlike the previous failures, got widespread attention. She made this statement at a church conference in 1856 and it received notoriety because it was published in her "Testimonies to the Church" and many church members read it. Mrs. White describes her "vision":
"I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: 'Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus.'" Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 131

I have read her writings extensively, and have concluded she was a prophetess of God.
Did Ellen White use channeling (a form of spiritualism) to induce a trance when prophesying her visions like Edgar Cayce, the damsel "possessed with a spirit of divination" in Acts 16:16, or any other physic?

"Cayce's methods involved lying down and entering into a sleep state, usually at the request of a subject who was seeking help with health or other personal problems. Subjects would not normally be present, and their questions would be given to Cayce, who would then proceed with a reading. Initial readings dealt primarily with the physical health of the individual; later readings might be given on past lives, business advice, dream interpretation, and mental or spiritual health."

"During seances, mediums are said to go into trances, varying from light to deep, that permit spirits to control their minds.[SUP][7][/SUP]
Channeling can be seen as the modern form of the old mediumship, where the "channel" (or channeller) allegedly receives messages from "teaching-spirit", an "Ascended Master", from God, or from an angelic entity, but essentially through the filter of his own waking consciousness (or "Higher Self").[SUP][8][/SUP][SUP][9]"[/SUP]

During your extensive reading of E.G's writings did you find some of her failed prophecies?,.......

Did Jesus will return in June, 1845?
Did Jesus will return in September, 1845?
Did some at the 1856 Conference see Jesus return?
Did SlaveryRevive in the South?

If you did....... how can you dismiss her failed prophecies and continue to believe that she was trully a prophetess from God?
