You're not going to like my answer.

I think that God can make good come from bad but he won't MAKE bad things happen to you.

As for my answer, I think it would have been better for you not to have been abused and to have come to Christ despite being loved and confident. You can seek him when you are loved and confident ya know....

I know what you were getting at but abuse is one of those things that is PURE EVIL.

I'm not offended by your disagreement, but I never said God MADE it happen Sis... But He doesnt prevent free choice...
He just does the best possible thing with the bad which He did not put in there...
So yeah no evil in the world is ideal situation of course, but we can talk ideal world (which is to come) and we can talk realistic world with free will that we are in. We are here only to choose. God doesnt put as much importance on the temporal world as we do.

Totally right JF.
Just because God can bring good from bad doesn't make the bad good. Err... yep. That's right haha.

Ok new question: what is a "trial"? Would something like rape be considered a trial? If so are we to find joy in it? Or are trials more minuscule like a friend stabbing you in the back?

Also why would God send those things in to a person's life if he is a good God? I think hurt and bad things come from free will and sin and satan, not God. But I still don't understand those verses because God isn't bad...ya know? And nothing bad can come from him...

God does not send bad things that happen to a person, but He allows it to happen.
We have our free will that God gave us to listen, trust, and obey Him to get us through all things. With that being said I would place rape as you mentioned as more of a tribulation then a trial, as the many of troubles and trust issues it can bring in one's life. But if trust is kept in Him, then He will guide you and make you stronger after enduring such a terrible thing in life.
A trial to me would still be bad, upsetting, and anything that puts a strain on your life leading you to second guess, doubt, and even have trust issues as well. Like a financial down fall in one's life could be their trial, as they use to live good and now have to figure how to survive with little to nothing coming in. Yet once again if you put your faith in Him, He will work through others to help you through those tough times.

Ooooh! I see what you are saying now!

Ok I get it. When people say "God allows bad things to happen" it confuses me because I picture him in a recliner in heaven looking down on the chaos of the world being like, "oh look another mass murder. Oh well."

I understand that he allows for free will. That makes more sense. :-)

Satan had to have permission, and God knew Job and the outcome for him in the end.

The trial is not the joy, it is what it works in us if we are humble and thankful. I would not be the person I am (though of course very not perfect) if I had not gone through what I have in my life. I wouldn't choose to go through any of it but am grateful for what it has worked in me. I also would not know God in the ways I do if I had not relied on Him as I have to get through the trials.

Not many are mature enough to understand the difference between a trial in the life of a Christian which God uses to refine and make more pure for service to Him and chastisement when a believer sins.

Example of a trial might be you are diagnosed with terminal cancer. You have an expectation of pain and suffering as a result of the cancer. You give the cancer to God and look forward to the day when you are released from the physical body into His blessed presence. Joy in the suffering because of a certain belief in the blessings to follow.

Chastisement best illustrated in 1 Corinthians 5. Unrepentant sin resulting in physical distress. Joy when the soul is brought back into fellowship with Christ sin confessed and repented of so the relationship is restored.

Difficult subject but God works to draw us closer to Him and reveals our greater need of Him. The diabolical one is always too happy to cause distress among Gods people that he might disgrace God. Gods strength is perfected in our weakness and Gods grace is always sufficient for us.

But I still don't understand those verses because God isn't bad...ya know? And nothing bad can come from him...

God is good, but God can create evil in order to fulfill his righteous indignation and wrath upon an ungodly world.

Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."

God created light, and saw it was good.
He separated it from the darkness (the word there means "sancified")
And then He labeled them.

Did God "create" darkness? In a sense, as He separated the light from it,
but darkness is actually the lack of His creation. It is all things that are not of God.
God created order, and from that order, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

The opposite of order is chaos. God created order, and everything that is not of God is chaos.
God created good, and everything that is not of God is evil.

God is the only thing that has no equal or opposite, because He is the originator.
The only thing comparable to the "opposite" of God is His own denial of His presence: being separated from God.

God has a plan to re-seperate light from darkness, and Christ is the Way.
God allows evil for this time, for His own purpose, to His Glory, to display Himself to us in His fullness.

According to the Word, there was another way... but all humans, except for Christ, failed it and destroyed it.

God started by separating the light from darkness, making a nice neat palate to paint from.
But mankind, and their sin, is what mixed up the paint.
For now, He uses even the dark colors to paint His masterpiece, and it will be beautiful in the end... even though we can not see all of it's beauty in the present.
Have you ever read a "good" story that had no conflict? I haven't.

In the case of Job, as with many of the Lords prophets and saints they were given to us as a sign, or as an example of how things would be on this earth, even Jesus was for a sign.

Isaiah 8:18 "Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

In this world God's children would suffer many trials and tribulations at the hands of evil, and evil men who are of their father the devil. But Satan can only do what God allows him to do, as was in the case of Job. Even so God cast down Satan to the earth as part of God's judgment upon this world, as Jesus declared "now is the judgment of this world."

And we at present are still suffering that judgment at the hands of evil, in an evil and unjust world, being afflicted like Job.

But what was the end result of Jobs story? Job 42:10 "And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before."

And that is the message to us if we endure the fiery trials, tribulations, afflictions, mocking, and shame the world would inflict on us because of our faith.
Isaiah 61:7
For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.
