I am sure you're not saying we shouldnt mention sin.I can give a load of NT verses to the contrary. How can one know they are in sin if we dont mention the S word. Now if you are saying preach the truth in love,I get that. But to soft soap the message of the gospel is wrong. We are sinners,we need to know it,admit it,repent and sin no more.Simple message.Never changed since Jesus preached it.
Did you get saved by fear or goodness?

Yes but I like to focus on my own sin and in doing so allow them to draw their own conclusions based on that about their own.

Do you really believe people don't know what sin is? On some level if we didn't know we could never have been held accountable in the first place.

Can you please explain what you mean by, "it's the acts that are sin, "NOT BEING GAY"?
Does that mean that some are born gay and lesbian?

People do not recognize they are sinners, no. They look at ISIS or the murderer and rapist on TV and those people are sinners. They could never be so bad, could they? People have to come to a recognition of their own sin for what it is, an affront to a holy and perfect God, or salvation and repentance is not possible.

So recently God jas been giving me this compassion for gay people. He has been leading me to videos, showing me how gay people can feel hopless and lonley in the church. I wanna start a civil discussion on how we can encourage our gay brothers and sisters. I also wanna talk about respectful and kind ways of reaching out to gay people who haven't found Christ.

RULES:

1) this is not an anti-gay thread. We all know same sex sex is a sin. This is an encouragement/loving discussion on hpw we can better serve gay people so no being mean.

2) not only should we respect gay people on here but also each other because this IS a sensitive topic and I think it needs to be handled with care.

I wanna say thank you in advance for taking part in this. :)

if you have to, maybe pray before posting. :)

Thanks!

now do you realize it's better to ask God yourself and figure this out on your own? I don't think your going to get any good answer here. As well intentioned as your past was...

How can God hold them accountable if they do not know? That flies in the face of Romans 1 and the human conscience. If your going to go all Bible thumper on me here. Now do they know how to get around the problem of human nature? No. But if they are honest they know that they aren't perfect and mess up everyday, so they know on some level there is some standard.

I think people just get addicted to unhealthy ways of getting oxytocin in their brain. Any kind of sexual deviancy will do that. God meant it for in the context of marriage between man and woman. Satan took something God made that is good and twisted it to devour peoples souls.

Did you get saved by fear or goodness?

To fear the Lord is wisdom,so says the Word. When someone is presented the choice of dying in sin or accepting Christ as their sacrifice I'd say a healthy amount of fear goes into that decision, understanding the consequence of our sins.My land, I dont know how people would survive today if we had preachers like those who preached during the Great Awakening!! Read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards and get back to me about whether fear or goodness gets one saved.

I once visited a Church regularly here in South Africa. The Pastor one day said he would rather have homosexuals in his Church and he'll start going out on the street bringing them into his Church.
The late Evangelist Ronnie Ontong came from the States having Revival services at a Pentecostal Church.
When an altar call was made, the Pastor of the Church could believe how gays & lesbians as in his Church.
It started with one being perverted.

My father is an evangelist. One night as he was speaking he left his notes and began to preach against homosexuality. Not in a nasty way, simply preaching the Word.We wondered why he derailed his sermon to preach that. After the service a young man came to the alter and said "I didnt know I was doing wrong.I was in a homosexual relationship but tonight I'm giving it up and giving my heart to Christ". So yes,I really believe people dont know what sin is.Especially if you're not raised around church and church people.Just because the church has watered down the truth to make it palatable doesn't mean thats what the disciples did. They weren't afraid to use the word sin.

I have to choose not be attracted to "women" and only be attracted to A "woman.
Let us be honest with ourselves. If you are watching TV or outside, and an attractive woman walks past, you won't be attracted to her???

Tge only "choice" in it is whether to act upon it or not. My attraction to women wasn't taught to me. I just liked them. The particulars about what I like was taught. Big, small, thick, skinny, etc.

Dont recall saying that.I'm saying people are not always aware of their sin. That is why we were commissioned to preach the Gospel. If everyone already knew they were sinners why did Jesus send out the disciples out to tell people to repent and sin no more?

I can choose to turn away. Joseph ran hard and fast, away from potiphars wife. Job also made a covenant with his eyes.

I could careless what Jonathan Edwards says....because

The Bible plainly tells you in Romans 2.4 that sinners come to repentance based on God's goodness not his anger towards their SIN. How can a lost person know what Fear of the Lord is until they have repented and then begin renewing their minds?

Is the Fear mentioned in Proverbs, God's judgement or a reverence for God, because he is all powerful?

We are saved by grace not fear of what he will do to us if we decide we don't want Jesus. Eph 2.8-9 confirms this.

We would you tell people you are saved by FEAR of the Lord? maybe because you have no understanding of Grace..
