What you fail to understand is the context which that is made in (Galatians) they were teaching that a man is justified by faith and works.....they had begun in the SPIRIT and are made complete by the works of the flesh (LAW) (CIRCUMCISION)
PAUL tells them that if the RESORT BACK TO THE LAW that CHRIST is become of no affect to THEM...WHAT YOU MISS and fail to see is that it is either FAITH or it is WORKS and if you say WORKS then the work that CHRIST has done is of NO AFFECT to YOU....That is what you fail to understand and miss........!

The context in Galatians is about justification by Christ or justification by the law, and he does not say if they go back.
He speaks of as they already went back to being justified by the law, and he even calls them bewitched and foolish for going back to those ways. Then he calls them out and says they are not obeying the truth. They would be still obeying the truth if they had not yet gone back to the law yet. He is warning them to repent and turn back to the truth, not warning them before they turn to the law. All scripture in Galatians points to they already have turned away from Christ to the law, not that they are thinking about it.
