Sometimes Christians are our own worst enemies and the enemies of Christ. I have heard so many atheists quote other Christians and their unchristian-like manner as one of their biggest reasons for not wanting to become one themselves. We drive people away by our behaviour! Browse the forums and in particular the Bible discussion forum and you will find it difficult to find the love of Christ. Shouldn't we all be praying for the Holy Spirit to guide us in love before we post?

Many times (in the short time I have been a member here) I have considered leaving this forum because I'm sick of reading brittle posts by those who love to tell others that they know best and the other is in error - instead of agreeing to disagree. Oh how we love to lord it over the other! I know there are some who would love me to carry out my threat and leave but the thing that stops me is an equal supply of the other kind of Christian - I could run off a dozen usernames without even stopping to think of those who's posts bless me daily so I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet - but I understand why others do.

I didn't expect all this angst upon joining Christian forum - I expected to encounter the love of Jesus...sorry needed to vent!

I myself have considered leaving here recently for the same reason. but to what you said, as one of the people who has been in those arguments, many people do not show or the have the love of Christ. my pastor said recently that how you see God is shown in how you treat others. if you see a hard, demanding, checklist God, then you demand others keep your list so they can be saved, as this as how they see salvation. if you are not keeping the list, then you are lost, deceived, false teacher, etc.. those of us who believe in a grace salvation see a loving, kind father, who does expect right living and personal holiness, but will not burn us in hell if we stumble but will restore and help us overcome our sin if we turn to him. hope this helps you, as this is what I see in those arguments.

Yes, I've noticed some negative influence in my own thinking that i have picked up from here. When i first joined i did learn a lot, though. Was able to clear a lot up about what i did and didn't believe. But now i find myself repeating what i see, though i've been working at trying to stop. Sometimes i consider quitting, but then, as Mad said, there are good people here as well.

I have never seen anything ugly posted by yourself...erm Ugly - you really must change your name because you aren't!

Sometimes I feel down and uneasy when I leave here so I don't come back for day or two but I always get sucked back in hehe but I too am also guilty of posting not so nice replies from time to time.

Those are not christians...

[SUP]16 [/SUP]By their FRUIT you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? [SUP]17 [/SUP]Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. [SUP]18 [/SUP]A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. [SUP]19 [/SUP]Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. [SUP]20 [/SUP]Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

(Matthew 7: 16-19 / NIV)

[SUP]22 [/SUP]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [SUP]23 [/SUP]gentleness and self-control...

(Galatians 5:22-23 / NIV)

In that sense sometimes I can be a 'rotten' christian too, but at least I admit it.
(Simul justus et peccator)

Oh. I have haha. I've gotten in my fair share of trouble on here, but like i said, i'm trying to get away from that. One thing i've found useful is to never give more than two responses to any argumentative response. Let them have the last word and just walk away. Has helped me out numerous times to stick by that rule.

And Ugly is just a fun name to make people laugh.

Yeah I had to walk away today , it was more than 2 posts though so maybe I aught to take up your rule.

I would try to refrain from partaking the conversation if I know where it'll lead to. There's no sense on trying to shove anything or tell a person that they are wrong while claiming to be right while belittling the subject or the person itself.

Admitting, I've been contemplating as to whether or not I want to stay. It's more reasons than just that, though. But I find that if I really want to get information about anything, the last thing is to ask other Christians... I'm sorry to say.

Sometimes it's best to private message someone you trust - I have found this. :)

To MadParrotWoman's original post,

Peace be to you

In the bible discussion area it can get heated but it is that way everywhere, but that is actually lesso here. If you cant take it here you will not be able to go anywhere else where its ten times what is here. This is one of the better places.

What would loving Jesus look like in a bible discussions forum in the face of error or heresy?

Athiests enjoy provoking christians.

And even Moses was provoked and spake unadvisably with his lips didnt he?

It says love isnt "easily" provoked but it doesnt say its beyond being so.

And athiests have a bunch of snippets of christians cracking under their own provocation.

Not saying the christian isnt at fault, but its often with more then a little help from the otherside of things.

I recall we were posting along with them once, and these athiests had a forum where they hung out and where they expressed their intention. And their intention (as a group) was to invade this certain other christian forum (we were at) and give us a hard time.

They never made their forum "private" so you could read what they were going to do (as it was going down) and they were "playing innocent" (but that was far from the case).

Athiests dont believe in the existence of God (at all) and that is why they have trouble with the acceptance of a Son of Him.

But I dont think it what you brought up has much to do with the other.

Besides, how can you believe in the Son of a God you dont believe exists?

And how can a christian not buckling at their purposeful provocation changed their minds concerning the Son of a non existent God?

I never understood how that works.

But I agree that we could all be kinder to one another at times before things get heated, but it will still happen and that can be somewhat expected to some extent.

And forgiveness is just as much a part of love.

And forgiveness is needed towards wrongs suffered (including what goes on in debate).

One of the best features of most boards (for your own sanity) is the ignore button, that is actually helpful, the whole tone of the board changes as those you might not be able to endure are secretly silenced.

Try that though, if just for your own sanitys sake.

God bless you

Actually that ignore button looks a good bet - I hadn't thought of that!
