What sort of hitting are you talking about maddog, a girly slap, wooden spoon, proper punch, knee to the stomach, judo throw?

Something that causes no lasting injury (eg. the open handed strike as James Bond does with his women). Before now, I've suggested it should be the physical equivalent of shouting at them, especially when it is deemed that that physical contact will do more good than getting into a shouting match.

What do you mean? There are some things that one must not do - that one is morally bound to resist - even if it is requested by an authority.

but if a man is allowed to beat his wife, it is HE who decides when/ why to beat her.... so maybe he will beat her for doing something she was right to do according to God...

No, that was simply a convenient example of the kind of hitting I'm talking about (ie. one not intended to cause any injury or lasting pain).

I explained my reasoning for my views earlier in the thread.

Ok, so you dont hit her when she deserves it & you dont hit her when she doesnt deserve it. so i guess we are agreed then that you dont hit her. So thankful that you've finally come around!! Perhaps you will be blessed with a long lasting marriage after all! Goes to show you there is hope for these forums that sometimes others input does change minds... Praise the Lord for softening your heart!

In the name of discipline? Generally, no as I don't think that's her role, though I'm hesitant to rule it out completely because there's always some kind of extenuating circumstances that may justify it.
