Thats okay, this was a bad idea to ask
I just cant drive to pick it up for myself and I need some help to write what my husband needs to know (so he will make a better purchase) or what I need to know.
I just ran with your reccomendation, it seemed to have higher reviews
I would like to purchase something tonight if doing so online is all, if not I have to hand something to my husband so he can pick it up for me, thats all.

You seem to have a preference for widescreens, and you seem to prefer amazon over ebay... have you looked at Asus?

There are some Asus laptops with Windows 7 and widescreen. Asus is generally reliable hardware. And the screens are usually brighter than most thinkpads.

Sorry Lynx, Im just irritable, not feeling up to the task, a bit rushed, and just fustrated at trying to make an educated decision on one of these things.
No I hadnt, thnk you. Largeness of screen is good I have bad eyesight, brightness is not so important though. I'll look at these then,

I... have no idea about the ratings. With that page of Asus I have strayed into unfamiliar ground, as I only have one Asus laptop and I don't go for widescreens in general. The Asus I have is a great little machine, the best in my current lineup, and Asus in general enjoys a good reputation for reliability. But I've never tried any of those specific Asus laptops. I threw it out based on your stated preferences and based on the fact that Asus is a reliable brand with laptops that are a bit better looking than Thinkpads, but I know little about those specific laptops.

lots of bad experience with desktops. my son's laptop is a Dell (i didn't have any input in that) and it's been fritzy too.
i got a "desktop-replacement" laptop a couple years ago. it came down to HP vs. Lenovo for me; from what i read and experienced they are two top brands. i needed a lot of processing power and was looking for durability and a full keyboard/numberpad. wanted to stay away from Mac's because some softwares i have to use have compatibility problems.
i got an HP, a pretty expensive one; it had all i needed and was a little cheaper and i think a little better build quality for a similar Lenovo. i built what i wanted through HP's website rather than get an off-the-shelf model. i called to ask some questions and a salesman offered me a very large discount if i would be willing to buy it over the phone - i ended up saving well over a thousand bucks! this is an high-end model tho, that was necessary for some things i had to do for work, and i think they were willing to make price cuts to sell their top-of-the-line stuff. depending on what you need to do with a laptop, you don't need to spend anywhere near what i did to get every capable machine.
the only complaint i have is that the battery is only good for about 2-3 hours when i'm making a lot of use of it, but i expected that.

Mac is actually pretty good - for normal people who have a lot of money. For getting online, checking facebook, checking the forum, checking email, watching a youtube video - you know, all the stuff normal people do with computers - mac is good. And it's pretty reliable. Macs don't break down nearly as often as HP, Acer and the other junk Walmart has.
On the downside Macs are limited in capabilities for power users. If you want a program that does X job, you are more likely to find the perfect program for your needs with a PC than with a Mac. Normal people don't have to worry about this, but someone who is using a computer for a high-end work computer might. And Macs are inordinately expensive.
Having said that... when a missionary goes out to a country without good tech support, I'm always glad when he's carrying along a Mac. If God called me to go to a place where I couldn't get Ebay or amazon.com delivery, I might want a Mac too. Or a Thinkpad. Either is a good reliable choice.

Now a good Toshiba Tecra, I could use one of them right now in a project I'm running...
Oh, that reminds me. Any laptop you get for a really low price on Black Friday is going to be a lemon. There's a reason they are selling them so cheap. I can't count how many friends have asked me to fix computers they got on Black Friday.
