It looks as though they're installing 7 for you upon your order/request, but the laptop must have initially had Windows 8. Therefore, they're leaving the Windows 8 factory recovery on the computer.

P.S. Sorry for the stringed responses! I didn't mean to flood.

McAfee is loaded onto a lot of computers because they pay companies like Dell to do it. Honestly, I feel that just about all anti-virus programs out there are pretty comparable as far as protection goes. Each one may have its own unique feature or two to tout, is all. McAfee used to have very high praises at one point, but it has sort of fallen on the wayside due to the overwhelming competition. Here are some other anti-virus programs to consider:

And yes: 7200 RPM is right! It's not the be all, end all, but you will see a noticeable difference in the computer's performance between, say, a 500GB, 5400 RPM drive, and a 500GB, 7200 RPM drive. As you load more software onto the computer, that 5400 RPM drive will really begin to show its limitations. The 7200 RPM drives don't cost much more, either (about $25 - $50, depending on Dell's markup). It's the solid state drives that are expensive.

Okay you have answered all my questions for the most part save for one more that come (being the second person to mention the SSD's)

What is that and what does it do, and how is it a benefit to me (if at all) and how much should I expect to pay, if I can opt for one?

I dont know what this solid state drive is or how its beneficial, want to make an attempt at this one for me bro?

The three I put in red from your list were the ones I tried out for a while and they slowed my computer down noticeably (I have i7) so I replaced them... and I remember Kaspersky on my old desktop, the poor pc could barely run xD. Dont recommend them lol, nothing personal just feedback for the OP. :)

Hey thanks I know it has more then one trojan on it, Im standing at my desktop now (Im not on it) because I cant swat all the pop ups away while posting on the thing, it then begins to have a mind of its own or something LOL

I only browse on that puter because I never kept anything for virus or security on it, I wont even check my mail on that computer, but I did come here though lol

Is it easy to clean off your own drive?

I wouldnt mind, having a spare laptop if it was inexpensive to do

Okay I gotcha that makes sense then, gees, is there no way to get a windows 7 back up?

I wonder if I have any of my old CD's, or if doing it that way would work, I dont know.

Dont be sorry at all, you have been most helpful, you have helped immensely to make this more of a breeze for me

So thanks, I am copy pasting everything to my own site narrowing things down in my mind and at least being made able to make more of an eductaed decision here, I hate making an uneducated one, the last one costed us a great deal, so I dont want to go down that route again (no matter how large or small the purchase) good to know a few things

Thats good then, he listed it at the top and you swiped off most of what was beneathe it, thats good to know, I had AVG before I got a trojan on that one myself lol

SoulWeaver, I have gathered all the links so far except the one to Bitdefender do you have the home adress to that?

A hard drive is mechanical; it has moving parts that access your data and programs. A solid state drive works more like those little USB flash drives you see everywhere these days; they have no moving parts. Data is read and recorded much faster because of this design ─ and when I say much faster, it's pretty dramatic. Solid state drives also are less susceptible to heat and shock damage, and draw less power, resulting in potentially longer battery life.

If they give you a Windows 7 DVD and the product key to register/activate it, then you can always use that. There are other more technical ways of preserving your installation of Windows 7 too that I'd be happy to walk you through at some point if you're interested.

Probably should tell hat Norton to be quiet, why it would tell you that I don't know. 1. It's not a performance monitor 2. Using youtube has nothing to do with CPU, unless you have a 15 year old CPU, RAM maybe if you got 10+ video running at the same time your internet bandwidth would suffer first before anything if you were doing that.

With an SSD, you'd be able to boot up in a matter of seconds <10 seconds, my desktop boots up in 25 seconds from pressing the button to windows booted and myself accessing programs compared to about 60-80 seconds on a mechanical drive. Programs boot up almost instantly, it's considerably faster even on a mid-range SSD.

Plus what Siberian said, an SSD is the best thing you could install in a computer these days.

Amazingly well, Im so proud of ya LOL

So basically its gonna cost me around $200 to save a minut or two? I know this, my husband will ask me, what the heck do you want to buy that for,and since when are you in such a rush? Your not going anywhere, so why do it fast? LOL

So yeah, I cant justify buying that to him, you do well to help change my mind (from trying)

I only need to convince him of going a couple of hundred over what I already have (unless I cant get the price down a little more)

It can if hardware acceleration is in use and there is no dedicated graphics card/chip. It's still not that taxing, even then, though.

Thanks, yeah Im in no rush. I need this laptop for bed (meaning when I am out of commission) and going nowhere at all, and going a few seconds or minutes faster in that state really isnt a priority lol

Certainly not worth no $200 couldnt justify it to the hubby, he will laugh at that (as it pertains to me in particular)
