I could build one of those "great walls of text" that we see in replies often, but I decline. Well, there are thousands, maybe tens of thousands of things I believe are not funny. I could get real spiritual and say "someone dying without Jesus", but I don't think that's what you're looking for here.

I think posts that are NOT thought provoking, but instead simply argumentative are not funny.

for me. any kind of practical joke. i am not amused. jokes about death or suicide or mocking other people. some people i know get a kick out that. or slapstick?
Practical jokes and slapstick? Do the Three Stooges know you feel this way?

It's also not funny when people make a joke about things that are not funny. It's just not funny!

so how would you, personally, know when you're safe to use said humor?
i am in the first category. my whole family is a bit weird about joking and teasing actually. I believe we've all had at least one embarrassing public freak out over someone who was just trying to have a bit of 'fun'
When it's safe... generally you need to watch the person very carefully. If you watch them you can pick up on whether they find it funny, endearing, love it or find it distancing and don't really understand.

It's so hard to give specifics as to what is appropriate and what isn't. I think with time I'm learning and you really just need to listen to other people, when they reply, if you are truly listening to you can pick up how they feel about certain things. I don't know, I guess just listening, and seeing if they reciprocate, if they reciprocate they generally love it.

Generally with a practical joke, if someone feels really awkward or annoyed - success. If they get angry (not just like initial 10 seconds angry), you've went too far.

One thing I think that is kind of on the flip side that people do need to be careful of though (and I'm not saying that you are at all) is judging people because they find practical jokes funny, or awkward jokes or teasing funny. It is just that they have a different way of relating to people and don't understand how you relate to others. Let them know that you don't really appreciate that kind of thing, but don't sort of... force them to not do that to other people. :)

What I don't find funny...

Jokes that are designed to hurt other people (this is often an intentions thing)

Hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions if you have them. :)

what isn't funny to me is that grinding human flesh to make a meatball, and seing my neighbor stalked threathened and chasing my two little sons with axe or a huge knife, i mean duh:confused:?

what's makes me laugh sometimes is in peoples natural-reaction like " well isn't this nice.."

I would like to give the definition of funny from the Lord, and what He has given to me. I was 17 years old, and I remember constantly in my heart, the holy Spirit kept saying, not at the expense of others. It isn't funny if you laugh at other people, regardless if it was funny, but if you saw it through the Lord eyes, it wasn't funny. You see, God has His own set of humor. And it doesn't revolves around what makes us laugh, it revolves around laughing because the holy Spirit has the power to do so.

I was at my cousin house, and we were ready to pray, just to pray together. I remember, the holy Spirit starts to tickle the inside of me, and I couldn't stop laughing. Nothing made me laugh, nor did anyone crack a dumb joke to get me going. It was because God was just funny, and He loves humor. I remember this day, because it stuck with me my entire life. I realize that funny doesn't need a source that is OUTSIDE of God. Because funny comes from the source that is GOD.

When people start to learn that true source, everything comes humorous, without any jokes, without anyone saying a single thing, without the expense of using others as a footstool for a laugh, without any of those things. Funny is just funny, because the holy Spirit empowers us into joy, funny, and laughter. How does He do this? I don't know know, He's God!

Some of the folks here replied with premature knowledge of the situation. And some, I can understand where you guys are coming from about laughter. But what you need to learn is that not everything has to be laugh at. You need to learn to control your laughter if it is at the expense of others. Just as much as you control your other body parts, so you need to do the same. Start to learn the compassion for other people, and when you start to see things in God's eyes, you'll realize, it wasn't funny after all. Matter of fact, it wasn't funny. It was cruel, and it could have left a scar on someone's else life. Even if it was unintentional.

"BUT IT WAS JUST A JOKE!" Oh yea? Here's what God has to say about that: "As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?" Proverbs 26:18-19

Translation is: God compare those people who say to themselves and other people, "I was just joking!" to that of a maniac who shoots fire, arrows, and death.

So be considerate of other people, and learn to look through the eyes of Jesus. Control your laughter, because overall, it might not just be from God. And it's probably something you should of learn how to tame, along with your body, and tongue.

what ISN'T funny to me is crutley to animals... as a christian i believe it is very important that we show kindness of ALL of God's creation....

I wanted to share that altho the Lord healed me completely of arthritis inmy shoulder many years ago ( and it has never returned) I slowly developed naggin pains in other parts of my body ( old age arthritis) and also I had a lot of weight gain and varicose veins. I found a video called Gary Yourofsky's Best Ever Speech which was very long ( an hour!!) but also very interesting and watchable- and it talked about why we shouldn't eat the products of crutley because that is the same as supporting the crutley so they can do it again. I could see as a christian that going vegan was a very good thing... and guess what ? the arthritis went, the varicse veins went and the weight just disappeared. My ehalth is so good now, for which I thank God every day because I am eating the diet that He gave us in the garden of Eden and also is anticipated in Scripture-tha the Lion will lie down with the lamb.

so please watch Gary Yourofsky's Best Ever Speech on Youtube and after you are saddened by what goes on, then pick yourself up and choose to change for a much healthier way--- it will win you frineds who are vegan and also love animals and it makes us a much BETTER witness for Christ ( because it shows we care and have love, real love, not just words) as well as great health.
THEN.. here is the good bit... you will find AMAZING recipes for delicious brilliant food all over the internet. There are brilliant vegan webistes everywhere. There are also christian-vegan facebook pages. google it and find out. You will be sooo thankful to God that He has provided an answer to our health needs... you will be quite amazed at the changes,.....I can testify that yes, it is true, that God DOES heal instantly and miraculously, but He also GIVES us what we need for health in nutrition... I highly recommend this wonderful way of living..... God bless :) :) ps kids love it..... :) we show kindness and are to ALL of God's creation.... can I recommend this.....
