Well, Priscilla taught Apollo, and other women were certainly in leadership positions in the Bible.

26 When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately." Acts 18:26

In fact, her name is first in four out of the six biblical references to them. And that is unusual! Most references to husbands and wives in the Bible place the man first. Why the switch? Now, if you live in Corinth in the first century AD, maybe a women shouldn't be teaching a class. They had some big issues there and in Ephesus.

You need to read the word of God for yourself, realizing that Paul is writing these letters to first century Christians, where the women were very uneducated, in fact, many never had the opportunity to leave their own home without an escort. Or, conversely, some of these women were saved out of the Greek pagan faiths, and had a lot to learn about how to behave in a gathering of Christian believers.

Wondering if this woman is married, and her husband is also teaching? If so then they are like Priscilla and Aquilla from the Bible, who were a married couple and teachers, they teach together in one accord so in that case it definitely is Biblical to learn of her, as it was for Apollos in the Bible. She will be teaching you the same that her husband would teach you, as his helper. In the same way the Bride-Church teaches all she has learned from her Bridegroom-Christ as His helper in the harvest.

What does the Holy Spirit tell you inside? If it is go, then go, if not, then dont. Discern things by the fruit and pray on it, and you will be led out of confusion much better than asking here... Bible Discussion forum is usually a sure way to multiply confusions. God is not the author of confusion nor doubt. I am sure if you pray to God that He will give guidance for this specific case.

Now here are two perfect illustrations of women teaching the truth. Sister Angela and Sister SoulWeaver both are instructing us in the Word of God regarding Priscilla and Aquila. Is there anyone here who can say they are in error to do so?

If it wasn't against forum rules, I'd drag you to my church since we live in the same State. We will have a male speaker next week for a weekend that has half of the church hesitant to sign up because they fear his teaching will disturb their theocratic slumber. And, on the other hand, we have a female teacher who teaches (actually, just "facilitates") a class with her husband, basically, just sitting there beside her, that has helped change the lives of dozens of people... myself, included.

But, frankly, I would suggest NOT going to this particular class with the confused mindset you have right now. In fact, I would be one to suggest getting out of a church where you are still thinking God only wants you to listen to men. It has been my experience in 70 years (ten days to go till my birthday) of living, that women very often exhibit far more wisdom than men. (Just listen to ten minutes of Pat Robertson's babbling if you doubt that.)

As I understand Scripture on this issue, It is not God's plan for women to preach or teach in the assembly of the Church.

If the class is intended to be a curchwide event, it should be taught by a man. If it is a small group event and you believe the woman is competent to lead it I don't see an issue. I would not be comfortable with a woman teaching men doctrinal issues; but a competent evangelist should be permitted to teach evangelism.

Paul first was going over their ways that they were taught by their ancestor, the ones that God has considered them not to be righteous, since none of them were without sin; and so now God has sent someone to teach that is without sin, His spirit. Then Paul went and said, did God had worked only through them, and which he were speaking to the men. When Mary went to tell her family about what has happened, before she can say a word about it, Elizabeth had exploded out, "Blessed is the one that you are pregnant with!!!", but how could she had known that she were pregnant, and how could she had known that it will be their God? All Mary had said when she walked through the door was, " Hi, everybody!". Then the baby leaped in Elizabeth womb, and Elizabeth had prophesied; but before-hand, Elizabeth husband remained silent. and in the book of Ruth, the women did most of the speaking.

34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored.

39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

And that is a command from the Lord.

I don't quite understand what you are saying here about the scripture saying that its not okay to have teachers that are women in the church. What about in the children's ministry? It's not okay to have a female teacher teach the kids. Now I totally understand having a woman pastor not be okay. I was given a spiritual calling when I was younger to be a teacher in the children's ministry and I am not married and I am a young woman. The church I served in was pastored by a husband and wife team where the Senior Pastor supported the decisions they had made and encouraged all the teachers in the ministry. Please clarify.

I might have misspoke or misread your post. The church doesn't say for us to only listen to men. The sermon was about what are we called to do as men. The pastor preached from the story of Adam and Eve. How Adam didn't take responsibility for the eating of the forbidden fruit. He was just saying how we should live courageously, not passively. I really don't know why I'm feeling so torn about this. I don't have any other obligations on Wednesday nights. At the same time though, I'm in the process of trying to rebuild myself. Maybe I'm trying to take on too much?
