Ok, I've got a question bout something that has been bugging me through a whole buncha pages now...and,
before yall goes all rofl and stuff, I know it has got something to do with the engine...yet...what is an alternator:eek:?

it takes power from the engine and magically recharges the battery.
don't let the guys tell ya different. :cool:

I have a couple of favorites John but they're all very capable once learned. Of the two you've mentioned, I'd go with the Ace 350. You'd soon be wishing for the better unit if you hadn't done so from the onset. It's also not a bad idea to consider a quality used machine. I'll PM you later today with a few suggestions. But the Garrett's you speak of are both very decent and equally as important, they're lightweight. I use the Explorer Se Pro (Minelab) and a Whites MXT ... both with huge (and somewhat heavy) aftermarket coils. I just practically "gave away" a 3rd Whites MXT that I wasn't using a month ago for $200. I'll PM you later today. Gettin' ready to head out :)

maybe it's better put this way...it's a sort of electrical generator.
it converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.
that's why, if the alternator is bad, the battery won't recharge and it'll die.
at least...i think that's right? :)

Yeah, that's as close as we need to get to know the purpose of an alternator. (In years past, the part of the car that did the same thing, more or less, was actually called a "generator.")

It's called going to work...

Even saturdays I get up early, once the sun is up... so am I. It's always been like that.. I have always been an early riser.

But that doesn't mean I don't like my COFFEE in the morning.... It just helps put me in a good mood lol...

a) son-in-law with a PhD in engineering and
b) owned a lotta old cars.

Mornin Melita, well, it is cold, it is snowing, it is windy, we had a solar eclipse today (was fantastic tho) and it is back to sub freezing :p all in all...NOT a good mornin...lol
