Do you believe that what you say from your mouth, could come true? I said the other day to some Christian ladies that every 3 years something bad happens to me, and they said, "REBUKE THAT RIGHT NOW!!!" I didn't know if it was scripture??? Then I watched Joel Osteen (not a huge fan, don't judge me) and he talked about speaking negative will bring negative and speaking positive will bring positive.

I hope this makes sense.

I wasn't sure what to call the title of this thread.

Well...

Since I'm not God, MY words don't bring things into existence out of nothing.

Since Joel Osteen is also not God, most likely his words also don't bring things into existence out of nothing.

Certainly our words have the normal power of... words.
-- You say something mean; people's feelings get hurt.
-- You say something encouraging; people feel uplifted and encouraged.

But we are not God, and our words don't have the power of God's words.
-- His words created the universe
-- My words just create posts on cc

: )

I dont think they were having a go at you because of what you said, perhaps they were helping you to understand what people say without thought, can lead to be taken wrong. so in a way they were telling you to becareful and watch and think what you say before you say it.

The power or authority to speak things into existence is hocus pocus magic unless God is the One doing it.

I'll bet that if you thought about it, you would find that every 3 years something good happened to you too.

To me that would say that you have an area in your life were you happen to focus mainly on the bad things that happen instead of looking and focusing on the good. Remember the Lord will get you through all things no matter how bad if you put all the cares and issues on Him. Let Him be your focus and have confidence through Him that all works out for the better in His name.........

Osteen was simply capitalizing on an old adage. Self fulfilling prophecy. Meaning if you walk around all day every day expecting something bad to happen to you, eventually it will. Just as if you walk around all day every day expecting something good to happen to you, eventually it will.

Truth is, doesn't matter what you walk around all day expecting, good things and bad things happen to all people. Now, surely a positive attitude is far better than a negative one............another old adage: A frown is a smile turned upside down.

Non of these qualify as prophecies in the Biblical sense........it's just life, and life happens

Love ya, Brother, but I can't fully agree with this one. Far too often our attitudes can, and do, change the outcome of the things that come our way. I experience it almost daily.

Life is not what happens around us, but how we perceive those things...... and consequently respond to them in ways that either grab hold of them for the positive we can make of them, or allow the negative to steamroll us under.

The power of life and death truly IS in the tongue... and "As a man thinketh, so is he."

uh, that's what I said?

And it is also true that even when we are portraying a negative/positive attitude something just the opposite will happen. Really bad mood, knowing something bad is gonna happen, and just then the phone rings and it's an old friend calling to say Hello, and that they were thinking of you and love you.

Or the opposite also........Really great mood, sun shining, birds singing, whistling as we go along our way, and some idiot runs a Stop Sign and T-bones us.

Life ALSO happens, regardless of our attitude. :)

Sorry. I must have misunderstood you. I, personally, don't think we will attract good stuff, or bad stuff, to us. But rather, that even if what does come our way is not so good, our attitude can take the bad, and at least make it lean toward the good side........ or it can cause us to completely miss the good in something because we couldn't recognize the possibilities over our "Bah-Humbugs."

I had a stroke about 3 years ago, and it turned out to be one of the greatest blessings to ever happen in my life.

I agree, for God can surely take our darkest day and make the Son shine through :)

I wish I had time to go into this but there are reasons why we need to learn to bridle our tongues beyond just swear words, just as much as we need to watch how we think and renew our minds <--well that there comes first before anything comes out of our mouth.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Someone said it again to me yesterday. I was talking to my friend and said, Im sure sometimes in my life I will stray away from God again. When I say stray, it means not walk as close. I don't go off the deep end and have a sinful lifestyle, but maybe not go to church every time the doors are open or open my Bible everyday. She said the same thing, that Im already predicting what Im going to do and Im giving the enemy power over me. I just laughed at her and I didn't know what to say because people keep telling me these things. So that means if I say, Im going to marry so and so, Im going too? lol She told me she heard a sermon over it and I told her that I would like to hear it. Im just surprised at how much Im hearing this. Maybe I should zip my mouth more, because I am pessimist and just naturally think or speak the bad before the good.....im working on it ;)
