10. I, Yahweh, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10)

So let us remember to do selfless good, now when we still can, so that we may inherit the eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We might want to keep in mind that this does not mean...... "judged by what he performed"... but rather, by the kind of person he was in his daily "doings." Basically, by the way he treated others.

Psalms 18:27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

We can do no selfless good to inherit eternal life - that was purchased for us by the blood of Christ. He gave us His righteousness and has covered our sins.

The things I do on earth that are fruitful and helpful to others will be rewarded as we are told. Some more than others. Yet, even that thought bothers me a little because all my goodness is coming from His life pouring out of me. I can hardly take credit. Yet I suppose that there have been times when I chose to deny my flesh and follow the leading of the Spirit.

The work of faith has been the thing I do that has brought me the most blessings.

But if we have the righteousness of Jesus Christ, don't we do selfless good?

I see no real point in your speak.

46. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47. Every one that cometh unto me, and heareth my words, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: 48. he is like a man building a house, who digged and went deep, and laid a foundation upon the rock: and when a flood arose, the stream brake against that house, and could not shake it: because it had been well builded. 49. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation; against which the stream brake, and straightway it fell in; and the ruin of that house was great. I take serious encouragement from this, not in terms of justification before the Lord, but when disfunctional hurting people hurt me, I know it is not my fault, I should not change or feel guilty, they are receiving the fruit of their attitudes and behaviour. If you are treated unfairly, so is everyone else in your position, you are not being victimised. In the end these people will get their just reward, which is often unpleasant. There is a reason why Jesus said the meek shall inherit the earth, it costs to seriously plod and stay faithful to a good cause, but in the end it always bears good fruit, that is a promise.

yes, the people of the book always do selfless good, all their life by yahweh's grace, as our father in heaven is good.

All the good works that saved souls does are done to bring glory to God out of gratitude out of being saved.

They are not done with the intention of one hopefully becoming accepted by God, but because one is already "accepted in the beloved".

As for salvation of man, the work of Christ alone is what makes the difference between salvation and damnation. Not the work of man.

If we do not do what our Lord says, then we can not be his follower.

It is so simple, if we just wan't to understand this.

You will receive rewards in Heaven for your ''good works'' but good works do not determine where you spend eternity.

If you give a cup of cold water.................

The bible teaches about recompense for actions done in this world, and recompense when we appear before the judgment seat of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Romans 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Romans 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Proverbs 11:29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Proverbs 11:31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

2 Chronicles 6:30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men;

Psalms 62:12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

Proverbs 24:12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

1 Peter 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

Mikko - I pray that you will have a greater understanding of grace - it gives us all rest and assurance. Read Romans very slowly and you will understand that we will never live perfect enough lives to gain salvation. But all who are in Christ try, and when we fail, we are covered by His grace.

God looks at the motives of our hearts, and He has compassion for us on those times we act selfishly from a heart that might be in great pain or in great fear. He does not demand perfection in us - but He does delight in those who trust in His goodness and forgiveness.

yahweh in his word when he gives directions, OT and NT, never says to try to do what he says.

(except the general "as much as possible , live in peace with all men" might be considered "try" to live in peace)

re he does not demand perfection in us. english is stupid language, yes, but

still it is written in OT and NT

YOU MUST BE HOLY (yahweh's chosen people)

and

YOU MUST BE PERFECT. (yahshua's disciples)

if that's not a demand. well...... it's at least a direct instruction from yahweh to HIS PEOPLE (not to the other nations nor to the world of unbelievers) ....

Yes Jeff - I am holy which means set apart. The Holy Spirit has sealed me. I am His chosen.
And yes I am spiritually perfect because I have the 'Righteousness of Christ' covering me.

I know I'm to DO, to love others - but in the process of doing, one has to put forth effort which I call "try". If ever I succeed because of the effort, it is only because I have denied my own feelings, and allowed the Holy Spirit's fruits to be expressed and His love be shown. I give Him the glory for every good act.

Beautifully spoken.... but, quite obviously, even more beautifully understood.

This is a very good passage from the Lord in Luke 6 that He is describing what it means to believe in Him, and clearly says a believer in Him is one who does what He says.
The Lord also mentions here that a hearer only does not have their foundation in the faith built on Him, and James goes further to say a hearer only is deceived and also finishes off his epistle saying that if a person fell away from walking in the truth gets brought back to the Lord their soul will be saved. Meaning if a person walks away from the faith, even after being in it for a little while will not end up with salvation unless they come back to the Lord.

Greater understand for grace, like the whole world today, which has lost the real way of God?

You should't even try to teach me, not that I may learn from you, because I learn from the Spirit, but it is against the manners of God's church, if you are a real follower of the Lord.

Oh - I forgot that I'm a woman for a minute. Because the Spirit moved me.
