Pence: Indiana law on religious freedom 'not about discrimination ... not going to change'

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Sunday that a new state law that attempts to protect long-standing religious freedoms “is not about discrimination” and that he and other state lawmakers do not intend to change the legislation.

Pence, a Republican, said the legislation that he signed last week prohibits Indiana laws that "substantially burden" a person's ability to follow his or her religious beliefs.

The definition of "person" includes religious institutions, businesses and associations, which is being interpreted as allowing a cake maker, for example, to legally refuse an order for a wedding cake for a gay couple.

Liberals, LBGTs, ACLUs and the rest of far-left alphabet don't like this, but as Pence pointed out, they forget the basis for the law is at the federal level and is over 20 years old.

Pence said it isn't about "discrimination," but about being able to confront government overreach. Now I know the alphabet nutballs will be upset!

Yes and this is just another state to put this law in place in their state, as 20 other states have already had this similar style law put in place for years now since Bill Clinton signed the bill to give businesses freedom of religion...

Since when are laws meant to "grant" rights?

The U.S.A. was established on the principle of unalienable rights. That is, rights that a lien is not able to be placed upon.

General sentiment in the U.S.A. has moved so far away from its foundation principles that people are heralding the government granting them rights as a victory.

If the government can grant you rights then the government can take them away. The U.S.A. might as well be the U.S.S.A.

Who is to decide whether one's discrimination is just or unjust? On what basis do they decide this justice? Humanism?

If I was a socialist I would be praising the new Indiana law because it helps to lay the foundation for legislating away the right to assert a choice based upon certain moral foundations.

Two steps forward, one step back.

correct. the government and the liberal\ socialist media want to be in charge of defining our moral decisions, not allow us to use our Bibles to make them.

of course the homosexual mafia and liberals are going nuts over this, and they get real mad when they also get told that a black man can refuse to serve someone who wears a klan outfit to his store, or a jewish person can refuse to make a cake with a giant swastika on it.

but the mental disorder known as liberalism, really clouds up the persons thinking.

I wish they'd listed that in the DSM-5, but since most of the psychologists and psychiatrists who compile that thing suffer from the disorder, it's unlikely they'll ever recognize it as abnormal.

It used to be classified as a mental disorder back in the day.

Indy is very two sided on the issues of religion and the LGBT community. Many of them have fall prey to the gay delusion or just don't care. The fact is equality is fine until it comes to religion.., then it's only for some of us. Indy is a good state though! It's home, but politically people get on my nerves, but that's everywhere I assume.

Currently, Missouri is in Republican hands in the legislature, but with a Democratic governor -- everyone saw how clueless Jay Nixon is when he tried to quell the Ferguson fiasco and did nothing but proverbially pour gasoline on the fire. The people in the state who drive me crazy are the "donut neighborhoods" in Kansas City and St. Louis. There are a few liberals in Columbia and Springfield, too, around the big state universities, but the vast majority of liberals live in those "donuts" in the center of the two major metroplitan areas, surrounded by conservative-leaning suburbs.

It spills across the state line into Kansas, too, and Wichita is solidly liberal Democrats, making the west side of the Kansas City metro area and Wichita the Kansas "donuts." I halfway envy Kansas in having both houses in Republican hands and a Republican governor, but the nutballs still run wild over there. One Kansas City, Kansas legislator is being threatened with sanctions for calling "racist" a state immigration bill that bars illegals from qualifying for in-state tuition.

The hyperbole just gets ratcheted higher and expressed more irrationally with every issue that comes up. Satan is winning the battle. but we all know he has already lost the war.
