Marines do not use mattresses. They sleep on rocks if they sleep at all.

huh...well, we have a marine in the family that has done two tours. he prefers a mattress and he is polite...so, it seems that being a marine does neither include nor exclude certain behavioral assets or detriments

there is no excuse for dismissive rudeness...but I don't take it personally as you did warn me

My mom speaks In tongues. She told me she wouldn't know what to do if she couldn't pray in the spirit. She doesn't speak in front of a congregation, but in her own prayer closet...my mom's friend who is a Methodist was very depressed because not only was she diagnosed with cancer, but her husband too. She was crying out to God pleading with him....all of a sudden something came over her and she started speaking these strange syllables,it was flowing out of her mouth. The only thing she could compare this too was what happened in Acts during the Pentecost. However this wasn't an actuall language...she didn't know who to talk to talk to about this strange phenomenon besides my mom who is a spirit filled Christian, that can also speak in tongues..I don't know if it's a real prayer language, but if it is I want it!

The video makes me sick! And it is why people ridicule the manifestations of the Spirit. This is what most people see, this is what most believe is "of the Spirit" - and I believe people get all caught up in emotion . . . I don't believe that it is necessarily considered "evil" because it is done out of ignorance because a person can only go as far as what they have seen and what they have been taught.

It makes my heart hurt and I can only imagine how grieved it makes God.

I don't see what the video has to do with speaking in tongues. The video highlights people being spastic, not speaking in tongues. The Bible does talk about self control. The Bible also speaks about speaking in tongues. Obviously in God's mind the two are separate. He says to avoid the spastic, but to still speak in tongues.

People like Roger are sooo afraid of the falsehoods that they toss the baby with the bathwater. Yet satan doesn't waste his time falsifying things that are not of God. Since satan spends so much time falsifying and muddying the waters about tongues, does that not tell us that there are true Godly tongues? Like the video pointed out, one must discern the spirits. But don't just blanket toss them all out.

Paul told some followers to put a leash on it. He didn't tell them to abandon it.

Discernment is the key.

I disagree with the text on the video, it was not of/about/regarding people who was being delivered from demons it was of people coming under the powerful influence of the Holy Spirit. I will not offer an opinion whether it was of God or not.

Red herring alert. I am not the one who needs to fear. If you were to discern the spirits you would arrive at a different conclusion than the one you currently hold.

Paul did tell them that the tongues gift would cease. Simple reading is best.

Paul did. They will cease when Christ returns and they are no longer needed. The red herring alert is on you, for denying the work of the Holy Spirit

Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin

2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

Then how do you go to heaven? How do you tell the difference between good and bad? We are told, "try the spirits". If you can't/won't/don't want to, discern the difference between good and evil you're on the wrong side.

I have what I call a prayer language that I use only between the Lord and myself. I don't flaunt it or use it in prayer groups because many do not understand it and I feel it may cause undo attention to myself. I've seen some misguided persons trying to type out what they feel is their prayer language online and I have to chuckle to myself. Totally fruitless. They should just type their prayer in English (or whatever the known language is in the setting) so everyone can profit or stand in agreement with an Amen.

To my best understanding, tongues was speaking in another language for unbelievers to prove the evidence of God during the apostle times. (Now we have the written Word.) If anything spoken in any form, in any language, or at any time does NOT align with His Word then my gut instinct is that it was not of God because He will never contradict Himself.

I cannot claim Tongues but neither can I deny what I know to be true. At the age of 13, and receiving the Lord as my Savior, I did in fact speak in a prayer language. It came over me like a heavy anointing. And though I have a peace about it, I have asked God to take it from me if it wasn't of Him but I'm still speaking in my prayer language to this day. (been 42 years now)

Do I have a demon? No. God does NOT live in a duplex.

This is what the "manifestation of tongues" is anywhere I have seen it. This is exactly what we rail against. Yet you defend tongues and don't acknowledge that the improper practice of it is evil.

You tell me?

How does boldness mean drunk? and why did Peter have to make a defending statement they were not drunk.
Because they were speaking in an unrecognizable language. The people accusing them were of satan.....you really need to become more recognizant of how satan works. If he talks people into killing Christ, you think he can't talk them into accusing people of being drunk?

The immaturity from people that want to show they know something on this thread astounds me.

Shame of it is, Vince, that so many people here don't realize they are unbelievers.

Actually Joel according to Peter said just the opposite. When Christ returns then we will see the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy. Until then we are in the times of the Gentiles and signs are for the Jews.

Amen, and i hear you brother Phil,
it would be interesting to hear their personal testimony of how they received the Holy Spirit? Don't tell me,....... they went to a Charismatic church, someone placed their hands on their head babbled in tongues they didn't understand and all the sudden they received the Holy Spirit? .......lol.

Also i wonder if they can tell the difference between a counterfeit 100 bill and a fake?

There is not a single evidence of tongues in the bible as anything other than a human language. There is nothing to suggest that a special prayer language is necessary. Jesus Who taught us to pray never taught any prayers in tongues. No did Jesus pray in tongues. Praying in a tongue which you do not understand is just plain silly.

1 Corinthians 13

[SUP]8*[/SUP] Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
9
9For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
10
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

some people believe the perfect mean bible. When bible in writing than all this gift will cease

base on what is the purpose of all that give, I believe we still need that gift now.

1 corinthians 14:4
New Living Translation
A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.

as long as we live in the world, we need the strength

So I believe perfect on verse 10 above mean when we go to heaven.

We don't need healing gift anymore because there is no longer illness there. We always strength there.

Well, I really didn't see tongues in this video. I saw people jerking, falling out [slain in the spirit], "holy laughter", etc. I also disagree with this and have stated that previously.

As I said, I didn't see improper usage of tongues in this video. I do believe in the manifestation of tongues and I do believe that it should be done decently and in order.
