I'm beyond, "Howdy do" new, but still very new. Some stuff I'm not getting, and I can't figure out where to ask to figure it out.

FREX:
It seems like everyone knows everyone and is talking over my head. Not on purpose, and I get it. I'm not brand new to other sites, so I know I'll catch on eventually, but Whaaaat? There seems to be sects I've never heard of, and, until I joined here, I thought I had some vague idea, or at least a name for most sects/denominations/schools of belief etc. What is a Secular? What a cessationist? (I did ask, and the person using the word was kind enough to answer, so I learned, but I felt so silly asking in the middle of an argument I didn't even get.) And more important, since I know I'm new, therefore ignorant, where can I ask so I don't keep annoying people by asking stuff they've probably answered 20,000 times before.

It seems some folks are really angry at everyone else, like everyone is to blame. Is that a commonality with all the forums or just some? Feeling the hostility, and I haven't even been angry myself (yet.) Where do I ask about stuff like that?

I took a post at its face value, but quickly found it was about something I wasn't expecting. Felt kind of like people were picking teams, and, for a change, I wasn't picked last. (At least that's different. lol) But it felt like I wasn't there. Who do I ask about that?

And then, it seems like everyone knows who the atheists are. I can usually pick them out in a crowd, but I thought this site was just for Christians, so I keep getting surprised they are atheist. Or, since I don't know what's going on, it's quite possible the person isn't atheist, but is a brand of Christianity some don't count as Christians. (Very confusing.) How do I ask about stuff like that?

So, yes, very nice to have a "Hi, I'm new" forum, but how about a forum for those who have past "Hi" and are now and are feeling like Scooby Doo. (Always answering with "huh?" but like that dog, so it doesn't feel like it's in the same language as people. Sorry, lousy at sounding like anyone else. lol)

My thought is, if you include a forum with "Dumb newbie questions" (and, yes, bad title, but it's the idea not the branding I'm asking for lol) at least anyone who enters it will realize they're headed for answering questions that have probably been asked to death on this site. Better yet, if I see someone else ask the same thing, I can just learn, instead of reposting a similar question.

Just a suggestion, but born out of I'm so unbelievably confused! :D

Most of the forums are friendly.

The BIBLE DISCUSSION forum is the debate area on this site.
The NEWS forum also gets a bit volatile.
Most of the other forums are friendly.

Be sure to go visit the live chat.
There are usually perfectly nice people in there talking about their favorite music and their cats.

Just jump into conversations and make yourself at home.

If using google for your browser, you can highlight a word and right click. A menu will appear near and you can choose search google for ...... If you left click on that, it will open a new tab beside the one for this site and you can select from a number of sites to find the definition in the context you require. I'm sure others will know different browser's options. It's probably similar in any of them.

This is a Christian site, but anyone is welcome to join as long as they don't not push/teach things that go against basic bible teachings, or flat out attack God/bible, etc...
Secular is just a general term meaning 'not Christian' such as Christian music or secular music.

Sounds like you're spending a lot of time in the Bible Discussion forum and that's the problem. That is mostly filled with self righteous people relying on their own wisdom to boast and brag and put others down for not accepting their doctrine. It's technically not supposed to be a debate area, there is no debate area officially, but that's all it really is.

We do have the Miscellaneous forums for any questions or threads that have no specific place.
Perhaps a sticky thread explaining many of the terms would be a good idea, but i don't foresee an entire forum.

While it may not answer some of the terms people use, but a link for how to navigate around the site can be found here...

There already is a forum for confused people, it's called Christian Chat! It just happens to be broken down into all the various
sub forums you see.

We are all probably just as confused as you are! :)

You're not a dumb newbie. The Singles forum is usually very hospitable and upbeat. The Bible Discussion forum can be very hostile at times. It is not you at all it is just that some people there are just mean to everyone and think that they know it all. The exception to the Bible Discussion forum is the Speak Your Mind thread which is just a lot of nice fun peeps hanging out with each other.

Atheist are allowed on the site as long as they don't try to persuade anyone to their point of view. I agree with you that there are some rude members but I feel that most members are generally nice and considerate.

Your opinion is just as important as anyone else's. I am sorry that you have had to shout to be heard but hopefully that will change once you have become better known.

You wrote an outstanding post.

Any discussion between people will elicit there perspective, which is often a summary of life experience.
To aid the conversation people will use words that represent particular positions that have a common meaning. If you do not understand the word, google it, it will normally lead you to a deeper understanding.

The problem in christian discussions is there is an infinite set of issues, which could be addressed so it will always end up in particular traditions or positions that people feel happy with or have experience of.

But people come to places like this because they want a breadth of opinion and want more than just agreement, what to test out their ideas and see if they make sense. This is healthy as long as people do not take the points to heart and feel hurt or abused, which few I think would actually intend.

I have found it useful, because it means awareness of certain issues can be gaged outside of the church which one is a member of, which often is very isolated and has all the bases already covered or ignored.

You are dealing with the internet, composed of all cultures, peoples and their baggage. I have met online pastors who preach in the buff, several bipolar disorderly folk, a former satanic priest, missionaries, newborn babes in CHRIST, and the list goes on. At no time in history has one been able to sit in the comfort of their own home and have a live chat with people from around the world. I see the chatrooms as a field, ripe for harvesting, while others see it as a way for them to VENTILATE.

FREX - Internet shorthand for "For example." (If you think you're confused, I finally figured that out after critiquing someone's novel with a character named FREX. lol)

no... far far worse.... (preachers on the internet, effects of - even 'routine' / 'regular' ones)

and the internet is not a field to harvest..... it is biologically unfriendly, per fellowship iimpossible not to be in person..... it is censored, and not correctly (not by believers/followers of truth ---- no "right ruling")...

it is the world, and it is the things of the world....

at best, even here, a contact with another believer is possible, to develop if yahweh permits into parts of the body working effectively in him together as he pleases...

but internet activity is virtually and practically ineffective and useless and harmful to persons souls (many many multitudes more are seriously/ fatally/ harmed than are helped....

you have entered no man's land. (or no woman's land?)... as it is written in TORAH (SCRIPTURE)(ALL THAT FLOWS FROM YAHWEH to mankind (not what most people think, they're wrong!) )

... every day those who belong to yahweh in yahshua encounter traps laid for them, even in the house of yahweh. (even by family, friends, religious teachers, torah teachers, "grace" teachers, medical professionals, political anything, economic anything, almost any educational-ers, etc etc etc)

so , too , here, yes --- a hodegepodgee of mixed races and colors and flavors and sizes and types.....

and not one good authority except to forbid the heresy (which is far better - yes, far far better to forbid the heresy than those sites or any place that does not forbid it --- there is no hope for those who permit the heresy willingly)

but, as you've found, the heretics keeeeeep poooosting as if their not heretics and no one can help them... (they don't want help, and they even refuse the one who rose from the dead to save them !!!!!!!!!!)

so , yes, it is confusing here...... be aware, and test EVERYTHING..... and PRAY ALWAYS, CONSTANTLY.

trust only yahshua by grace in yahweh.
