I'm a pk myself and spent a lot of time in ministry. Without recognition. It still bothers me to be scrutinized by all and held to a higher standard than others.

We all are believers and brothers and sisters. The ministers serve God so they are the Anointed one of the Lord. and we have to respect them in this way.

God bless!

Really upset. So much stuff has happened over the last few months and its not fair. Heck over the last few years. I've been at the same church for seven years or so. I felt shut out for so long but ministered anyways outside of the church for a couple years. When I brought it up that I was going on two years on a radio talk show I was called a liar from the pulpit. Fast forward to now and I'm going through a divorce from a physically violent woman who I know has cheated so many times. But because I was texting another woman I am set down and she is still a Sunday school teacher. I know I need to be down and get right again but what the heck?

Levi,

Pastors are not supposed to be treated with so much respect with think of them as "super Christians" who get special treatment from God because they have a special annointing.

Pastors don't have any special annointing. All believers are indwelt and empowered by the same Holy Spirit.

1 In the New Testament, ALL believers are priests.
1Pe 2:5
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

1Pe 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

The pastor doesn't have any special priesthood or annointing... he just has a DIFFERENT JOB.
He's the leader of the flock, and therefore he is to be an example to the flock.

2. The pastors are supposed to be checked against the word of God.
We are never to respect them so much we just blindly believe what they say.
Act 17:10-11
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

The Bereans did NOT just blindly trust the apostles, they tested their words against the scripture.

cont.

3. Pastors don't get any special treatment from God because they're "extra spiritual" or "extra special" or have some "super annointing". But God DOES hold them to act with a higher moral standard, because they are to be LEADERS of the flock... and they are to lead by example.

1Timothy 3:2-6
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Tit 1:7-9
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

I'm really sorry you're going through all this.
It sounds way too complicated to sort through on a public forum.

Are you getting some counseling, to help sort through all this stuff?

I do agree that ministers don't get any "special" treatment from God, however I do believe they are held at a higher standard because as a congregation we look up to the pastor for guidance. I once had a pastor that I looked up to because he and his wife had a 'real' relationship that they were not afraid of what people would say about the two of them and they were obviously still smitten with each other even after 55 years of marriage. I want that type of a marriage whenever I God seems fit for me to get married.

Levi,

I was just trying to discuss some issues about the pastorate, and how we're to view them.

Words like "annointing" and "respect" and often used in all kinds of strange ways in modern culture.
I was just trying clarify some of the issues surrounding those words.

I wasn't trying to pick on you.
Everybody here likes you.

: )

The answer is so simple we sometimes complicate it to impress ourselves...smile. It is a common sense thing, If a leader says something FOR God and it is wrong, people will follow it because he is a Pastor. Trust is put in him as a representative of God himself in His teachings, so we see the scriptures already outlined here in the word describing those requirements as a foundation for trust among men..

But it is simple..... He ministers to many. God Himself, not people will hold him accountable.For that influence.

Yet there is another point...God wants us not to judge His church. Ever say to yourself, hey I will give my tithe to this or that, because I don't think the Pastor knows what he is doing? I hope you haven't... smile, but the understanding of the spirit behind the question you can relate to right?!!

By God being the direct judge on Pastors we are taken out of the need to keep the church in order. For God says Christ is the Head of the church, dividing thoughts can destroy a church. That also protects Gods economy, 10% has worked so far... yet we need to bring it into the storehouse or church so to not fraction Gods order of economy to His church. If wrongful use of those things happen, God Himself will correct the Pastor. and leaders of the church.

Also, in the way of secular kings and leaders this is true as well.. For God is in control of all things. If we , for instance, go to war and have to kill for our country wrongly accusing a nation or enemy, are we to take the blame if we were sent by the government to do it? God says it will be the kings and leaders that are responsible for such a decision, as long as you were following the rules of engagement set by those authorities etc etc.
.
Pastors have guidance from God, but God has His will in who those people will be.. that's why Pastors today need to take seriously the call to be ordained, by God. There are some Pastors that should not be Pastors. For God did not ordain them,

Some did it because their Dad was one, some felt falsely lead , or this place needed one etc etc.

.Not ordained! It is a special calling. And God gives provisions for that calling thru the Holy Spirit.

Keep in mind too that we are all called to minister as Ambassadors of Christ, to reconcile people to the faith of God. And the things we say will also be judged by God.

....As a footnote....I too am a PK, as well, Yet I like to be known as a T,O, Theological offspring, just for the record .....smile!

You're welcome here. I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time. God sees what they don't. I hope we can encourage you here.

Thank you all for your replies. Thank you for the welcome
I do need to be lifted in prayer. I'm hurt not only from my marriage but the church and everything. I feel like my pastor does not believe what my wife has done but is in a rush to believe her lies. She is a viper and no one sees it. She even manipulates the kids and curses all things. We have a five year old which is her sisters. We have raised him since he was six months old. She was so jealous of his affection toward me she started playing a game of holding him and pulling away from me and saying "don't give him my love." All playful but immediately i checked her on it but she wouldn't stop. Within weeks he wouldn't hug me. Still never wants to she did this to me and his mother which is her sister all on purpose. She is this evil. I've even told this and so much more even about her cheating. How can a pastor sit down one who is willing to sit down and get closer to God but not a viper like her? I just don't get it. I get the higher standard of ministers from Gods point of view but not an equal higher standard within all ministers of the church.

If you have a look in Ezekiel 34 you also would see how "those" ministers were, any time during history, and what God wanted from them for that service.

I personally have seen how many of them are seeking special places, like those Jesus mentioned (Matt 23:6-8) but, contrary, I have enjoyed several ministers whom I considered equals (Matt 23:8), friends, whenever they lived as God's servants. :)

I was in counseling for a little while but stopped during the holidays now its been months. I probably need to go back. Thank you

hello and welcome to CC.. your question is better suited for the bible forum. The new chat members forum is for introducing yourself only. :)

I hope you expect God's recognition and approval.

That man who went to preach in Nineveh wanted something he did not received, and God spoke to him with a rebuke.

Our human feelings are, too often, mingled in the things we're doing and, it's sure "social" acceptance is one of those we could lacked.

I had a friend, a pastor, who loves to receive praises, money... and much more than one time, I've heard him talking (as if he was saying one of his jokes) he was thinking to put some one under "his" discipline... What is he PERSONALLY lacking?

Uh, when will the world see the next episode of this LIVE soap opera you just described? Are you telling us that you are a simple victim of circumstances, that you have absolutely NO control over this crisis situation that you are presently in? A child of GOD, although 'judged' by the world, can always end up being a shining example to others, depending on how deep your relationship with CHRIST is, no matter the situation. Drama does seem to be your shadow.

I am a PK and a licensed minister, and I'm been through scrutiny and 'judging' scenarios to the point that I uprooted from a churchhome that I had been a member of for over 25 years. Eventually, I got into a holy spirit filled church and learned a whole new spirtual walk, free from "It's our way or no way" attitude. Praise God I switched from frozen/chosen to a happy/clappy church.
