Umm I think this verse should be directed towards us Christians. I know many gays and many Christians but the only group I see attacking or being mean to the other is the Christians. I never once have heard or seen the gays attacking or being mean like that in fact one of the kindest and most caring person at my volunteer place is in fact a gay. But I actively see Christians attacking the gays I see them judging them and saying mean things about them, true in order to be saved they must be willing to give up their lustful lifestyle and it isn't going to go away at once because fleshly desires like this is very difficult to expel completey but it isn't having the desire that makes it a sin it's acting upon it.


I actually have seen many gays coming to cc for help because they want to change because they want to be saved and I always message them trying to help but I have seen many being scared away from cc because of what ppl say about them and how they treat the gays and it breaks my heart because I truly want to help them but I never saw them again.

You can help get a lot of your thinking on track by losing the idea of being a Christian as holding a ticket for an eventual ride to a location called, "Heaven." The Kingdom of God would better be translated, "the kin-dom of God." It is a relationship, not a destination. Jesus made that point crystal clear to the woman at the well.

A lot of people here like to talk about judging and judgment. Well, the Bible tells us that our futures beyond death will be determined by how we have treated other human beings... especially those we felt deserved some kind of judgment... or those we just didn't want to bother with. ("Lord, when did we see you naked, or hungry, or thirsty, or in jail?"..... "When you saw those around you in need (even caught in homosexuality), and either helped them, or you DIDN'T help them!")

Loving your brother (in deed and in truth) with this worlds goods when seeing them naked (to clothe them) or hungry (feed them) or in prison (even as John the baptist was in prison) and doing unto the least of these (whom he is not ashamed to call brethren) by giving them (out of your abundance) in what they need (whether food, drink, clothing or lodging for the body) even visiting them when cast in prison is good (because we care for them) but its not the same pampering kind of love (or rather demonstration of love) towards those who be called brothers but who continue on sinning and hang out with us. That kind of love is shown in Jesus who says those he loves he rebukes (and chastises)

Those who are hungry have need of food, those who are thirsty have need of drink, those who are cold have need of clothes and those who sin have need of being rebuked.

The needs are different and loving someone (in rebuking them) is just as much caring for their soul as loving someone while caring for the needs of the body (with your provision)

The world will not receive those who are Christ's but their own. This is even how the world is judged, even as by those (who are his) coming in some form of need (and what you have done unto the least of these my brethren)

Those who sin are to be rebuked, shunning is that which helps that which "is called" a brother even as Paul advises

1 Cr 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company,
if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner;
with such an one no not to eat.

Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Shunning (even putting away from ourselves) those who do the same is meant to make them feel ashamed (and aid them in changing their minds).

Your statement is generalizing. Its too bad Christians you know are mean but that does not mean Christians are mean to gays.Nor are most of the people on this site.

I have to somewhat disagree. I also am against the hatred that certain "Christian" groups show to sinners (gays specifically),
but you went way too far by saying that gays aren't ever mean. I have quite a few gay acquaintances, and none of them are innocent when it comes to being aggressive and mean when the topic comes up,
and even when the topic was not relevant, most preemptively bring up the topic defensively, with sarcasm and vindictive tone.

The only innocent side is the side of Christ: showing genuine love, and showing the Way the Truth and the Life.

Why are gays so defensive? The same reason all unsaved are defensive: because everyone is without excuse. All nature and conscience bears witness to the standard of God.

We don't need to tell them what is wrong with them: they already know, as all people know that they are sinful, and they hate themselves and everyone else for it.

We need to show them the Way out of the life they hate, and into the life everlasting.

Short of them just telling us to shove it, and get out of their face with that "Jesus stuff", we are to continue trying to win them with the love Jesus gave us to use. At that point, we are told to move on...... BUT we are NOT told to write them off. If they come a year later, still living with their "partner", and ask us about Jesus again..... we are to pick it right back up, and continue trying to teach them in love.

Love can be blunt. Love can be direct, but love can NEVER be condemning. That is not part of the Great Commission we were given. We were told to go tell people about Jesus and to make disciples, teaching them. And that commission went no further than that. We were not given permission to condemn them and proclaim any sort of judgment over them.

I personally detest the term homophobe. It's a hateful term used to hate and shame when used in labeling people. And yet they themselves would not be labeled. We often find that those who scream for tolerance are sometimes the least likely to give it.

Our only son (20+) is gay. My older brother told us to kick him out. Why, because our son feels differently about how to live than we do? How could kicking him out be love? Our son has been brought up in the faith but never truly embraced Christ. He has passively resisted any call to his heart. He used to go to church with us, just playing along. He lives in our house and will probably do so until he can successfully support himself. I'm NOT kicking him out because of his choices. We don't fight. We live in peace most of the time because we agree to disagree. We help him in all things just like we help our daughter (who is a Christian). The only person he's harming is himself. We will love him right where he is and hope that one day the Holy Spirit will help him change his mind. But I think part of the reason we can live in peace is because he sees that Love in action. And even though he may secretly hate/despise us for believing in Jesus, he can't help but realize we are always reaching out to him because of our Faith.

He's pointed out the Westboro Baptist Church behavior as being Christians. A beautiful twist from the enemy to dump all believers in one bucket. Confusion is not of God. It is a counterfeit faith. But it gives us a chance to share more of what is God's true love. Otherwise, we just 'love' him without getting in his face with 'Jesus stuff'.

Which side we see more of usually has to do with our community. I live in a very liberal area with a very active LGBT community. Most of the Christian abuses towards gays that I see are on tv and the internet.

If I was from an area that was full of the white-washed walls of the cultural "christians", then my view would likely be the reverse. I would assume you are from a more conservative area? Or perhaps just know many people from a legalistic congregation?

He is my son. I'm not ashamed of him although I do not agree with his choices. But I will always love him. I wonder if God has allowed this to teach me how to truly love someone through His Love. I don't know if that's true but it does seem logical. You can love the person and not embrace what they believe or embrace. I have no other answer when trying to reason this out. I just know that Love is always the lesson.

LOL - How interesting. Unfortunately, that church in particular is probably what a good many of the world think about when Christianity comes to their mind too. But it can be used in that moment to point out why they are not true believers.
(I say OF the world, because Christians are IN the world but not OF the world)

My son has nothing wrong to us other than make different choices. And even in that wasn't done against us. But rather, against God's holiness because of sin. All saved individuals were enemies of God at one time. If we pushed our son away because of differences, it could wash away anything God has doing in his life and especially through us. My son sees the difference between that church and the way we love him even if he won't admit it outright.

The Son of God died to save my son.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. Yes, and these were also condemned more strongly than other sins. Just because churches generally view adultery with less distaste than homosexuality does not mean homosexuality becomes equally severe "as any other sin." Not every sin is labeled an abomination and not every sin demanded execution under the law of Moses.

All sin is an abomination to God, and isn't it interesting that of the seven things "that are an abomination to" God in Proverbs 6:16, homosexuality isn't listed?
