Ok, this is my first thread so hello to all, and thanks before hand to you who may reply.

This is the revelation I had a while ago, and have been helped by it deeply, but am realizing not many people see this. So please tell me I'm not "out there" for asking this question.
So here is the verse I was reading when it happened:

1st Peter 1:10- "Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow."

Ok, this letter was addressed to God's elect "who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood", so all of us in Christ. Peter states that the prophets who predicted Christ's sufferings, were prophesying of the grace that comes to us who believe in Jesus. The only prophets he was talking about who could have predicted Christ's sufferings, had to be before Christ came, and were the prophets who wrote the scripture they had at that time, essentially the Old Testament.
So here is the revelation I had and the question I want to ask you all:
If the Old Testament prophets we're speaking of the salvation that the body of Christ are receiving, what were they addressing us as??
Look back at the scripture and read it again carefully and see if you see what I'm saying. Like I said, this occurred to me about 3 years ago, so I have been looking into it for a while now and have figured it out to my satisfaction, but I have come to learn that this hasn't really occurred to alot of people, or may not even see it that way all together.
I can give all of you a hint tho of what answer has satisfied me, it has everything to do with Hebrews saying we have come to Mt. Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, and it also has everything to do with Jesus saying he was sent only for the "Lost sheep of Israel".
God bless, and please answer the question: If the prophets who predicted Christ's coming spoke of our grace in Christ, who wrote the scriptures they had at that time, (Isaiah, Jeremiah, all the ones Paul and Jesus and Peter quoted all over the place), were talking about our salvation, what were they addressing us as?

Remember, we weren't even called Christians till Acts 11. So what were they calling us?

That was a great and informative article, but I was asking specifically about the prophets later on like Isaiah, and Jeremiah, and Zechariah. The article focused alot on Abraham, and rightly so since we are his children by faith and therefore children of the promise. But we are mentioned throughout the major old testament prophets.
For example, we know Jesus was prophesied about in Isaiah 53 as the suffering servant, so this is a great example of a prophet predicting Christ's suffering, and talking about our salvation. Amazingly, in the very next chapter, 54, Isaiah prophesies about the future Glory of Zion, and as Peter says in Galatians 4, she is our mother. Isaiah 54 is about the heavenly Jerusalem, and we are her children, that is the link I was hoping people would make by my question.
Galatians 4: 26*But the Jerusalem that is above*is free, and she is our mother.*

27*For it is written: "Be glad, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have no labor pains; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband."*

28*Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.*

29*At that time the son born in the ordinary way*persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit.*It is the same now.

30*But what does the Scripture say? "Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman's son."*

31*Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman,*but of the free woman.

It has always been about faith and the promise of the redeemer found in Genesis 3:15.......Abel was righteous because his sacrifice and offerning were
1. Of blood
2. Of faith

It has always been about taking the two (twain) Jews and Gentiles and making them one again in Christ...the same faith that would be attributed unto Abraham.....We as well as them are Jews inwardly and heirs according to faith.....even Israel is called the ASSEMBLY (church) of the firstborn in the wilderness.....Jesus also said the law and prophets pointed to him, Abraham told the rich man in hell that the law and prophets were sufficient to point towards the messiah and lead to everlasting life such as what Abraham and Lazarus had found in Christ.....The scriptures that they had were from Holy men of God who had been inspired to write and testify of the coming ONE who would bring redemption, reconciliation and salvation unto men....not sure if this is what you are looking for or even of the point f your question....but hope this suffices!

Brother,

When u read this verse with the other verses that coincide with it in Daniel 2:41 talks about the statue in the dream that Nebuchadnezzar had which this verse talks about the 10 toes, the iron and miry clay which represent the 10 countries of today that rule this world.
Also this verse in 1 Peter 1:10 coincides with Zechariah 6:12: Represent Jesus the BRANCH who shall grow up out of His place and He shall build the temple of the LORD. Many verses to follow on this understanding of this verse.

These verses are speaking of Jesus being the grace that should come unto us. His grace was His death on the cross and that He will destroy all nations and will rule over His people in the earth made new....The stone that struck the feet of the statue is Jesus the rock that was cut out without hands.

The point of my question is this:
Jesus called us the lost sheep of ISRAEL.

The new Covenant is for the HOUSE of ISRAEL.

JEREMIAH 31: 33*"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,"

Paul says: No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart,*by the Spirit,*not by the written code.", & "In him you were also circumcised,*in the putting off of the sinful nature,*not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ."

The prodigal son in a foreign country, was not merely a parable of a son going anywhere on Earth. It describes those God foreknew, returning to him, meaning they were there at one point in time, for those God foreknew, he also predestined.
Jesus said he was sent from above to find that which was lost to take us home again. Meaning "for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world."

Think of it like this, to make it home, one must know where one came from, period. And if our home is above, what must that mean?

Like this: you have Oklahoma above Texas. Say a man was leaving home, he left Oklahoma and he went to a completely different state, he went south to Texas. But while he was in a foreign state, the laws of that place and the actions of others steered him away, and led him into a terrible accident, he forgot where he came from a long the way. But say this man's brother came to Texas to find his lost brother. He told everyone he was from above and the laws of this place didn't apply to him. But they hated him, they could not understand what he was saying because his laws and speech were foreign to them. But he found his brother, and his brother remembered suddenly where he was from, he remembered his daddy's rules and the laws of his state. Well soon all this guy's buddies who led him into all this trouble started to dislike him too. The Lost man started talking like the guy from above in Oklahoma. But the man that found the lost brother, well he went back home, his work was complete and told the lost brother he had to stay, cause there may be others that these crazy guys from below had led away, and he told the brother not to be afraid of all the wild people, while he was here the laws of the foreign country wouldn't apply to him because he would be an ambassador now, and every ambassador is governed by the laws of his own country while in this foreign place, so do not be afraid, he would have diplomatic immunity.
If the man from above had to come below to find that brother that had wondered away, doesn't that mean they are both from the same place? You think both brothers foreknew each other before coming to the wild foreign place?
You see the one wild child was lost, he had forgot the laws of his home or even how to get back to that place.

To be the Lost sheep of Israel, of the heavenly one, well that's just deep. Not all scripture is about earthly things, Isaiah 54 is about the heavenly Jerusalem, but they still call it Zion. The new covenant is for us, but God says its for the house of Israel, but we fail to look at that and remember there's two houses of Israel, one above, one below, they are both called the same thing, and this is why it's important to understand, our citizenship is in heaven.
And that is the house of Israel, and those members have been circumcised in heart, washed clean, all done by the hands of Christ. Such a thing makes a person a member or the heavenly Jerusalem as Paul says: Such a man's praise comes not from men but God.

To be clear, the laws we are free from is the law of the sinful nature, not man's laws. This law still rules everyone's flesh that hasn't come to Christ.

They didn't address NT believers as anything, because they didn't know the meaning of their own prophecies.

They didn't know the meaning of their own prophecies? I don't understand that Elin.
If they didn't know the meaning of what they were saying why does Paul say this: "It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you,*when they spoke of the things that have now been told you"
Paul says it was revealed to them. So I'm not understanding what you are saying.
They were addressing us a Zion and Israel in the old testament, that's the point I was trying to make.
When Isaiah prophesied about Zions future glory, and how all her children would be taught by the lord, he was talking about us.
And see:
Romans 9:25*"As he says in Hosea: "I will call them 'my people' who are not my people; and I will call her 'my loved one' who is not my loved one,"
Elin the reason Paul referenced Hosea and quoted that scripture is because through the revelation of Christ to him, Paul understood the grace to come to us as fulfilling what Hosea prophesied about.
The NT talks about the grace to come to us, but they use so many OT in their quotes showing us what those prophets were talking about when they were talking about the glories that follow.
I will plant*her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called 'Not my loved one.' I will say to those called 'Not my people,' 'You are my people';*and they will say, 'You are my God.' "*
What if he did this to make the riches of his glory*known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory--**even us, whom he also called,*not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?*
*As he says in Hosea: "I will call them 'my people' who are not my people; and I will call her 'my loved one' who is not my loved one,"*
*and, "It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'*
He's quoting old testament scripture all over the place to justify our faith, and when he says they will be called sons of the living God, Elin that sounds like OT grace to me. God bless and thank you for responding. I humbly disagree with you on that though.

Yes, the prophets searched the Scriptures trying to find out their meanings.

We don't know that they understood the full significance of all they spoke regarding the grace that was to come to us in the NT.

They knew the prophecies were for the future people of God--that's us--but their full significance, maybe not so much.

Da 12:2-4
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
KJV

Daniel was told that his prophesy was not for his time.

Evidence that Isaiah did not understand his own prophesy is seen in the fact that reference to the first and second coming of Jesus are sometimes mixed in the same verse and often in the same chapter

I can't remember for sure they( they prophets and believers of the OLD Testemant I can'y remember where...maybe Heb. But it said that the prophets and believers of the old ,sould not be made perfect without us, those to whom the gospel has come. In other words ew are the fulfill ment of there prophesies or rather Jesus is the fulfillment unto the inwelling HS and the sonshipof God chidren. the old was a type and symbol of what should come. They of the Old confess that they were stranger and pilgrims and had no abiding city here and were slain sawed asunder persecuted. Moses determined the suffering o Christ greater rich than the son of Pharoh. Hope this helps

To be clear, the laws we are free from is the law of the sinful nature, not man's laws. This law still rules everyone's flesh that hasn't come to Christ.

If one takes Jesus's comments about the Kingdom coming to earth, that we are in Jesus's rest, the Israel in terms of ancestory is Israel and the 12 tribes of Israel, but the spiritual church is Zion, the purchased kingdom of the Living God, whose law is written on their hearts. It is very true few christians find it difficult to talk about the transformed heart into the image of Christ, but listening to Jesus and his confidence in the apostles he expected his authority to be simply transferred to the apostles. Jesus parables talked about the tenants were going to be replaced with a people who are descended by their hearts and not their genes or where they are born.

If you start to think about this deeper, the ideas of persecution or the apostacy mean less, because His kingdom is eternal, and will never be defeated. That is why the apostles went to their deaths not thinking about the future, because their future was secure with the person that mattered, Jesus. How much do you trust Jesus? That is the key question, a man who never lied.

I would say they were addressing("Christians") as; Those of the Promise/promises, The glorious ones, or those whom would be saved from the world.

Moses was aware that he was to make the tabernacle according to the pattern showed to him. They were talking about the adopted high priesthood...those who do not know what we shall be...but we will be like Him...for we will see Him as He is.

THE ANSWER IS HERE IN THE SCRIPTURES

1 Peter 1:7 .) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 .) Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 .) Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
10 .) Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
11 .) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
12 .) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
13 .) Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 .) As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 .) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 .) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17 .) And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18 .) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 .) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 .) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 .) Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 .) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
23 .) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 .) For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 .) But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Just read and understand............. :)
